29 Films You Need To Watch In 2019

I am officially 29 years old and whilst some people joke and say, “That means I’m a level 29 so I win!” I am sadly not of that mind set.

I’m 29 and have been for over a week now. Before I know it I will be 30 and that terrifies me. I don’t look 29 and I certainly don’t act 29 and due to that I’m even more scared. We’ll save the whole aging thing for another post. 😛

Every year I always try to write a post to coincide with the age I have just become. I usually write facts about myself, things I wish I’d told my younger self, etc. However this time I wanted to write about something I’m somewhat passionate about. Films.

I LOVE films. I always choose watching a film whilst I do blog writing and housework over listening to music. I feel like this is due to years of acting in plays at school and even studying it at university. I love how you can lose yourself somewhat whilst watching a film, whatever genre it may be.

A while ago now I wrote a guest post for Scarlett over at Scarlettssribbles (which you can read here) about films you need to watch and why and I thought it would be cool for me to recommend 29 films you all should watch this year!

I really hope you like this post today. I just wanted to try and do something different and as I love recommending films for people to watch, I thought this would be perfect for some Monday morning reading. 😛

1. Get Carter (1971) Directed by Mike Hodges.

This is another film that my dad introduced me to when I was younger and I’m so grateful! This is the oldest film on this list and is seen as a classic. It’s a British crime film about Jack, a London gangster who has to travel back to his hometown after discovering his brother has died. However, his death doesn’t seem to be accidental and he starts to unveil the truth about his brother, whilst we find out Jack’s past. It’s a great film and I recommend everyone to watch it.

2. Clerks (1994) Directed by Kevin Smith.

This is a film I first watched when I met Dane after he stuck it on for us to watch one evening. I don’t quite know how I got on without Kevin Smith films in my life. This is actually Kevin Smith’s first film (as in major!) which is really nice to know, considering how awesome it is. I’ve worked in retail and hospitality on and off since the age of 14 so when I watched this film I couldn’t relate more to the characters in the film and how pissed off they were at life, as well as at their jobs. One of my favourite quotes from the film is, “This job would be great if it wasn’t for the fucking customers.” Honestly this film was like a holy grail to me at one point in my life when I really hated my last job. It was just such a great film to watch whenever I felt crap after a day at work and needed something to cheer me up. Clerks II is good too in its own way, but Clerks is the one that started it all.

3. Léon: The Professional (1994) Directed by Luc Besson.

I remember watching this film back in 2000 when my dad bought our first DVD player and I fell in love with the film. The style of it, the story, the actors, just everything about it. I know the story is a bit bizarre but that’s what I loved about it the most. I loved the characters especially Mathilda (Natalie Portman) and Norman Stansfield (Gary Oldman). It’s about Leon, a hitman living in New York. He doesn’t have any family, friends, partner, associates, no one. The only person he talks to is the guy who gives him jobs. Mathilda lives a few doors down from him, who finds Leon interesting and different. She lives in a dysfunctional home and one day after something happens, Leon takes her on and looks after her, but due to Mathilda wanting revenge for her brother being killed, Leon’s world soon turns around. I feel like this film did well in the cinema but I hardly see it spoken about. I feel it’s more of a cult classic and it’s most definitely one that everyone needs to watch once!

4. Nil by Mouth (1997) Directed by Gary Oldman.

This is one of my favourite films. It’s dark, set in the UK and directed by one of my favourite actors. OH and it includes loads of my favourite actors too. I mean what’s not to love, eh? This film was Gary Oldman’s first and only film where he’s been credited as both a director and a writer. The film is about Ray and the people who he has in his life, including his family and friends. His wife is pregnant with their second child, his brother in law is a heroin addict and he’s a violent alcoholic and occasional drug user himself. It’s a dark film in all honesty, but it’s raw and real all at the same time. It’s based off of events that happened to Gary Oldman growing up and I honestly love films like this. Watch it, but obviously be prepared for lots of violence, as well as swearing.

5. American Beauty (1999) Directed by Sam Mendes.

I love this film and always have since I watched it as a teenager. It was based off of what was supposed to be a screenplay but alas came to the big screen instead! It’s about a man who isn’t particularly happy with his life, purely because he’s bored and constantly wonders, “What if?” like most of us tend to do. He begins to lust after his daughters best friend, quits his office job and instead decides to work in a fast food restaurant and well, basically turns his life around. The film however starts with him dying and you see how that moment came to be. American Beauty just covers so many topics and it’s worth watching if you love cinema.

6. Love, Honour and Obey (2000) Directed by Dominic Anciano and Ray Burdis.

This is a film my brother introduced both me and my dad to when I was growing up and it’s also one I quickly fell in love with! I really like how all the actors real first names are used for their characters, it’s just something different and it works quite well. The film is about Jonny, a guy who is fed up of his job and wishes for the “gangster lifestyle” his best friend Jude has. However, after Jonny joins the gang things start to turn sour between his gang and another gang. It’s quite relaxed though at the same time and I class it as a comedy. I definitely recommend watching it, if like me you like films based in the UK.

Sexy beast ver1.jpg

7. Sexy Beast (2000) Directed by Jonathan Glazer.

Another Ray Winstone film added to this list! He’s such a fabulous actor and definitely one of my favourites out there. This was a film my dad showed to me as I was growing up. He’d been lent it by someone he knew and watched it on his own, only to tell me to come watch too! It’s about a ex London gangster who has now moved to Spain to live his life to the fullest. He’s happy, with his wife and their friends, until the past comes back to haunt him and it won’t go away. I honestly love Sexy Beast, as there’s just something about it that isn’t like anything else out there.

8. Spirited Away (2001) Directed by Hayao Miyazaki.

Not only is this up there as one of my favourite films, but this was the first Studio Ghibli film I ever watched. From watching Spirited Away it really got me into wanting to watch more anime, especially more by Studio Ghibli. The plot is like Alice in Wonderland where a girl enters a different place/world and needs to find a way back out. It’s such an amazing film for all the family and not only is the story amazing, but so is the art style. If you’ve never watched a Studio Ghibli film but not this one, then I highly recommend that you check this one out.

Amelie poster.jpg

Image taken from Wikipedia

9. Amélie (2001) Directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

Amélie is definitely one of my favourite films and it’s one where for years I’d seen the trailer for it on a video but always wondered what happened at the end of the film! Finally one evening when I was waiting to start college it came on Film4 and I FINALLY got to watch it! I fell in love with the style of the film, as well as the plot and characters. I don’t really know how to explain the film other than Amélie is a girl in her 20’s and although content with her life, she’s missing something from it and seems bored with her mundane everyday life. One evening she discovers something in her flat that has been hidden there for years and is determined to find the owner of the items. It’s a lovely film, with a well known soundtrack. It’s one of those films you can watch with friends with a bowl of popcorn and snacks. 😛

One Hour Photo movie.jpg

Image taken from Wikipedia

10. One Hour Photo (2002) Directed by Mark Romanek.

I wasn’t sure whether to add this to the list as I wondered if it was a popular film or not. I am trying not to mention big films on this list, if you hadn’t already noticed! I remember watching this film late at night years ago when I was in college and fell in love with it. Robin Williams (who plays the main character) is always known for acting in comedy films. This is not a comedy whatsoever and if anything is a dark thriller. His character seems normal on the outside, but deep down he has a dark secret. He’s a stalker. The story really keeps you on the edge of your seat and it’s definitely one to watch.

Secretary (2002).png

Image taken from Wikipedia

11. Secretary (2002) Directed by Steven Shainberg.

I remember when Fifty Shades of Grey came out and this film came to mind! This was the first film I found and watched that was about the relationship between a lawyer and his secretary, which in turn is a dom/sub relationship. The film doesn’t just tackle that, but also things such as mental health, self harm as well as love. It’s actually classed as a romance and comedy film! Whether you love or hate Fifty Shades of Grey I think you’ll definitely like this film.

12. Oldboy (2003) Directed by Park Chan-wook.

I can’t remember how I came to know if this film… I have a feeling my ex actually introduced it to me but at the same time I feel like I watched it on Film4 one evening. I honestly can’t remember. Either way, this is one of my favourite pieces of cinema from South Korea and one I definitely recommend everyone to go and watch! I had to watch this a good couple of times to 100% know what was going on. I feel like it’s really fast paced and if you take your attention away from it for even a short period of time, you’ll have to start again! There has actually been a remake of this film with Josh Brolin as the main character. I watched it and although it was okay, it wasn’t as good as the original. It’s about a man who is captured and locked away in a room for 15 years, he doesn’t know why. He’s one day let out and given 5 days to find out why he was imprisoned and why.

Thirteen2003Poster.jpg

Image taken from Wikipedia

13. Thirteen (2003) Directed by Catherine Hardwicke.

This is a film I wasn’t sure whether to mention on this list or not due to what it’s about, but it’s a film that I watched during my time at college and it really was one I watched time and time again. Thirteen is about a teenage girl who changes to adapt to the new best friend she gains at school and goes from getting good grades at school to being a rebellious teenager who steals, takes drugs, drinks alcohol and has sex underage and is spiralling out of control. This film does include scenes of self-harm and it’s definitely something to be wary of if you wish to watch the film but get triggered by this sort of thing. It’s definitely worth a watch though, but I do warn you again to be wary of the self-harm scenes.

ItsAllGonePeteTong2005Poster.jpg

14. It’s All Gone Pete Tong (2004) Directed by Michael Dowse.

This isn’t the best film in the world, it’s not ever going to be like the Marvel films, or Star Wars but to me it does the job and I love it. It stars Paul Kaye, another one of my favourite actors who plays a DJ who becomes deaf. It’s a mockumentary but due to the fact the film featured real DJ’s throughout, a few people wondered if it was a genuine film or not. I just love how this film is, it’s not real but I guess it can tackle some serious issues about how loud music can affect your hearing. Alongside all this I LOVE the soundtrack for this film! I actually ordered it recently from CEX, but the order was cancelled as they couldn’t find the CD. 😦

Waiting-poster.jpg

Image taken from Wikipedia

15. Waiting… (2005) Directed by Rob McKittrick.

I think this is the first Ryan Reynolds film on this list and it certainly won’t be the last! I remember when I first discovered Ryan Reynolds and I kind of went a bit crazy for his films. This was one of the ones I picked up in HMV back in the day in one of those 2 for £10 deals. I remember taking it home and sticking it on to watch and not only did I love it for him, but I could relate to it so much too at the time of watching it! My first job was in 2004, I was 14 and worked in the kitchen washing up. I witnessed everything with both the kitchen staff as well as the waiters/waitresses and this film just took me straight back to that time! It gave me nostalgic feels and at the time it had probably only been about 4 years since I’d done that job. 😛 Not only that but the film is hilarious.

16. This Is England (2006) Directed by Shane Meadows.

Let’s kick start this post by talking about one of my favourite films. I’m pretty sure most people have watched this by now, but if you haven’t I honestly can’t recommend it enough! There are so many things I love about this film, most of all the cast and the fact it’s a UK film. This Is England is about skinheads in the 80’s and is somewhat based on true events that happened to Shane Meadows the writer/director. There are many racist themes throughout this film and whilst that isn’t what makes the film, what does make it is the character progression throughout with all the characters, especially Shaun and Combo who are clearly both searching for something and are alike due to that. The film went on to become a TV series on Channel 4, which did really well! I actually think I love the TV series more than the film because you get to find out more about the characters, especially LOL and Woody, who are my favourites. Again, if you haven’t seen This Is England I honestly recommend you do and if you like the film, go and watch the TV series too. The TV series is in three parts, This Is England ’86, This Is England ’88 and This Is England ’90.

17. London to Brighton (2006) Directed by Paul Andrew Williams.

This is such a small indie film from the UK and is so old now, even if it just the same age as This Is England! I remember seeing this in WHSmith whilst out with my dad back in 2006/2007 and liked how it sounded so bought it for myself. I have no regrets! It’s about a prostitute who is asked by her pimp to get one of his customers a young girl and although she’s reluctant, does it anyway. Something happens and we see the two running away from what has happened as well as away from her pimp and the customers son. They decided to travel from London to Brighton, hence the name of the film. It sounds horrible but honestly it’s such an amazing film all the same. I’m a huge fan of drama style films, especially if they’re set in the UK and this one had me hooked when I read the back of the DVD in WHSmith all them years ago! I am so glad I bought it.

18. Kidulthood (2006) Directed by Menhaj Huda.

This is a film I’ve added to the list because I feel it deserves a watch at least once! Although this film came out over 10 years ago now and was tackling loads of different issues that were happening at the time, I feel those issues are relevant still to this day, which is why it’s on this list. It tackles loads of different issues such as mental health, suicide, teenage pregnancy, gangs, bullying, underage sex and more! It isn’t too overcrowded though either with all those issues, which I think makes it so great.

Image taken from IMDB

19. Stuart: A Life Backwards (2007) Directed by David Attwood.

This was actually a TV film, but meh it’s being added to this list, because you still need to watch it! 😛 My best friend Gabriella showed me this film years ago when we were in our Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy highs. So when she told me she’d found a film with them both in together, WE HAD TO WATCH IT! I have never felt my heart break so hard over a film and since watching it the first time I’ve watched it a handful of times since and every single time I have cried and felt sad afterwards. It’s based on a true story of when these two men met up, Stuart being a homeless man with a heroin addiction, the other who decides to write about the Stuart’s life, but backwards. You find out about how Stuart came to be where he was when they met and it’s incredibly depressing to find out what happened to Stuart, but the fact it is all true really breaks your heart. Tom Hardy plays the role of Stuart so damn well! He’s such an amazing actor and this film truly does show that.

20. Fish Tank (2009) Directed by Andrea Arnold.

I was in two minds whether to add this to this list as after a couple of watches it kind of makes me cringe in places. It’s a great film and I’ll always recommend people watch it once but after that you’ll live. It’s about Mia a rebellious teenager with a love and passion for dancing. She lives with her single mother and younger sister, who both often get on her nerves. One day Mia discovers her mother has a new boyfriend and Mia’s life sort of gets more interesting. I discovered this film because Michael Fassbender is in it, who at one point was an actor I was really into so I searched for loads of British films he was in, this included. Again, watch it once at least! I doubt very much so you’ll need to watch it again. 😛

Precious2009poster.jpg

Image taken from Wikipedia

21. Precious (2009) Directed by Lee Daniels.

This film is based off a novel of the same name and it is by far one of my favourite films. I remember it came out in whilst I was studying at university and I wanted to go and watch it in the cinema, but I had no one who wanted to go. So, I was naughty and watched it illegally online instead! Not long after I had to buy it on DVD as I NEEDED to watch this film properly and in decent quality. I remember watching it three times the day it arrived, and I fell in love. It’s such a strong and powerful film that requires tissues. It’s set in the 80’s and is about Precious, a young girl who has dealt with a life time of abuse and poverty. One of the last scenes of this films really sends shivers down my spine due to how powerful it is. It’s also incredibly depressing but it’s got a positive vibe at the end.

The Unloved Cover.jpg

Image taken from Wikipedia

22. The Unloved (2009) Directed by Samantha Morton.

Although this is a TV film, it’s one of my favourites. I remember the hype coming up towards it’s release and I fell in love with it. It’s a drama based in the UK about children in the care system and he dark side of it. A girl is taken away from her father due to his violence towards her, but it turns out being in care doesn’t mean escaping anything bad. You see the inside of care, with teenagers abusing alcohol and drugs, as well as being sexually abused by care workers. It’s a harsh reality check about the care system, which is done from the prospective of the main character. You definitely need to watch this if you haven’t as it really opens your eyes!

Buried Poster.jpg

Image taken from Wikipedia

23. Buried (2010) Directed by Rodrigo Cortés.

Another Ryan Reynolds one and one I really love, it’s one of my favourites that he’s in. I actually went to the cinema to watch this and I’m so glad I did as it really did add to the tension that the film constantly has. It’s about an American truck driver who has been kidnapped, put into a wooden box and buried under the ground. Whilst watching the film you’re pretty much stuck in this box with him, all the while on the edge of your seat wondering what’s going to happen. The only time he talks to anyone else is via a mobile phone. If you want something that will keep you on the edge and tense, give this a go.

Submarine poster.jpg

Image taken from Wikipedia

24. Submarine (2010) Directed by Richard Ayoade.

This is by far one of my favourite films! I remember one of my old friends lent it me to watch as not only did she think I would love the film due to the plot, but also because of directed it. Richard Ayoade is one of my favourite people, he’s hilarious and such a legend! He did Submarine so well and it’s truly a little masterpiece in it’s own right. The thing I love about this film the most is how it got me through some dark places when I was kind of in a limbo between late 2011 to when I met Dane in 2013. It really helped and kept my spirits up.

Sightseers film poster.jpg

Image taken from Wikipedia

25. Sightseers (2012) Directed by Ben Wheatley.

This film is so bizarre that you have to watch it for that alone! It’s set in the Midlands and is about a couple from Birmingham who haven’t long been together and decide to go on a driving trip in his motor home. Their cute and lovey dovey (yet cringe worthy and awkward) trip soon goes to a dark place and it doesn’t take long for the action of one to rub off onto the other. This film is a comedy thriller and you are constantly unsure of what is going to happen next and that is what I love about it the most. I especially love the thick as shit sounding Brummy accents, especially as I’m from Birmingham myself. I’d got more into the plot, but I don’t want to spoil anything so just go and watch it 😛

A boy standing next to a girl, who is leaning her head on the shoulder of a second boy, in front of a lime green wall and below the words "we are infinite".

26. The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) Directed by Stephen Chbosky.

This is another film that helped me get through some dark places between the same time that Submarine did. May I also just say, the book is amazing that the book is inspired by and in fact the director wrote the book so you know. 😛 The Perks of Being a Wallflower can be a pretty depressing film. It yo-yos as the film goes on from being good, to bad, to sad, to good again. It’s a great coming of age film though and if you loved the book but haven’t watched the film yet, then you really should!

The Voices film poster.png

Image taken from Wikipedia

27. The Voices (2014) Directed by Marjane Satrapi.

Again, another Ryan Reynolds film and another film of his I love! His performance in this for a start is amazing and you can’t fault it at all! It’s a dark comedy/horror about a man with schizophrenia but refuses to take his medication, as he enjoys the hallucinations that follow. He lives with his dog and cat, who both talk to him (obviously effects of not taking his medication) who act like the angel and devil on your shoulders. Some bad things happen and Ryan Reynolds character needs to decide what is best to do. It’s such a funny but yet fucked up film, but I still love it! I’m actually tempted to buy it on DVD soon, as I really fancy watching it now. 😛

Your Name poster.png

Image taken from Wikipedia

28. Your Name. (2016) Directed by Makoto Shinkai.

Your Name. did so well when it came out in some selected cinemas throughout the UK, but it took the world by storm to be honest with you. Everyone was hyped for it and I feel like even people who weren’t massive anime fans before, soon became them after this film came out. It’s about two teenagers, one from the busy city of Tokyo and the other from the quieter countryside of Japan. They one day wake up to be in each others bodies and this happens for a while and eventually they do something about it. They keep diaries of each others days and give each other tips on what they should do, etc. One day though they wake up and the other person has disappeared. The story doesn’t end there however and goes into more than we thought it would! This is such a beautifully told love story, whilst looking gorgeous at the same time. Me and Dane went to watch this in the cinema and we had an amazing evening. Alongside this and A Silent Voice it really did inspire us to go and watch more anime films in the cinema. Your Name. will also always remind me of my 28th birthday when I was poorly and me and Dane got Japanese takeaway and cuddled up together watching this film.

A Silent Voice Film Poster.jpg

Image taken from Wikipedia

29. A Silent Voice (2016) Directed by Naoko Yamada.

Finally, if there is one anime film I knew I had to mention in this list, I KNEW this had to be in here somewhere! I remember hearing about this film randomly online after being recommended to buy the manga series of the same name. I looked into it and saw that they stated that it was being made into a film. Not long after I found that this bit of information out, I also found out it had one showing for it in town and I decided to go with Dane. It is such a depressing story but a somewhat realistic and hard hitting one. It’s about Shōya a cocky young boy who just wants to play with his friends and enjoy being a kid. One day a new girl joins his class at school, Shōko who also happens to be deaf. During her time at the school the two clash and Shōya’s attitude towards her comes off as bullying behaviour, due to this Shōko ends up leaving the school and Shōya is outcast from the rest of the kids in his class, including his best friends. He grows depressed as the years go on as he is constantly reminded what he did to Shōko. Years later during high school we see Shōya discovers where Shōko goes for school, can he apologise for what he did all those years before? I was actually gutted that Your Name won an award over A Silent Voice at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, as whilst I LOVED Your Name too, A Silent Voice just had a much stronger message. Either way this film is one you need to watch. It has such an emotional story which ends positively.

So those are ALL 29 FILMS! This has actually taken me a few days to write due to the fact it was hard to think of 29 films I wanted to share with you guys, write about them and have a somewhat relaxed and yet busy weekend. 😛

I really hope you guys loved all the films I mentioned and maybe you’ve seen some of them already? If so, which one(s) have you watched? Did you love them, or hate them? Make sure to let me know in the comments down below! 😀

Of course let me know which films you think I NEED to watch too! I’m always happy to check out new films.

Until next time however, I hope you’re all well and had a lovely weekend!

The Opposites Book Tag

Jt GIF

Image taken from giphy.com

I don’t feel like I’ve done and taken part in a blog tag for a while now (not going to lie, it was probably just last month… :P) so when I came across The Opposites Book Tag on Eleanor’s blog a month ago I knew I’d do it at some point.

Fast forward a month later and here we are! She tagged anyone who read her post, which I’m linking here because you need to read her answers!

I’m changing my answers up a little though and instead of talking about “normal” books, I’ll be talking about manga instead… Considering manga is the majority of what I read. 😛

I hope you enjoy this tag post!

FIRST BOOK IN YOUR COLLECTION/LAST BOOK YOU BOUGHT.

The first manga I ever bought was Azumanga Daioh and it’s one of my biggest manga books in my collection… So far anyway. 😛 I loved the anime of the same name so when I heard about a manga of it too, I knew I had to find it! It took me ages and when I finally found it online I ordered it to be told a month later that it wasn’t actually in stock as they’d said. I got a refund and headed elsewhere in search of it. I found it on eBay in the end brand new and ended up buying it for less money than I was intending to pay for it in the first place.

My most recent purchase is Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: Kanna’s Daily Life Vol. 2. I LOVE this spin off series even more than the original due to how adorable it is and yet how hilarious it is at other times. I’ll soon be buying some new manga… I feel like I buy it monthly in all honesty. 😛

A CHEAP BOOK/AN EXPENSIVE BOOK.

This stands for both of the same series but I’ve spent an absolute fortune on the Nana manga in the past! It’s not really published anymore I don’t think so it can be such a hard manga to get hold of! It’s so worth it though as I think the Nana manga will be worth some serious monies in the future due to it being on a hiatus. ANYWAY I’ve spent next to sod all on many copies of this manga and other times I’ve paid through the teeth just to get a decent copy or even a brand new one.

Aside from Nana the most I have spent on manga for myself is £15.99, which I spent on the manga of Wolf Children. I regret spending that much on it, but 1. it’s hardback and 2. I picked it up in Waterstones… Of course it was expensive! 😛

A BOOK WITH A MALE PROTAGONIST/ONE WITH A FEMALE PROTAGONIST.

First of all, male protagonist! The first one that pops into my head is Hideo Suzuki from the manga, I Am a Hero. This manga is amazing and it’s thanks to Dane discovering it in Forbidden Planet that we started reading it together. He’s such a fanny at the best of times, but this is due to what appears to be a form of anxiety. He’s our hero during a zombie apocalypse in Japan and he’s such a great and real protagonist for that story. I cannot wait to see where the series goes and what the future has in store for him.

So a female protagonist eh? Oh man I could pick so many manga series with a legend of a female protagonist but I think the first one I can think of is Nana Osaki, from the manga of the same name. She’s the Nana who is a singer in a rock band and doesn’t stand for shit! Although she’s rock hard on the outside and appears untouchable, she actually has a heart of gold and is mending a broken heart throughout most of the manga. I remember when watching the anime, as well as reading the manga what a strong and bold woman she is, even though she isn’t real. I wanted to be like her as I got older and I like to think I am. 😛

A BOOK YOU READ FAST/ONE THAT TOOK YOU LONG TO READ.

If there is a series I found myself whizzing through and finishing quicker than any manga series I own to date, it’s A Silent Voice. I remember hearing about the manga thanks to the anime that came out as a film last year. I picked up a couple of volumes to read to see if I would enjoy it and I instantly fell in love. Even before me and Dane went to watch the anime I went into my local manga/comic book store and bought some more volumes! Later I bought the rest on Amazon PRIME so I could read them as soon as possible. To this day it is now one of my favourite manga series and I recommend it highly to anyone who wants to get into manga and see why it’s so amazing.

Fuck me, if there is one manga series that is taking me forever to get through, it’s definitely K-ON! and I honestly couldn’t tell you why. I think it’s because I enjoy reading it so much that I take my time to read it. I’m on my second to last volume now and I’ll be sad when I’ve finished the K-ON! series. This just means I need to find a NEW SERIES to get into. 😛

PRETTY COVER/UGLY COVER.

I don’t think I really own any pretty manga covers… If anything I love Nana for the story each volume tells about the two Nana’s and the same can go for A Silent Voice which shows off the two main characters together. I also really love A Polar Bear In Love for the adorable covers that their volumes produce! I cannot wait for Volume 3 to come out now as the cover for that looks amazing.

I can’t say I own any ugly covers though… If there are some manga covers I dislike it’s Dane’s Berserk series, as well as some of the Junji Ito covers which aren’t ugly, just very creepy. 😛

A NATIONAL BOOK/AN INTERNATIONAL BOOK.

HA they’re all pretty international when you think about it! 😛

No I joke. All my manga books are in English! Although once I nearly ordered Elfen Lied on Amazon, only to discover they were all in German. I dodged a very heavy and expensive burden there. 😛

A THIN BOOK/A THICK BOOK.

I don’t really own any thin manga… Some of my thicker books are Wolf Children and Azumanga Daioh.

FICTION BOOK/NON-FICTION BOOK.

They’re all fiction really.

VERY (WAY TOO) ROMANTIC BOOK/ACTION BOOK.

Oh man, the majority of my manga is romance related as that’s just what I’m into. I have read action style manga though before, don’t get me wrong! Those are usually ones that Dane has bought and told me to check out. I do like a bit of action in manga, but I’m a total romance girl. 😛

A BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY/ONE THAT MADE YOU SAD.

There are so many manga series that make me happy! K-ON!, Azumanga Daioh, Nichijou, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid and more, but if there is one that really cheers me up to read lately, it’s A Polar Bear In Love.

A Polar Bear In Love is about a polar bear who is in love with a baby seal. The story is about them exploring where they live together and learning more each day about one another, as well as about things around them. I remember reading volume 1 and wondering what the hell was happening, but it’s such a cute story and the artwork is also adorable. Give it a read if you love cute and yet weird manga. 😛

I feel like I’ve spoken about it so much on this post, but both Nana and A Silent Voice broke my heart. Nana is for many reasons, with the biggest of course being the story but also because it isn’t finished! The writer/artist of Nana has health issues and due to that she had to hiatus Nana. I need to know what happens and how it finishes for all the characters. 😦

A Silent Voice is just depressing for many different reasons and what makes it even more depressing? It’s so realistic that I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of stuff that happens in the manga, doesn’t happen on a daily basis to both children and teenagers. It’s about a deaf girl who is bullied by her classmate. She leaves due to the bullying, which results in the classmate being bullied himself for many years after. He learns sign language and goes to meet her to apologise before he attempts suicide… Which doesn’t happen thankfully! That’s all I’m saying! 😛 It has a lovely ending to it however and in itself, that makes me happy.

So those are the answers to the The Opposites Book Tag! I hope my answers aren’t boring due to me changing them to adapt to manga, but as I said before… I don’t read anything else other than manga these days…

Like Eleanor did, anyone who reads this tag post, I CHOOSE YOU TO TAKE PART TOO! 😀

Will you be giving the tag a go? If so let me know in the comments!

Until next time, take care all and I hope you’re ready for the weekend.

2017 Favourites!

This post is way behind schedule and as I mentioned in my recent post, I am sorry about that but my health comes first and sadly a week later I am STILL poorly! Not as poorly as I was beforehand, thankfully but still poorly all the same. Me and Dane have a feeling I’ve got the Aussie flu that’s been going around the UK at the moment, either way I hope it passes by the end of the week when I’m back at work!

Finally I am getting around to sitting at my desk and writing this post, which is way overdue now but whatever, better late than never, eh?

I’m going to list my top 5 favourite things from all sorts of things including beauty, fashion and lifestyle because that’s the 3 topics I always focus on on There Might Be Coffee.

Again, I do apologise for how long this post has taken for me to write and publish, but here it finally is, my 2017 favourites!

Beauty

  • L’Oreal Paris Hydra Genius in Normal to Combination Skin (review here).

This is definitely my number one item of 2017 and was also my favourite discovery too! This was a product L’Oreal released last year and after hearing nothing but good things about it, I decided to pick it up when it was on offer. I only recently finished my first bottle and have already repurchased another. This is my go to moisturiser and one I recommend everyone to try, especially during the warmer months and for holidays abroad.

  • Rimmel Insta Fix & Matte Powder.

This is another release this year and one I’d heard positive reviews about so picked it up. Initially I didn’t think much on it, but hoped it would grow on me… It never did and I was really disappointed to be honest. I tried another face powder after this and it was only then I realised that the Rimmel powder was actually amazing and I ended up stopping use of the new powder and picked up another one of these. I really need to review it, but at the same time it doesn’t really need a review. It’s not the best matte powder in the world (Korean ones are! :P) but it really does the job for my oily t-zone and it doesn’t break the bank to buy either.

  • L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream.

I’ve mentioned this hand cream time and time again over the years and I know for a fact I mentioned it plenty of times on here. That itself goes to show how much I love this product. It’s definitely the best hand cream I own and I’ll always go back to it no matter what! Since moving to my new job the state of the eczema on my hands has improved dramatically and it’s purely due to applying hand cream whenever my hands have been washed/wet. I don’t ALWAYS apply this hand cream but it’s often what I reach for. It’s also what I keep in my handbag all the time as it’s great to use if my hands are suffering a little in the colder weather. It really picks my skin back up and if you suffer from eczema like I do, then I recommend trying this! It’s not cheap, but it works wonders.

  • Carmex Cherry Lip Balm.

Again, another beauty product I have spoken about highly since I bought it in September. It was my holy grail whilst I was in Fuerteventura as well as during the day at work whilst sitting at my desk. There’s loads of things I love about using Carmex over other lip balm brands including the cherry flavour, the tingling feeling it gives my lips as well as how thick the product is. Of course the moisture it gives to my lips is always good too! 😛 I recently picked up the Christmas limited edition sugar plum flavour too, which is amazing.

  • Body Fantasies Signature Body Sprays in Cotton Candy and Vanilla.

I picked these up before I went to Fuerteventura as I planned to take the Cotton Candy with me to use in the evenings, but I never bothered and as soon as I got back home I was using them almost daily and still do! These smell gorgeous and I already know they’ll be a regular purchase throughout 2018. They’re great to spritz all over your body before getting changed, as well as spritzing all over you instead of using perfume. I always get compliments on these and they’re a really good price too and come in loads of different scents. I definitely recommend giving them a go if you fancy trying a new brand of body sprays.

Fashion

  • Standard Fox Sweatshirt.

Standard is a clothing brand in Fuerteventura and it’s always a store I visit whenever I’m on the island. Me and Dane both went in when we were there in September/October and Dane picked up a Stormtrooper t-shirt and I picked up this sweatshirt. It’s one of the most comfortable ones I own and it compliments so many outfits, oh and it’s also VERY warm! I wore it on our last day in Fuerteventura when we were coming home and let me tell you, wearing a sweatshirt and jeans for 7 hours in a hot airport is NOT GOOD. 😛 I wear this with jeans as well as my denim shorts and tights. When we had snow I LIVED in this as it kept me lovely and snug, without being too cold or even too warm.

  • Ohayou Clothing Umbreon Varsity Jacket.

This is my go to jacket whenever I’m not at work basically, as I don’t think an Umbreon jacket would go down all that well, do you? 😛 I live in this though whenever I’m not at work, as as well as my Eevee version too. I bought this in October and since then have worn it loads! I really want to get more of Ohayou’s varsity jackets as they also have a Vaporeon and Sylveon versions I would love to have.

  • Primark Knitted Dress.

This is a dress I forgot I owned until before Christmas. I still have some bits and pieces of  mine left at my mom’s house which I need to go through and decide whether to keep or sell. I went to have a look for some potential work pieces and found this dress there. The last 2 times I’d worn it were both at funerals, my cousins and my grans so I decided to stop wearing it as I felt it was “tainted” with negative vibes. However since bringing it home I’ve worn it loads for work and it’s so comfortable and flattering on my figure. I don’t see it as being tainted anymore, but more of a dress I decided to wear to celebrate both my cousin and my grans lives.

  • Marks & Spencer Red Star Shirt.

I bought this dress not long before I went to Fuerteventura and even took it over there with me, although I didn’t wear it once! I love wearing this shirt for work, as well as for personal use. The first time I wore it was for a meal out with Dane and his parents. I teamed it with my denim shorts and tights and I felt so adorable! Now I’ll team it up with a black skater shirt and smart work trousers.

  • YURI!!! On Ice Cardigan.

Not going to lie, my new job was such an excuse for me to buy this cardigan… 😛 I wanted it for ages but at the time it was so expensive at £41.99 but when it went down to £24.99 I snatched it up, as did my best friend Gabriella (HEYYY! :D) so we’re cardigan besties. 😛 This is the most comfortable cardigan I own though and I wore it to death the first week I owned it! I still wear it loads as it’s got really long sleeves and isn’t too thick so isn’t too warm to wear in the office. I wear it with any outfit it’ll work with pretty much.

Lifestyle

  • Persona 5 on PlayStation 4.

This has to be the number one favourite thing of mine from 2017 and thankfully just before the end of the year I FINALLY FINISHED IT and guess what? I’m currently replaying it! Who would have guessed then, eh? This was definitely the game of the year for me and for anyone who knows me, they know how obsessed I have grown for this game and how much more I want from it. Since buying and playing Persona 5, I have since bought and downloaded Persona 4: Golden as well as Persona 4: Dancing All Night. I equally can’t wait for Persona 3: Dancing Moon Night and especially for Persona 5: Dancing Star Night. I really want to review Persona 5 at some point but I’m crap at writing game reviews, I just want to write over and over how much I love it and that’s it. 😛

  • Kimi No Na Wa/Your Name Anime.

This film had to be the most popular anime film that came out in 2017 and it is clear why. It was a gorgeous film both visually as well as the story line and as soon as me and Dane got the chance to go and watch it, we took it with both hands. I loved the film so much so when Dane’s parents bought me it on Blu-ray I was thrilled! For my birthday a couple of days ago we got some takeaway Japanese food and popped this on the TV to watch. I forgot how much I loved it and this time we watched it in subbed, we watched dubbed at the cinema. I much prefer it in dubbed. 😛 If you haven’t watched this film but love anime, GET ON IT!

  • South Park: The Fractured But Whole on PlayStation 4.

Although I was super excited for this game Persona 5 was the one that stole my heart in 2017. However, this game really holds a place in my heart for various different reasons. I love South Park and have done since it came out in the UK back in the 90’s. It was on Comedy Central as well as on Channel 4 late at night and it was my mom who introduced me to the show. Me and my cousins would stay up late to watch them together and if we never managed to, my aunt would record them for us to watch over the weekend. It was amazing! So when they announced a second game I was super excited! I grew pissed off though at the constant push backs of the release but eventually it stuck and before I knew it it was in my hands and then in my console being played. I finished it not long before Christmas and oh man, what a game! It was definitely different from The Stick Of Truth and I actually think I preferred it due to the story. I’m not saying anything but I wasn’t expecting what happened. This is another game I would love to review, but I’d be dire at it. 😛

  • American Horror Story TV Series.

Me and Dane started watching this in 2017 and oh man I love it so much, even though we’re very slow on continuing with it at the moment. Series 1 is by far my favourite one to date and the show is just so good. It pulls you in and yet keeps you on the edge of your seat all the same. The acting in it is incredible, especially by Evan Peters who I have fallen in love with thanks to the show, as well as his role of Tate. I can’t wait to continue watching the TV series in 2018.

  • A Silent Voice Manga.

This was by far one of my favourite manga to read this year, as well as one of my favourite anime movies alongside Kimi No Na Wa/Your Name. The manga just shouted out more to me and I found I enjoyed it that little more as you get more about the story from it, as well as learn more about the characters after the film ends. If you loved the anime, I recommend you go and read the manga as it’s so good!

So those are all my picks for my 2017 favourites! I could have picked so many more things, but I thought keeping it to a top 5 was for the best. 😛

What were your favourite things throughout 2017? Make sure to let me know in the comments down below!

Until next time, take care all and I hope you had a lovely weekend.

What I Got For Christmas!

Christmas is nearly over and bloody hell it went by fast! I can’t believe we’ve had the three magical days fly by us and leave a coating of snow behind.

I hope all of my readers and blogger friends had an amazing Christmas and (although it isn’t important) I hope everyone got what they wanted for Christmas! I know I did and more!

So, (as pretty much most bloggers do now!) I thought I would write about what lovely gifts I got from Dane, my family and friends this Christmas.

I want to disclose here that this is by any means me showing off what I got this year and I never feel like when I read fellow bloggers posts, or watch YouTube videos about it that people are meaning to show off. I love reading and seeing what my fellow bloggers received (as I’m a nosey bitch! :P) as it’s nice to see goodies they’ve wished for throughout the year as well as special meaning behind them! If you feel this is me showing off, click off of this post now because, ain’t nobody got time for that!

NOW! On with the post!

When writing this post I haven’t actually received all my gifts and one of my best friends still hasn’t been able to give me hers, but I’ll be seeing her around my birthday so I can definitely mention it then!

The first gift I want to talk about is the gorgeous little Sylveon print that Sarah over at Raiin Monkey sent me in the post! I wasn’t expecting it and it’s so sweet of her! I’m going to pop it up in the office somewhere so I can look at it whilst doing blog work. 🙂

My friend Jacqui was able give me hers from both her and her boyfriend Chris and it was such a thoughtful and beautiful gift! It may not look like much to many, but we’ve had quite a few cocktail evenings together and my cocktail shaker isn’t the best. It gets stuck and then you struggle to get the lid off. So they bought us this Smirnoff kit, with a gorgeous red and silver shaker in (it matches our kitchen!) as well as a glass and measure cup in! I couldn’t be any happier with it to be honest.

My friend Sophi sent me a little box of goodies and I love them all so much! She sent us some little Japanese sweeties (which sadly we ate before I took my pictures! :P), a Pusheen tote bag and some Pusheen socks, as well as a pair of fox socks. I can’t complain at getting socks and I’ll be wearing them to work to keep my feet toasty over the rest of the winter months! OH and she also put in a cute little Pusheen keychain too, which I’ll pop on my tote bag!

Speaking of Pusheen! Dane’s brother and his girlfriend bought me a gorgeous boxed Pusheen mug with socks! I love it so much and am currently drinking some lemon green tea from it. The socks that came with it are so adorable and have paw prints on the feet. As well as that they also gave me a cute Minnie Mouse face mask as well as a Winky Lux flower balm in green. When you apply it to your lips it works with the PH and turns into a gorgeous light pink! I can’t wait to use this and I’ve wanted one of these since they first came out!

My aunt and cousin both bought me and Dane this gorgeous dachshund pillow which I’m going to have for the chair in the office! As well as that they also picked me up a gold fox keyring which was popped into my Christmas card.

Dane’s gran bought me a little something for Christmas and that’s a Bailey’s gift set with a little glass and some Lindt Lindor chocolates, which I LOVE! This will be enjoyed New Years Eve or on my birthday for definite! 😀

My sister in law and  my nephews bought me a cute little lip butter set, and it’s so strange! They’re lovely and you get three flavours, coconut, cherry and peppermint.. I’ve never used a lip butter like this before but I’ll definitely be keeping these for work and around the house!

Dane’s parents bought me some lovely gifts and one that really did make me chuckle! The first gift I noticed they’d bought me and one they get me every year is a Lush Christmas gift set! This year they bought me The Snowman gift set. This one contains The Snowman bubbleroon, Butterbear bath bomb, Man In The Moon bubble bar and Snow Angel bath melt. I’m super excited to try Man In The Moon!

They picked me up three hot chocolates on sticks! I LOVE these and they actually bought these from one of our friends coffee stalls in Coventry! These are so amazing and work really well! They bought me a normal one, a mocca one and a peppermint one! I can’t wait to try the peppermint flavour and I’ll definitely make it in my new Pusheen mug. 😛

One of my favourite presents from Dane’s parents has to be the Your Name Blu-ray that they bought me! This isn’t just the ordinary Blu-ray either, but actually a collector’s edition so it comes with both Blu-ray, DVD and also a CD of the films soundtrack! It’s such a beautiful film and was one of my favourites I’d been to see in the cinema last year. I definitely recommend watching it if you get the chance, or if you have Amazon Prime as it’s on there to watch in both subbed and dubbed right now!

Finally the present that made me chuckle is this little pom pom… That is actually a panic alarm! You pull the keychain and it makes a very loud noise! I doubt I’ll pop this onto my handbag but I’ll definitely keep it inside of my bag for emergencies! You never know to be fair. I get why she picked this up for me though to be honest! In my old job I would get to the car park at 5.30am, I would be the only one, it was dark and at one point we had issues with people hiding in the dark on the level of the car park I was on. It did frighten me! So this gift whilst being strange, as very thoughtful all the same.

Now onto the gifts that Dane bought me, I’m going to save the present my mom bought me until last. Usually I would save Dane’s until then, but wait until you see what she bought for me!

Since moving into our house we have a tradition now of making stockings up for each other, which consist of cute little bits and pieces, as well as Japanese sweets! This was no acceptation this year and we both gifted each other Japanese gifts!

He picked me up an assortment of Japanese treats, which includes some Puccho sweets in ramune flavour (Japanese soda), some sour candy sweets which are also ramune flavoured, some Pokemon grape gummy sweeties and some green matcha flavoured Kit Kats which are MY FAVOURITE! Finally he bought me a Gudetama DIY kit where you get to make a pudding version of Gudetama to eat! I cannot wait to do this and I think I’ll be saving it for my birthday. ^_^

Also in my stocking I had a few other bits and pieces such as a new refill for my Filofax and what a cutie he is, he bought me on in pink! I need to use my Filofax more this year!

Also in my stocking and presents overall was a couple of little Pokemon goodies, all of them are so cute! The first thing I opened was this Eevee pouch type bag, which is an official Pokemon Center item! I don’t know quite yet what I’ll use this for, but I can see it being for feminine products once a month and maybe some random handbag bits and pieces. This was a gift he’d asked me if I liked the look of when we were both having a nose online for gifts for one another. I wasn’t all that fussed at the time but all the same when I opened it Christmas Day I still loved it! It’s a little Eevee which you’re meant to rest over a glass, but I can see me sticking it to the PC monitor or even by the side of my bed. Another Pokemon gift he bought me was this blind box (although he knew which one he’d ordered) which contain desk buddies. Dane bought me this Pikachu one which holds your mobile phone for you. He bought me this to have for work but I want to have it for by my bed! It’s so cute and such a thoughtful gift all the same.

One of my favourite gifts from Dane just has to be this onigiri squishy keyring from Tofu Cute! I get anxious during long car journeys, as well as in other certain situations! This not only feels relaxing to squish over and over, but it’s also scented with (what I think anyway) strawberries! On the way to and from Coventry for Christmas Day I was squishing away at this, as well as whilst at Dane’s parents on the day! It’s going to end up living in my handbag for when I feel anxious or angry and need to relieve some tension.

One of the presents I had asked for for Christmas after discovering its existence are these Haku chopsticks. Haku is the dragon from Spirited Away and is my favourite Studio Ghibli character! I didn’t know if these chopsticks would be real or fake, but when I inspected the packet they are in fact real and Studio Ghibli approved!

The first main gift that I opened was this, The Manga Cookbook, which also came with a pack of chopsticks! I love cooking Japanese food, especially if I’m craving Japanese and I can’t and don’t want to go out and eat or buy any. This is a cute little gift and I can’t wait for me and Dane to cook recipes together from it.

The next gifts are these two little Pokemon Center plushies, which are like Beanie Babies! I’ve been collecting these for a few years now, thanks to Dane but they’re now so hard to get hold of! I found someone in the UK selling these 2 for a decent price and I didn’t know if Dane wou;d pick them up or not… Alas he did and they’re so adorable! We have a Flareon and a Raichu here and they’ll go so well with my other Eeveelutions, as well as with my Pikachu!

If you got back and take a look at the Christmas wish list I made on Christmas Eve (which you can read here) you’ll see that I wished for a lot of anime shows/films on Blu-ray and apart from one, all of the ones I asked for I got! Two of those being A Silent Voice and Your Lie In April part 2. Alongside Your Name, A Silent Voice was one of my favourite films from 2017 and I’m so stocked to have it on Blu-ray! The box itself is gorgeous and I cannot wait to binge watch it with Dane one of the evenings this week. This is the collector’s edition Blu-ray too, which also includes a DVD and a special booklet that tells you all about the film, as well as about the manga.

The second Blu-ray Dane bought for me is part 2 of Your Lie In April, which is the final part of the special collector’s edition! He bought me part 1 and the special box at the start of the year for my birthday, so now I’m so happy to finally have the box set completed! This is definitely the first thing I’ll be watching with Dane out of all of the Blu-rays I received as I want to binge watch all of this with him! I haven’t continued to watch anymore of it until I had all of the box set for us to binge watch!

Aside from my main presents this was probably one of my favourites to be honest! It’s The Art Of Persona 5 and I have been lusting after this book since they announced it way back in the summer! I’m so pleased Dane bought it for me to be honest as on Christmas Day after I opened it I had a good flick through the whole thing and I cannot wait to sit down with a cup of coffee and read the whole thing, cover to cover. This year I discovered Persona 5, as well as the Persona franchise! I haven’t fallen in love with a franchise this hard since Pokemon and I am so chuffed that back when it came out at the start of the year that I bought it.

Finally we have the main gifts from Dane and my favourites! These are the 2 Nendoroid’s that Dane bought for me this Christmas and I was so surprised to be honest with you! I mentioned on my Christmas wish list that I had a feeling Dane would have bought me Yuri but when I opened Viktor and THEN Yuri I was so happy! I couldn’t have asked for better Nendoroid’s to have received this Christmas and I feel like such a lucky girl. We have no room right now to put these up anywhere so sadly they’ll be staying in the boxes until we have room. But I love my 2 YURI!!! boys so much and I cannot wait to play with them and display them in the future! So many YURI!!! On Ice Nendoroid’s have been announced lately that we will definitely be getting in the future!

Dane really spoilt me this year and I am so grateful for everything I received! I know I have another present arriving that he ordered me, it’s nothing special but it’s the thought that counts! FYI it’s a Macaroon Treats Yankee Candle!

Now onto my final present and definitely the one that blew me away the most. I was so surprised when I opened it to discover my mom had bought me a Dyson hairdryer! I know these aren’t cheap to be honest and I’ve lusted after one since they were announced, so the fact that my mom bought me one makes me feel so loved and special. I still can’t believe she bought it for me and after trying it, I really do adore it. I wish she could read how thankful and grateful I am.

So those were all the goodies I got for Christmas and I am so, SO thankful to everyone who bought myself, as well as Dane gifts this year!

What did you get for Christmas? Big or small I would love to hear what you got from loved ones. You know where to tell me. 😉

Until next time, take care all and I hope you’re all resting after loads of Christmas and Boxing Day dinners!

Christmas Wish List To Father Christmas – Now & Then

This is the post I mentioned at the start of the month that I was looking forward to doing! I decided that for this year I wouldn’t just do my normal Christmas wish list at the start of December and decided that I would do it on Christmas Eve as a sort of, “Father Christmas I’ve been good please bring me this and that and that!”

But I then changed my mind and had an even better idea! I decided as well as doing my Christmas wish list for this year, I would do one as I would have when I was 7 years old! The nostalgic feels will be all over the start of this post and I really hope you guys enjoy reading it, as much as I had putting it all together!

  • Happy Monday Store INU INU T-Shirt – £15.23 (link)

I discovered this brand through a girl on Instagram who is all Japanese themed. Basically into the shizzle I’m into! She got sent this t-shirt and I fell in love with it! It’s got a cute little shiba on it, but he’s getting his face squished and pulled and AHH SO DAMN CUTE! I’m really hoping that Dane has bought me this for Christmas, otherwise I’ll be ordering it after my birthday. 😛

  • Firebox My Neighbour Slippers – £29.99 (link)

I’m always down with anything that will help me feel all warm and snuggly in my own home! I live for putting my pajamas and slippers on as soon as I get home from work, and who can go wrong with wearing Totoro slippers?! These look so amazing and they’re not cheap, no but come on… They’re Studio Ghibli, they aren’t going to be! 😛

  • Good Smile Company Nendoroid Yuri!!! On Ice Yuri Katsuki – £44.95 (link)

I didn’t have a clue what Nendoroid to add to my Christmas wish list, but I thought Yuri Katsuki from Yuri!!! On Ice would be a good one to add for sure. This is a Nendoroid I really hope Dane has bought me for Christmas he’s gorgeous and I really want to get him and Viktor to put with our collection. Any other Nendoroid’s I want are probably really old and very rare ones. In all fairness though, I don’t care which Nendoroid(s) I get from Dane for Christmas, I’ll be happy with any!

  • Your Name Manga Vol. 2 – £7.98 (link)
  • Your Name Collector’s Edition Steelbook Blu-ray – £24.99 (link)

I LOVED Your Name so much when me and Dane went to watch it in the cinema so I would love to not only get the collector’s edition blu-ray for Christmas, but I really want volume 2 of the manga to read! I picked up volume 1 in the summer when it came out and it’s so good. If you loved the anime, then you will probably love the manga even more! I also really want the Your Name Nendoroid’s too! 😛

  • Pokemon Indigo League Season 1 Blu-ray – £49.99 (link)

As regular readers will know (or anyone to be fair…) I am a MASSIVE Pokemon fan and I remember back in the day waking up early to catch the weeks episode of Pokemon on SM:TV Live. Earlier this year I binge watched all of the episodes of Pokemon Indigo League on Netflix. When I saw that this was coming out, I was super excited and it was one of the first items added to my Christmas wish list! I really hope I get this so me and Dane can binge watch it whilst I’m off work over Christmas.

  • Your Lie In April Part 2 Blu-ray – £41.09 (link)

This is an anime I fell in love with this time last year. Dane bought me part 1 on blu-ray for my birthday this year and back in April part 2 came out. it’s a limited edition set and of course I NEED part 2 to add to my collection. Again, I hope I get this so me and Dane can watch it all together. I haven’t actually finished watching this anime, but I’ve read all of the manga. It’s amazing but really quite sad.

  • A Silent Voice Blu-ray – £29.99 (link)

ANOTHER ANIME BLU-RAY! Oh man, I’m so sorry! 😛 I had so many blu-rays on my wish list, all anime related! This was my favourite film of this year and is one I was so stoked to go and see and I left the cinema feeling great. I bought the whole manga series after and read them all so quickly. Again, it’s by far one of my favourite manga series as well as anime films. Dane recently wanted to watch this again in dubbed, as we saw it subbed in the cinema. A part of me hopes I have the collectors edition of this for Christmas. I can see me binge watching this loads if I get it.

  • Pokemon Center Vulpix’s Crystal Season Purse/Wallet – £37.99 (link)

This is a wallet I regret not asking YY Kawaii to pick up from Japan for me back in October when she was out there! I got one thing from that collection, that being a notebook. This wallet is so damn cute and I could imagine it getting just as much attention as my Loungefly Pokemon handbag. I doubt very much that I’ll get this for Christmas and with that I doubt I’d be missing out. 😛

  • Studio Ghibli Spirited Away Haku Chopsticks – £10.78 (link)

I LOVE using chopsticks and whenever I get the chance to use them, I do. I have 2 pairs my friend Sophi (HEY! :D) gifted me over the past couple of years and they’re amazing! When Dane asked me to look for some little present ideas, I found these Haku chopsticks. Haku makes me happy, merch especially, as well as artwork so I would be so stoked to use chopsticks with him on too!

  • Studio Ghibli Spirited Away No Face Sweater – £24.99 (link)

Another Studio Ghibli item, but whatever! 😛 Truffle Shuffle are really on it right now with the Studio Ghibli merch and this and the Totoro sweater they’ve brought out are amazing. I would love this to snuggle up in with shorts and my Docs! I’d love them to bring out a Haku one but I doubt they will. If I got this I’d totally wear it for New Years Eve!

  • Lush The Man On The Moon Gift Set – £44.95 (link)

Finally we have my last Christmas wish list item on here and of course it has to be a bit of Lush! 😛 Dane asks me every year to find a gift set or two from Lush that I like the look of, one for him to possibly get and one for his parents to possibly get. I linked quite a few for him and sadly this isn’t one he would accept due to the price. BUT it’s the one I actually really, REALLY loved and wanted! First of all I love the re-usable tin, as well as all the night time themed products inside, which I’d love to use on pamper evenings and weekends. It also contains quite a lot of items I’ve never tried before either! If I don’t get this for Christmas I’ll try and get some in the Boxing Day sale.

Now that I’ve done my actual wish list for “Father Christmas” this year (Father Christmas being Dane pretty much! :P) it’s time to go back in time to what I would have asked for Christmas 20 years ago when I was seven years old. 🙂

Just a little disclaimer though, I don’t think all of these came out in 1997, some may be 1996 and later but meh I remember receiving these over Christmas… You get the idea! 😛

  • Loveable Bears.

These were cute little bear keyrings that came in different colours and scents! I can’t remember which I had to be honest, I have a feeling I had mint and strawberry. I know I had 2! They came with little bottles and if they cried you would feed them. They were like little Tamagotchi’s and were so adorable and fun to have on your backpack. Not so fun and adorable if they cried though!

  • Barbie & Ginger Doll.

This was one of my favourite Barbie’s, for so many reasons. First of all, look how cute and fluffy Barbie’s golden retriever Ginger looks! Second of all, it moves and third of all Barbie rides a skateboard, which Ginger helps her to achieve. As a kid this was just all kinds of wonderful to me and I remember playing with it all Christmas Day and onwards.

  • Doodle Bear Pets.

I remember getting a Doodle Bear when they first came out and I loved writing and drawing all over it, only for my mom to wash it so I could have myself a blank canvas all over again. I remember seeing the Doodle Bear Dog and I pleaded with Father Christmas to get it for me, which he obviously did! 😛 I never drew on it though to be honest, I loved it too much to be honest to, “ruin” it.

  • Pocahontas Braided Beauty Doll.

This was definitely one of my favourite dolls, EVER! The first film I saw in the cinema was Pocahontas and I was in love with that film, and it’s still one of my favourite Disney films to date, especially my favourite Disney Princess. I never even knew this doll existed until Father Christmas gave it to me. I was in love! Not only did it come with a Pocahontas doll, but of course it also came with a Meeko who would braid yours and her hair. What else could a girl ask for? 😛

  • Baby Born Doll.

This was one of the baby dolls that really opened up the market for the future of dolls like this. It would eat the “baby food” you gave it and poop it out, pee the “milk” you would feed it and even cry “real tears”! It was a hit with kids alike and I was so excited to open mine on Christmas Day! That doll really did last ages and I loved it so much. Due to it peeing and pooping so much you would constantly have to put nappies on it to catch all of that, or at least some washable type knickers. Mine broke after a couple of years and the water you could give it as “milk” would leak out of it’s arm and leg joints. I loved that doll though, so damn much!

  • Home Alone Talkboy.

Finally we have the one toy every kid wanted, as well as teenagers at the time I’m sure! I remember being gifted one of these after 1997 (I think anyway…) but I just had to mention it here! I remember watching Home Alone 2 and not really thinking, “oh man I want that recording thing he has!” but when I got one I loved it! I didn’t realise until researching the toys to add to this post that this was actually made because it was in Home Alone 2! It wasn’t a toy until after that movie, how cool is that?! It was just a prop and because loads of fans asked about it, they made it. What legends!

Oh man I have to be honest and say this is one of my favourite posts I’ve done in a long time, purely because of remembering some of my favourite toys from Christmases years ago. I can’t believe I was seven 20 years ago! That makes me feel hella old. 😛

Well it’s Christmas Eve, I hope you’re all ready for tomorrow to spend a lovely day with your loved ones. I hope if you have children they get everything they wanted and wished for from Father Christmas.

But I’ve said it many times over the years and I’ll say it again, don’t forget that Christmas isn’t a time that everyone is happy. It’s also one the worst days of the year for people with mental health. If you know someone who needs support this time of year, please support them if you can. If you’re someone who isn’t feeling their best Christmas Day, please seek support, whether it be from friends and family, or even Samaritans. I’ve been depressed over the Christmas period and it’s really crippling, especially when it’s that time of year when you’re meant to be “okay”.

I’ll leave all the links and numbers down below for anyone who needs to reach out and get support this Christmas. Also, if you ever need someone to talk to, I’m always willing to listen and support. You can find me over @maybeecoffee on Twitter.

March Favourites ’17

Wow it’s April already? I know I say this every month of every year but this year really is going fast already. It’s April now and with this month comes Dane’s birthday as well as us having some time off of work to do some stuff to the house. I can’t wait for mine and Dane’s week off together to be honest.

So it’s time for me to talk about my favourites from March, yay! AND don’t forget I now talk about lifestyle favourites every month now too. Double yay!

  • NSpa Fruit Extracts Strawberry Shower and Bath Gel.

I recently picked up this shower and bath gel on a random visit to Asda. I love the NSpa products and have never faulted them for their products, especially the shower and bath gels. I’ve tried various flavours but I’d never seen the strawberry one until that visit. We snapped it up straight away and both gave it a go in the shower the next morning. Oh my it is amazing! It smells just like strawberry lace sweeties which Dane loved. It reminds me of The Body Shop strawberry shower gel but this isn’t as nice. BUT I did find that this one is more moisturing! It’s also BRIGHT RED which is amazing, especially if you pop it into the bath. It smells amazing first thing in the morning and really wakes and perks you up for the day ahead. I definitely recommend giving it a go if you love strawberry flavoured things.

  • Blistex Relief Cream.

I mentioned last month in my February favourites (which you can read here) that my lips are suffering quite a lot lately and are constantly sore, uncomfortable and splitting. Since buying this lip cream it’s not been so bad, BUT my lips are still very sore and splitting. I’m going to blame stress and being in the cold quite a lot at work right now. If it doesn’t go though in the next week I’ll be going to the doctors as it’s becoming a joke now. It isn’t cold sores, it’s just weird. xD

  • Marc Jacobs Oh Lola EDP.

I recently dug this out of my perfume box recently and I actually forgot how much I love the scent. It’s very floral and refreshing and not only does it remind me of summer days, but also of Bristol, where me and Dane went for our first anniversary together. I think when this is finished I’ll be repurchasing it in the future. I want to get through quite a bit of my perfume collection at the moment so I can try some new scents.

  • Superdrug Refreshing Hydrogel Eye Patches.

I found these in Superdrug of late when buying my mom’s Mother’s Day present and I couldn’t pass up the chance to give them a go. I bought three as they were on a 3 for 2 offer and they don’t break the bank at almost £1.50 each. I’ve given two of them a go so far and they really do help if you have tired eyes. I haven’t found they help my dark circles but they don’t really claim to help with this. I’m currently working very early shifts right now so after a tired week of that these really do help when used before bed. I leave them on for a good 15-20 minutes whilst reading a book or playing with an app on my phone. Lovely!

  • St.Ives Blemish Fighting Apricot Scrub.

I mentioned this back in August on my favourites and I’m mentioning it again because I was recently reminded how good it is. I have always used it with a wet face and hands and although it did scrub my skin and leave it feeling lovely and soft, I didn’t feel like it was leaving me as soft as I wanted to be. However I recently tried it without wetting my face and hands and I find that it works so much better! You are supposed to use it on wet skin but meh. Although I have sensitive skin I don’t scrub too hard and don’t have any issues. It leaves my skin feeling baby soft and gorgeous. My love for this scrub has been renewed!

So now my beauty favourites are done, time to talk about the miscellaneous favourites of the month!

Favourite TV Show – K-On

Dane recently introduced me to K-On, an anime about a group of high school girls who meet through the band club at school. You see them as they all develop as a band and how they do with their music. We’ve now finished season one and are soon to start season two. I love it so much! All the girls are adorable and the songs throughout the show are catchy and right up my street. My favourite character is Mio, the bass player who is the mature one of the group, but who is also scared of most things, especially singing on stage. 😛 I love her for that, as well as her being a left handed bass player like myself.

Favourite Film – A Silence Voice

I was so excited to go and watch this anime film! I wanted to book the first showing with Dane but sadly due to him working we weren’t able to. It looked like we had lost our only chance to go and watch this in the cinema but with a random Google search I found out they were doing one showing at The Electric in Birmingham. I booked it straight away and not long after I did it had sold out. This is definitely one of my favourite films of the year (including Logan) and I wish I could go and watch it again! I’ve attached the trailer above so you can see what it’s like.

Favourite Book – A Silent Voice

I had wanted to read the manga of this whilst I was reading Your Lie in April, as it was advertised at the end of each volume. I had already bought the first two volumes before we went to watch the anime film version, however just before going to watch it I ended up buying all seven volumes as I knew I wanted to read the rest after reading the first two. It has fast turned into my favourite manga series and I cannot wait to write a blog post about it as well as the anime when I finish the series. It’s about Shoya a cocky school boy who becomes a bully when deaf girl Shoko joins his class. She ends up leaving the school and he’s left on his own as a punishment for his actions by the rest of the children in his class. Years later he learns sign language so he can apologise for his actions years previously and from there we see how their friendship grows, as well as many more. It is a beautiful manga and one I recommend everyone to read.

Favourite Song – Sex Whales & Phantom Sage – One Day.

I LOVE songs that are brought out by NCS for so many reasons! Most of them I find are of the chilled electronic style which I love and are free to use. I can’t recall where I heard this song, but I’m pretty sure it was from a blogger or YouTuber. Either way it’s amazing and very chilled, something I can see me blasting throughout the summer both at home as well as on the move. I’m hoping to start doing YouTube videos this year and NCS songs are what I’d be using on any future videos.

Favourite Game – ???

Erm I can’t lie I haven’t played any games this month… Most of my time has been focused on reading manga in all honesty… Is that bad? 😛 I really do need to pick up Pokemon Moon again though! As well as some of my Lego games. We did buy Lego Worlds when it was released and whilst Dane loves it, I’m not a huge fan. I’m not used to playing Lego games like that and as silly as it sounds it creeped me out a tad. 😛

So those were my favourites from March. It was hard to think of stuff I loved this month apart from the shower and bath gel and the Blistex cream. Only because I just didn’t take much notice really. That and due to my lips being sore lip products other than balms or creams are a no no, which makes me very sad. 😦

What were you loving throughout March? Make sure to let me know in the comments down below!

Until next time take care all and I hope you have a lovely weekend.

As regular readers will know, me and Dane are both massive fans of manga and our love of it is only growing more as we start and end another manga series.

I was writing and aiming for this post to be up on my blog around World Book Day but sadly due to life and how busy it can be, I never got around to finishing and publishing it on my blog.

BUT no time like the present and I’ve accumulated more manga since World Book Day which is amazing of course! I of course have included Dane into my manga collection as with both of our books combined we have a great collection so far. I also did some questions for both me and Dane to answer in relation to manga. So it’s kind of like a his and her manga post today! I hope you enjoy it.

Dane Questions & Answers:

  • What was the first manga you read?

Admittedly I have gotten into manga much later than I could or should have. My first manga was (is) actually Attack on Titan. After watching countless anime I watched the first season of Attack on Titan and couldn’t wait for the next season so I began reading the manga.

  • What is your favourite manga to date and why?

Easily Berserk. I have seen and heard about it in the past but always thought it was a manga that was “edgy” for the sake of being edgy. Granted the first arc of the manga does show Guts to be an edgelord (someone, especially posting on the internet who uses shocking annalistic speech and opinions that they themselves may or may not believe to gain attention and come across as a more dangerous and unique person) but he is kept likeable and grows over the course of the manga.

The world of Berserk is a dark one, the manga is very explicit in this and does not shy away from some truly WTF moments. It is not for everyone. It begins with Guts getting freaky with a crazy demon only to kill it mid coitus which is a great way to show what is in store for you. This is one of its greatest assets the fact it is not afraid of going balls to the wall with its story, there are some truly great characters and events that will make you smile and sometimes you will be cutting onions outside in the rain whilst miraculously keeping the book and everywhere but your face dry.

One of the other assets that make this manga worth people’s time is the superior artwork that goes into it. Kentaro Miura is a master when it comes to bringing his panels to life, the character design and the detail (particular the full spreads) are just sublime and you have to see them to believe. Every artist has their moments where some things don’t look quite right but Miura can be excused when he does things like this:

Seriously, anyone should give this article (http://www.exprofundis.com/the-art-of-berserk/) a read because it helps break down the inspiration behind some of the art and showcase some of the best images.

The manga was not my first experience of Berserk. I had tried to watch the anime on a few occasions but never got into it. I have always found it difficult to watch most 90s anime because it doesn’t always gel with me. After giving the 90s season another go I surprised myself when I had a thirst for more, so, like I did with Attack on Titan I began reading the manga. I also heard about the three films which cover the golden age arc, which is the same arc as the 90s series. To me the CGI in those films works really well and I enjoyed those adaptations the most and really makes you wish they carried on making more. The problem is neither really follow the manga chronologically, the 90s anime has a few minutes of the black swordsman arc to go into the golden age arc and obviously the films skip the whole first chapter. So what you are left with is no true adaptation of a brilliant manga.

This then leads me on to why you should stick with the manga for the time being: The 2016 Berserk anime series. Since the first season has finished airing it has been greenlit for a second season. It was amazing to hear that we would finally get to see the full story of Guts in animated form. Only to be disappointed with a horribly directed and crudely animated shit show. The story was mostly there, even some moments which fans expected to be censored or cut (If you dare Google rape horse). I won’t go into too much of a critique but it had some good moments but was overshadowed by some really bad moments. It showed promise and I hope that the studio receive more time and money to give Berserk what it deserves.

  • Any online websites or phone apps you suggest for reading manga on?

If you really can’t get the physical books to read I would recommend the manga rock app. It’s free, has decent scans and is what I used to read Berserk and some works by Junji Ito.

  • What is a manga you regret reading and why?

I don’t really regret reading any not in that regards. I have looked at some and thought “nah I can’t be arsed with that” but never have I spent the time to read one and thought why did I bother.

To answer the question in a different manner I would say I regret reading some of the short stories Junji Ito has created. They leave you with a sense of uneasiness I haven’t felt from a book before. He is the master of the full spread shock and horror. The stories are some of the most unique I have experienced too, the creativity astounds me and leave you eerily excited to know the outcome but you are always left with a gaping hole because horror stories hardly ever end well.

  • What is a manga you can read over and over again and why?

All the manga I am currently or have read is still in production so the stories are incomplete. I have Death Note but that is on my to-do list. So the only manga I can legitimately say is Berserk as I am currently on my second run after finally purchasing the physical copies.

  • What is a manga you would suggest people read when first getting into it?

Attack on Titan was a very easy manga for me to get into, it has a decent story and is mature enough to keep me entertained. It is also one that lacks the typical tropes I have found with Japanese media; the fan service, unnecessary cute characters, sweat drop and so on. I don’t mind those things generally but sometimes I feel they remove you from the immersion in a story and western viewers may not appreciate too much of it.

  • Is there a manga you think is overrated?

I cannot allow myself to say a manga is overrated because I have not experienced enough to judge. Although I will bash something in my own time I would feel unfair to claim something I have little exposure to. Especially as I can understand liking something that the general public would see as weird or too nerdy just because it’s different.

  • Is there a manga you think is underrated?

Anyone who has read Berserk I hope will understand why people like it, even if they don’t themselves. I don’t think there are any that I have seen which don’t have a cult following or a new anime adaptation due out.

  • Would you read any of the manga Natalee owns? If so which one(s)?

I would definitely give Your Lie in April and Nichijou a read as I have already taken a quick look and they have peaked my interest. Nana and Paradise Kiss aren’t really my thing, both are most likely brilliant in their own right (the anime for Paradise Kiss kept me interested enough) but it’s just not my thing.

  • What’s a manga you love but hate the anime of?

Berserk, as mentioned above. Hate is a strong word for it though.

  • What is the next manga you wish to buy and read?

I am currently purchasing as many Berserk manga as possible but it doesn’t really count as one I am due to read as I already have caught up to the latest chapter.

I haven’t really thought that far ahead to be honest so I genuinely don’t know.

Natalee Questions & Answers:

  • What was the first manga you read?

The first manga I read was Elfen Lied. I had wanted to read manga for years but I never knew which one TO read. After watching the anime over a handful of times I knew it was time to find the manga to read. Physical copies are hard to come by in Japanese and I don’t think they’re available in English so I resorted to reading it online.

  • What is your favourite manga to date and why?

This is a hard one because I love all the manga I have completely finished so far. I honestly can’t answer this question with one manga to be honest. I would like to say A Silent Voice as the story is so realistic and one that has really pulled on my heartstrings. It left me thinking too which I loved. This being said I also loved Elfen Lied and Nana, although Nana isn’t officially finished yet.

  • Any online websites or phone apps you suggest for reading manga on?

I have used a phone app in the past but I can’t remember what it was called. I hated it. It wasn’t the app itself but just the way I felt about it. I can’t remember the website I used when I read Elfen Lied. I just Google’d it to be honest when I wanted to read it.

  • What is a manga you regret reading and why?

I don’t think there’s a manga I regret reading to be honest with you. I usually check out the anime before reading the manga so I’ll always know if I’ll like the storyline or not. I don’t regret reading it because I haven’t bought it, but I do want to get Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid but the artwork doesn’t look as nice as the anime does… I could see myself regretting buying that one for example.

  • What is a manga you can read over and over again and why?

Definitely Elfen Lied as I love the story. I especially love how different it was to the anime.

  • What is a manga you would suggest people read when first getting into it?

Something light and quirky is always a good choice. Azumanga Daioh is one of the first I read and it’s an easy one to read and very funny! I suppose any anime you have watched and fallen in love with you should read the manga because the chances are you’ll love that more!

  • Is there a manga you think is overrated?

From what I’ve seen it’s definitely got to be One Piece. I haven’t read it and I don’t even know what it’s about but fuck it takes up most of the manga books in shops such as Nostalgia Comics in Birmingham and Forbidden Planet’s all over the country. I’m sure it’s amazing and all but there’s just so many volumes! Same goes to Naruto as well.

  • Is there a manga you think is underrated?

I want to say anything by Ai Yazawa but this being said I don’t think she’s underrated. Paradise Kiss is a classic alongside Nana, which isn’t even finished yet and very much sought after these days by Ai Yazawa fans alike. I’m saying it’s underrated because of how long the hiatus of Nana has been now. People have probably given up now on ever knowing what happens in the end. I however have a little bit of faith left in me. I hope we find out sooner rather than later what happens.

  • Would you read any of the manga Dane owns? If so which one(s)?

I don’t know to be honest… I’d love to read Attack on Titan and One Punch Man but I would worry they’d involve too much action for my liking. Surprisingly I love this in Sword Art Online: Progressive but I don’t think I would like it in Attack on Titan and One Punch Man. This being said I love the anime of both of these, especially the action behind them!

  • What’s a manga you love but hate the anime of?

I recently started watching the anime of Paradise Kiss to coincide with me reading the manga and so far I’m preferring the manga a hell of a lot more! I just find that there are huge chunks missing from the anime which sucks! The same can definitely be said for Elfen Lied too, which leaves the ending in the anime in a really poor manner. There is so much more to the story than the anime lets on which is extremely frustrating. I definitely recommend reading the manga if you love the show. It’s shit loads better!

  • What is the next manga you wish to buy and read?

I don’t want to buy it because I wouldn’t be able to read it BUT I really want to print off all the Elfen Lied manga and pop them into a folder so I can physically read them. I would want to do the same for other manga that isn’t available in English.

Besides that I want to try and have a look at Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid before reading to see if I’ll like it and Masamune-kun’s Revenge as I recently started watching the anime which I’m really enjoying. I can see the manga being just as good to be honest.

So that is our lonnnng manga post! Do you like reading manga, or have you just started reading manga? Make sure to let us know which series you’re reading or have read! We’d love to hear from you all.

Until next time take care all and I hope you had a lovely weekend.

Currently #9

I know it hasn’t been that long since my last currently list but I thought it would be nice to write another considering how much stuff I have been currently doing! I’m pretty damn excited to write about a lot of them… I would have waited for my day off tomorrow to write this but the ideas and thoughts of it just came to me, so I have to get it typed and published tonight! I’m sure it’ll make some good bedtime reading for some, as well as some equally as good morning reading for others. 😛

Watching – Lately me and Dane have been watching a lot of anime if not just anime. Why? Well because we can and we want to! Before Christmas Dane bought a membership to Funimation which enables anime lovers to watch loads of anime with English dub instead of English sub. We don’t mind either way how we watch anime but sometimes if we’re multi-tasking we much prefer dubbed. We also have a membership to Crunchyroll which we use to watch subbed anime. ANYWAY! So lately we’ve been watching Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid and Masamune-Kun’s Revenge on Funimation and Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid has fast become one of my favourite anime shows! I want to read the manga for it next, the same goes with Masamune-Kun’s Revenge too. They’re both completely different to one another which is what I like. Dane got me into both of them which is really cool.

Masamune-Kun’s Revenge is a slice of life style anime where you get to see Masamune try to get a girl to fall in love with him only to break her heart. Why does he want to do this? To gain revenge for years of being bullied by her! It’s very funny and one you should check out if you like comedy romance style anime.

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is completely different and not slice of life or realistic at all and I think you can gather that from the title alone! As it states Kobayashi has a dragon maid. She befriends Tohru after a drunken night out and tells her she can come and stay with her and become her maid. From there we see them live their lives together with Tohru mostly in her human form and occasionally in her dragon form. We also see Tohru’s dragon friends becoming human too and joining her and Kobayashi’s friends. My favourite dragon so far is Kanna, the youngest of the dragons and therefore the cutest! 😀

Reading – I have been reading so much manga lately that I feel like I can’t keep on top of the addiction it has fast become! Since the start of the year I have either finished or started four series of different manga. WOW! I’ve not read this much since 2009 when I discovered the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella. I remember binge reading them late into the night. I have read and finished both Your Lie in April and Paradise Kiss, which I loved and will hopefully be reviewing in the future! Your Lie in April was an amazing manga to read and everyday during my break at work I found myself getting through a book a day and soon enough the series had finished and I had no more to read. It ended sadly but not as sad as I imagined to be honest, but I put this down to already knowing what was going to happen. Paradise Kiss was bought for me by Dane for my birthday this year and I bought the third and final volume myself. This is a manga by the same person as Nana and I didn’t know what to expect when reading it. I loved it and it was realistic and romantic at the same time but without too much romance. I did really love reading it and it was different to what I normally read. I especially love how Ai Yazawa breaks the fourth wall with her manga, it’s not something I’ve seen anyone else do… Yet. I started reading Nichijou, which I love but I’m in no hurry to continue with just yet.

I’m currently reading A Silent Voice which alongside Elfen Lied, Nana and Your Lie in April has fast become one of my favourites… If not my number one favourite right now. The story is so realistic and amazing. It talks about bullying and how it can affect everyone so well and is definitely the sort of thing I love to write myself. It has inspired me even more to create my own manga series in the future. Me and Dane went to watch the anime movie of A Silent Voice yesterday and it was amazing. I’ll be reviewing it VERY soon.

Listening – In February me and Dane booked for us to go and see cKy in May! AHHH I’M SO EXCITED! I’ve been a fan of the band since I was fifteen and have always wanted to see them live, but just never got the chance… Until now! I’ve been listening to most of their albums since then as I just forgot how much I love listening to their stuff. My favourite album of theirs definitely has to be Infiltrate Destroy Rebuild. I don’t know why, just all of the tracks make me so happy and I can sing them loudly, one after the other. I love all of their other albums of course, but this one just stands out the most. My favourite song from it is Plastic Plan, which I’ve put the music video for above. Let me warn you, it’s really fucking old. 😛

Eating – There’s not really much I’ve been eating lately that’s any different to lately. If anything me and Dane haven’t been following out diet like we were at the start of the year. We have cut out a lot of junk mind and still have, but at the same time we’ve been binging on things. We recently discovered that at one of our local Asian supermarkets you can buy birthday cake Oreo’s, as well as matcha flavoured Oreo’s and they weren’t as expensive as you’d think either. Just over £1 a packet! I wish we had bought more but meh got to be good. 😛

Wearing – To be honest I haven’t really been wearing anything too special lately… If anything I’ve worn a dress I bought in the Christmas sales in 2016 for a day out with Dane and an evening out with my dad and brother. I also recently bought a dress for a family wedding I’m attending this weekend. That will be exciting to go to! I would show pictures but I’m not too keen on showing them on my blog. Not because they’re horrible or anything, but they’re just not the sort of pictures I feel will work on a post. I’m waffling. 😛

Wanting – I really want a holiday to be honest. Even if it isn’t abroad, just for me and Dane to get away for a week max and have a relaxing time would be lovely. We did look to go to a spa weekend for his birthday in April but sadly due to everywhere being pretty much booked for Easter we aren’t really able to do that. We’re going to try and see if we can do something in June instead for our anniversary, but we shall see!

So that was my currently list number nine! Wow before we know it it’ll be my tenth one which is kind of weird to be honest. They’ve all flown by so quickly. To be honest this whole year is already flying by quickly. 😛

What’s on your currently lists right now? Make sure to let me know in the comments!

Until next time take care all and I hope you had a lovely weekend.

March Wish List 17

I should really call this wish list the “Japanese and geeky shit” wish list as apart from the two 101 Dalmatians mugs that’s pretty much all it is!

I’m not going to lie I haven’t made this months picture for my wish list look all that great… It just looks so clumpy and I hate it. BUT I blame all the manga books I put into it. I mean come on there’s 7 volumes clumped together there! 😛

So I’ll just run with my wish list this month. I am still on my spending ban however and if I buy anything off of it it’ll be the manga as currently manga is quite a big percentage of my life right now.

  • Pokemon Center Easter Pikachu Plush (Sadly no link right now and prices vary)

This collection was announced not long ago and as soon as I saw this little cutie I just fell in love! I know it’s childish but I need her in my Pokemon collection so badly. I just love how it isn’t in your face Easter either. The cute little flower crown and kawaii eyes. You cannot go wrong! I don’t know how big this is though, but I would like to think it’s a decent size.

  • A Silent Voice manga Vol. 1-7  – £8.99 each (link)

This is a manga I discovered through looking at the adverts in the back of Your Lie in April manga books. It’s about a deaf girl who starts at a new school and is bullied by one boy in the class and his friends. She leaves and years lately he’s being bullied himself for what he did to her. He bumps into her and learns how to say sorry in sign language. From there they become close and I think it’s a whole love thing. I love manga like this and when I heard that it had been made into an anime movie it made me happy! It’s out this month and me and Dane are going to try and see it at the cinema. I’ve linked the trailer above.

  • Disney Store Disney Animators’ Collection 101 Dalmatians Mug – £8.99 (link)

I love Disney mugs and even though I don’t need anymore (nor do I have the room for them!) I would still love to get more of these. I just like being able to have a nice collection in my cupboard, especially considering most of my Disney mugs are 101 Dalmatians related. This one is really nice and it looks huge! I like how Pongo and Perdy are the main characters on the mug with sketches of their puppies around the rest of it. I’ll definitely be having a look at this mug when I go into a Disney Store next.

  • Sword Art Online Progressive manga Vol. 5 – £9.99 (link) (OUT 21/3/17)

Another manga and a volume I’ve been waiting to have come out for about a year now! It won’t be out until the end of the month but it’ll be worth the wait, especially as I’ll pre order it when I get paid next week. I love Sword Art Online and I especially love the Progressive manga, which focuses around Asuna instead of Kirito. I just hope they don’t wait another year for the next volume to come out…

  • Pokemon Center Easter Pikachu Phone Case (Sadly no link right now and prices vary)

This is probably the main thing I actually really want (besides from manga!) on my wish list this month! The Pokemon Center phone cases are amazing and very sturdy for what they are. Plus how cute does the Pikachu look on it? I mean COME ON?! The only issue I am having with it at the moment is the price… I’ve found that it’s been a tad pricey on places like eBay. We’re saying between £30-£50 which is of course a joke! I love my Redbubble Mew case that Dane bought me and that only cost about £20. We shall see what happens basically….

  • Disney Store 101 Dalmatians Glazed Mug – £9.99 (link)

Finally we come to another 101 Dalmatians mug and one I have mentioned before on my blog. This one isn’t as nice at the other in my opinion but of course I still want it for the same reasons as the other. I would want to buy myself one of these mugs and one for Dane so that we sort of match. But even so these mugs with the glaze on the bottom are really sturdy from when I’ve seen them in store beforehand. You can’t go wrong with a sturdy mug! 😛

So that’s my wish list for this month! As I mentioned before I am still on my spending ban and don’t really intend to buy anything I don’t need. I have been a little naughty on and off this past month but meh. I’m not as bad as I was before so it’s not going all too badly. 😛

Until next time take care all and have a lovely weekend.
