These Boots are Righteous, not Wrongteous!

So as I was explaining last weekend (post here), I was going to be getting my hands on the Jake Dr. Martens x Adventure Time boots and of course, I got them.

First of all i want to say how image heavy this post is going to be! I wanted to make sure to get as many pictures taken as possible to show the boots off the best I could.

I want to just explain here again how these are infact an early present from my boyfriend for completing/passing my masters at university. However, as this isn’t due until September, I have six months to wait until I can officially have these! So whilst they were at my house, before heading to his and being locked away, I thought I would write a quick post about them and show them off.

These came out on Monday 2nd and not even a week into their release and all three styles of the boots were sold out online, as well as in most stores. I was gob smacked! I was beginning to panic I wouldn’t get my own pair, however after calling the Birmingham Dr. Martens store and reserving a pair to try on and buy, I was relieved.

I just want to say, the guy who I spoke to on the phone was extremely helpful and was sad I wasn’t able to thank him on Saturday when I picked them up. So, thanks Phil you were extremely helpful and made a Dr. Martens and Adventure Time fan very happy.

I just want to talk a little about the boots before I show them off.

They were unisex boots, but that isn’t an issue, I find anyway. They’re not patent, but normal leather and because of it are incredibly soft. This will make them easier to “break in”, which is something I have found issues with my patent leather Dr. Martens, even though I bought them second-hand!

The guy who served us (my boyfriend was with me) was telling us how the collection has been in such high demand that stores have been calling each other asking for stock as they’d sold out of certain sizes, if not all in some stores. In fact, my boots were so in demand that I had a “queue” of four people after me waiting to try them on, that was if I didn’t buy them of course.

I’m really surprised that the collection has sold out so quickly. I knew it was going to sell out, don’t get me wrong but I didn’t imagine that in the first week of being on the selves it would be pretty much gone. This is great for Dr. Martens and if they don’t decide to bring out some more styles, then they’re being daft!

Another thing I want to mention is my concern that when I got to the store to try these on, I wouldn’t like them. Don’t get me wrong, they look amazing, but just because something looks good on the picture, doesn’t mean they’ll look good on you. I’ve always had this in mind when it comes to clothes and shoes, that’s just me. My boyfriend also shared this concern but we were both pleasantly surprised when I tried them on and they looked perfect. The yellow shade of the Jake boots seems like it might be in your face, but it isn’t at all. It’s quite a nice creamy yellow, which works perfectly.

Something I think is amazing about Dr. Martens is that they do student discount, as you wouldn’t imagine such a “high up” fashion store would. Because of this my boyfriend saved £13.00 on these boots, causing them to cost £117.00 instead of £130.00.

Any flaws I need to get off my chest before I talk about all the good things? Yes, actually. I have quite a few flaws.

One I want to get off of my chest is that whilst I think it looks awesome and gives the boot a bit more of personality, the strap across the top bugs me a tad. When I wear my Docs usually, I like them to have an eyelet or two open at the top so that they can slouch a little and have a more “comfortable” look to them, but sadly you can’t do that with these. But this being said, they do look quirky and different, so it isn’t necessarily a flaw… Just me being a fussy cow!

Another problem I had, was the price. Yes, I know I didn’t pay for these, BUT I wanted to buy my boyfriend a pair for his birthday next month and alas, I can’t. They’re far too expensive (unless I take out a loan, ha!) and I don’t think he would want me to spend so much on boots, even though he has on me. It isn’t just the adults boots that are expensive either, at £80 a pair, the children’s boots are shockingly expensive! But, that’s Dr. Martens for you. You do get amazingly quality for the money and I’ve paid lots for my triumphs in the past and they’re still holding up and are some of the most comfortable shoes I own.

So, onto what these babies look like!

As you can see they’re a gorgeous cream yellow and have some detailing on them, mostly in black.

You also have a pair of straps on each boot, which are meant to be Jake’s hands/fists, a very unique touch! On the outside of each boot you have a drawing of Jake’s arm so when the strap is across the boot, it looks like his hand is attached to the arm. Pretty cool huh?

On the front of each boot you have a different picture of Jake, on the left boot you have him sticking out his tongue, and on the right boot you have him smiling. Very simple, yet incredibly cute. As well as that, on each boot beside these faces, there are cute little ears.

These also come with two different coloured laces, one black (as you can see) and a pack of yellow. I’ll probably stick with wearing the black ones, as I find they’ll work better. As Dr. Martens sell so many different coloured laces, I could always try a different colour in the future if I do so wish

To wear these are pretty damn comfortable and in comparison to my patent leather docs, they’re a shit load better! They feel like they will dig in a little at the back when I first wear them out and about, but that is to be expected. With some thick long socks and plenty of plasters, I’ll be okay!

It looks like Dr. Martens really went all out to make sure this collection was perfect and I think they did an amazing job! To have seen these back in May/June whilst they were in the factory and to finally see them now in my own room, waiting to be worn, I’m actually glad they turned out perfectly.

To be honest these boots just remind me of when I tried for an apprenticeship at Dr. Martens and how gutted I was not to have gotten myself a place. I could try again, but would there be any point? No, because I know that isn’t the way I need to go.

I think my Jake boots will always remind me to be a kid at heart and have fun, no matter how serious things may seem to be.

What do I stand for?

I stand for being unique and not letting anyone tell you you aren’t stylish, pretty, skinny, or fat enough to be fashionable. Fashion is what you make of it, not the other way around.

I also stand for doing what makes you happy, with the people who make you happy.

So, those are my Jake Dr. Martens and I won’t be allowed them until September. They’re now back in their box, and will be kept safe and ready for when I finish my MA.

I can’t wait to have these ready for autumn and winter this year, they’ll go perfectly with all sorts when the chilly weather is back.

Do you like the Dr. Martens x Adventure Time collection? If so, which pair do you like best? If you don’t like it however, why not? Hell, have you even bought anything from the collection yet? If so let me know which boots you’ve bought!

Until next time, take care all.

Dr. Martens x Adventure Time

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock the past couple of weeks, then you probably know about Dr. Martens teaming up with Cartoon Network to bring us a very exciting collection for Adventure Time!

I knew about this collection coming out nearly a year ago. How? I tried for an apprenticeship at Dr. Martens in Nottingham, which I sadly didn’t get. On the day where I had my practical assessments and interview I saw the Adventure Time boots in there and of course I had to ask about them. They told me they would be coming out soon and when a few months later I asked in the Birmingham store about them, that’s when I found out they would be out for S/S 15.

The designs that they had when I eyed them up were the three pairs that have come out, which are Jake, Finn and a pair with loads of prints of Jake and Finn. However there was also two other pairs that haven’t come out with this collection, which were Marceline and Gunter. I can imagine these will be out A/W 15 or S/S 16.

If you haven’t seen these beauties yet, then I’m going to show you!

The promotional video for this is amazing and I like how they’ve incorporated their #STANDFORSOMETHING campaign with Finn and Jake.

Not only are these out for adults, but they’re out for kids too which aren’t cheap at £80 a pair! This being said the children’s pairs are super cute and I wish I could buy a pair to later on in life dress my own kid in.

These are unisex boots so come in sizes 3-13 in UK sizes, and this includes half sizes for 6 and 9 too.

So you can imagine my excitement when Dr. Martens officially came out with their news about the boots coming out. This being said, I’m on a spending ban and £130 is now a lot to me as I don’t earn much since cutting my hours down for uni.

I knew from seeing them at Dr. Martens in Nottingham all those months ago that I wanted either the Jake or Marceline pair. So I’ve always had my eye on them.

This collection officially went on sale on Monday and already the Jake pair have sold out, which hardly surprises me. The only pairs left are the Finn and Finn & Jake boot. I’m sure these will be available this time next week.

You can imagine how gutted I was when I saw the Jake boot has sold out, as these are said to have been made in limited numbers, so people who are still after these boots might not even get a pair now…

So I was double gutted, one because I couldn’t afford the boots in the first place and now the pair I want is sold out. Knowing how upset I was my boyfriend kindly offered to buy me the Jake pair as a “congratulations on finishing uni” present, which I course I won’t be allowed to have until September… Which I can deal with! At least I would have a pair!

So at this moment in time, we should now have them! I rang the Dr. Martens store in Birmingham and asked if they had any pairs in my size left and luckily they have ONE LEFT! They kindly reserved them for me for when I pop in today and I couldn’t help but be super excited for today so that I can finally get my hands on this pair.

Seeing as I’m not allowed them until September, I don’t know if I’ll be writing a post about these before then… I’m hoping I’ll be allowed to but my boyfriend has been really strict on when I can have these, and I can understand why. They’re an early present, but not early enough I can have them now! Damn!

Either way I haven’t been so excited for a collection in a long time and Dr. Martens pulled a good move bringing this collection out.

One thing I would say about this collection is that IF you want a pair, get down to your local store soon or order online (if you can of course) as soon as possible as these are going fast.

I do have a feeling they’ll bring out another soon, as I said before. In said collection I would love to see some Lumpy Space Princess boots! It would be cool to see some Fiona boots too, but I can’t see this happening.

What do you think of the Adventure Time collection? Do you love it, do you hate it? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time, take care all!
