Holika Holika Golden Monkey Glamour Lip 3-Step Kit – Review

Woohoo the first review of 2018 and one that has been WELL OVERDUE! I’ve actually owned a small pile of these since September 2016 now and yes before you have a massive beauty anxiety attack, they are still in date.

I picked these up from Homesense (which is practically TK Maxx’s brother who loves interior design!) in the sale as the box the masks were in was damaged. You got 3 in a box and from memory they were £3.00 in the sale.

Alas like all things from Homesense and TK Maxx once things are gone, they’re gone. They still get the odd Korean Beauty item but I haven’t seen these since then. I will link at the end of the review about where you CAN pick them up from.

I used one of these back when I first bought them and it actually caused my lips to be incredibly sore so I was put off using another one for quite some time until recently. I decided to give it another go and thankfully I didn’t have the same result as last time! Throughout me using it I wrote down all my thoughts and feelings so it’s a proper review! I’m really happy to have reviewed this product too as it’s a mixture of positive and negative.

I really hope you enjoy this review though, I know I enjoyed writing it to be honest!

As you can see the title of the post, the product name and also the picture above this is a 3 step kit and takes between 15-20 minutes to do, or maybe 30 minutes if you want some extra pampering!

Step 1 – Lip Peeling Patch. It’s an exfoliating patch which I left on my lips for a couple of minutes so that it could nourish my lips as much as possible. Then when I’ve had enough I take the patch off and rub it gently on my lips to exfoliate them. It has a sort of liquid peel type liquid on it which helps to scrub off any old and dead skin. I’m not going to lie, after using this patch on my lips they did indeed leave them feeling very soft and smooth, but they also felt really sore and hot! This worried me to be honest as I began to wonder if I’d had an allergic reaction to the product itself, or that it may have been way too harsh for my lips and the skin around them. I grabbed a baby wipe to wipe away any excess and a while after this the hotness and sore feeling passed. I hated this step though and next time I don’t think I’ll bother with it.

Step 2 – Volume Lip Pack. This is a gummy feeling lip mask that was by FAR my favourite step in the pack! It smelt gorgeous and I just felt really relaxed whilst using it. Due to the type of material it’s made out of it moulded perfectly to my lips and stayed in place for the 15-20 minutes that I left it on. It especially felt really cooking on my lips after what how step 1 made me feel. When my time was up and I had to take this off, I was a little on the sad side as I was enjoying wearing it so much! After use though my lips felt lovely and soft and somewhat plumped to be honest, however it wasn’t anything special like Kylie Jenner! This being said when I was taking pictures for this post my lips did look much more plumped than before, or maybe they were swollen… 😛

Step 3 – Honey Lip Essence. This is the final step in the pack and it’s pretty much just an intense lip balm. I absolutely hated this for various reasons. The first reason being that this stuff went EVERYWHERE! It was all over a cushion I lean on, on my phone and on my notebook. Whilst it was like Vaseline it was twice as greasy and was so gross. When I did finally get it on my lips it did feel somewhat nice and lasted ages. HOWEVER give me Vaseline ANY DAY!

What do I think of this lip mask kit then? Overall it is pretty decent if you fancy a treat or something different in your pamper routine BUT for the price Yes Style charges for (what looks like one…) it’s not worth it AT ALL. You can get the same result from a lip scrub and loads of Vaseline to be perfectly honest.

This has however given my lips some serious TLC and they have seriously been in need of it by the end of January after spending the month being really poorly.

If you fancy picking up one of these lip kits yourself, then you can find them here on Yes Style.

Would you give this lip kit a go? Make sure to let me know in the comments down below!

Until next time, take care all and I hope February is going well for you so far.

2016 Favourites

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! It’s New Years Day and hello 2017! I can’t believe how quick it came around. I’m happy for a new year, even though I rather loved 2016 for various different reasons. SO I thought I would do a favourites of 2016 but it won’t just be for beauty like my monthly favourites posts are, it’ll cover a lot more. I’ll be talking about beauty, fashion, games, books and films. For each I’ll be naming 3 things that were my favourite. I know I usually write why they’re my favourite(s) but I won’t be doing that today.

October ’16 Favourites

Wow October blitzed through this year and now Halloween is over it’s time for annoying people to shoot off fireworks at stupid times (and stupidly at each other…) and then onto alllllll the Christmas stuff!

But for now lets try and not get too excited for Christmas yet seeing as we have all of December to do that… Which will be here before we know it too! My favourites this month aren’t anything special sadly and I actually found it really hard trying to think of what I loved this month. Eventually I soon came up with some ideas. 😛

  • Lush Snow Fairy Shower Gel

As many of my old readers will know I LOVE Lush and I especially love Christmas time when Snow Fairy their Christmas classic comes out. This sells out fairly quickly when it first comes out, both online and in store. I still have my bottles from last year to use up before I buy anymore this year. Dane bought me the huge 1kg bottle last year for my birthday in January and we recently started to use it. We both love the smell so whenever either of us use it we can smell it on each other right up until the end of the day when we get into bed. It’s a great shower gel not just for the smell, but it leaves you feeling lovely and clean, as well as soft and smooth. Oh by the way the label isn’t on the bottle anymore because the label kept peeling and making a mess so pulling it off was just easier.

  • L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream

My mom recently gave me a large tube of this hand cream because she got it for free when she ordered some goodies for herself. I have LOADS of L’Occitane hand cream to use up but meh I needed something at the time as my hands were really dry and I ended up keeping it. Now it lives in my handbag as my daily hand cream that I use before, during and after work. My eczema is starting to flare up again due to the cold so this hand cream has really helped to calm it down when it’s really bad. You can never go wrong with their shea butter hand cream, it’s definitely the best one I’ve ever used to date!

  • Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Androgyny

I LOVE Jeffree Star’s liquid lipsticks and I’m forever eyeing up a new shade to buy, or even new shades that are being released. Recently Beauty Bay a UK beauty brand online brought his brand out to the UK and along with that LOADS of shades! I hadn’t been fussed about picking up Androgyny until my friend Rhi from work picked it up and it looked so lovely on her, so she swayed me to pick one up myself. Since then I love it so damn much and wear it a couple of times a week. I’ll be reviewing this very soon.

  • Holika Holika Smoothie Peeling Jam (Grape Expectation)

This was a face scrub I picked up from Homesense when I was in Chichester for work. It’s a gel style scrub you apply to dry skin, with dry hands and the more you rub the more dead skin begins to form on the skin. It literally peels away all your old dead skin cells on the skin. I would love something like this for my whole body to be honest! I bought two jars of this as I loved it so much after the first use. A little bit of this goes a long way which is great. It’ll definitely last me ages!

  • Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub

I’ve used this body scrub on and off for a couple of years now and make sure to use it weekly so ensure my skin stays lovely and soft. The best thing about it though is how lovely and sweet it smells, like a key lime pie. It works great not just for scrubbing the dead skin off of your body but also as it has some form of oil it leaves your skin feeling soft and as if you’ve used a body lotion or conditioner.

So those were my favourites from last month! I’ve found it was mostly items that help keep my body lovely and soft. You can tell the weather has got colder and harsher on the skin.

What did you love using last month? Make sure to let me know in the comments down below.

Until next time take care all and I hope November is an exciting month for you all!
