January Favourites 2015

2015 and we’re already into February! I wasn’t expecting my holiday in January to go by so quickly either.

The majority of my favourites in January were products I used frequently whilst on holiday, or discovered whilst I was there.

I’ve decided to do something a little different this year, instead of talking about ten favourites each month, I’ll be talking about five instead. I just feel like it means I REALLY liked the items I talked about and therefore would have needed to think about hem more carefully.

So, here are my favourites!

  • Diesel Loverdose EDP.

I had run out of this years ago and was gutted as it’s by far one of my favourite perfumes to wear. It’s a strong scent that lasts ages, and has a unique smell. So when my Dad offered to buy it me whilst on holiday as one of my birthday presents. He got me a massive 75ml bottle, so that’ll last me way longer than my 30ml bottle did. I wore this most of my holiday because of what a lovely summer scent it has, I only wore it in the evenings though but it sure did smell good and last ages. I’m so pleased to have this back in time for spring and summer.

  • The Body Shop Hand Cream in Coconut.

I just want to mention how I cannot find my hand cream anywhere in the house and this is why I’ve had to insert a picture here. I LOVE The Body Shop’s hand creams and alongside the Hemp hand cream this is one of my favourites. It has a gel like texture and isn’t as heavy as the Hemp one. Whilst I was on holiday my hands were the best they’ve been in a long time. I was using this hand cream throughout the holiday and it felt lovely on my skin. It’s one you can use in the warmer weather due to it not being heavy. It also had the lovely coconut smell, which is such a typical holiday scent! I’ve also tried the Strawberry hand cream but I didn’t like it as much as I like this one! I’ll definitely be repurchasing in the future.

  • Carmex Lip Balm in Strawberry.

I used this throughout my holiday and it kept my lips lovely and soft, as well as protected due to it containing SPF 15! I’d never liked this lip balm all that much before, but I really did enjoy using it whilst I was away. The precision on this is great and meant it was easy and quick to apply when on the go. I used this underneath my lip products too and it did a mighty good job of creating a moisturisng layer. I used up nearly all of the tube as well, I was really surprised! I’ll definitely be trying the Cherry flavour next!

  • OPI Nail Lacquer in Coca-Cola Red.

As I mentioned in my Holiday Haul my Mom picked me up a set of the Coca-Cola OPI polishes, and inside of course there was the classic Cocoa-Cola Red. I wore this on my toes for the entire two weeks of my holiday and it lasted so well! I didn’t wear a base coat (naughty!) and I didn’t wear a top coat (double naughty!) and it still lasted the whole time. It’s said to be the exact same shade as the Coca-Cola cans, which I think is pretty cool! This is a cream finish is gorgeous! I don’t think I’ll ever wear this on my nails as I don’t suit red really, but on my toes it made me feel lovely.

  • Revlon Just Bitten Balm Stain in Honey Douche

This was a balm stain I was given by my Mom as she didn’t like the shade that much and I didn’t think I would either, but it’s turned out that I love it! It’s a light pink shade and is a really nice nude shade at that. I’m not a fan of nude shades but this worked lovely as I built up my tan whilst I was on holiday and it also lasted ages on my lips. I never did try the Revlon lip crayons until I received this one, and it’s probably one of the best ones I’ve ever tried. I can see me picking up more in the future as they’re so great to quickly apply when on the move.

So those were my favourites for January! What did you use last month and enjoy? Let me know in the comments.

Until next time all, take care and I hope you had a good weekend.

MUA Power Pout Colour Intense Tint & Lip Balm in Broken Hearted Review

Another week, another lip product, another review. If you’re a regular reader you’ll know just how much I love my lip products and when a new type of lip product hits the shelves, I’ll try my best to get my mitts on one to try! The latest addition to lip products is of course the lip crayon.

Clinique were the first to bring out the lip crayons and eventually Revlon, Bourjois, Seventeen and even Rimmel are getting on the bandwagon!

I’ve wanted one of the Clinique Chubby Sticks for ages, but I’m in two minds whether or not I want one at the same time. I have my eye on shade Plushest Punch after seeing a review of it (here) a while ago. However at their £17.00 price mark I’m a tad put off for the meantime, especially as I’m pretty poor at this moment in time too.

A few months back I was wandering around Superdrug with my Mom, looking around the make up counters when I stumbled upon MUA’s stand and noticed they had their own lip crayons for sale. I tried out all the shades and decided that Broken Hearted was the shade I liked the most.

The Power Pout lip crayons come in six shades altogether, Broken Hearted, Crazy In Love, Irreplaceable, Justify, Rendezvous and Runway.

As I’ve already mentioned, I chose Broken Hearted. These lip crayons are only £3.00 each, so I was pretty good not to walk out with more!

MUA claim that the Power Pout’s are both a tint and a lip balm so they’ll make your lips look gorgeous, as well as be protected and moisturised at the same time. They do definitely give great colour pay off and they do make my lips feel soft and smooth and at the moment this has been the lip product I’ve been reaching for when going to work as it’s so quick and easy to apply and it lasts ages!

Broken Hearted is described by MUA as a deep rich raspberry, which is pretty accurate, it reminds me of a dull hot pink too, which will work wonders for anyone who it too shy to wear a hot pink lip colour.

Due to this being a lip balm it leaves a glossy finish, which looks really nice and it feels creamy too, perfect if you don’t like a matte or satin finish on your lips, which can feel really drying.

The lip crayon glides on easily with no tugging and as it is in the shape of a pen it’s easy to apply, especially if you have thin lips. When the product wears down you don’t need to sharpen it either as with a few twists at the bottom of the crayon the lip colour will just come up.

As well as looking great it smells lovely too. It smells somewhat minty and I’ve found when applied to the lips it’ll leave a slight tingle, but nothing like what a plumping lip product would do.

Whilst I have many positives about Heart Broken, I do also have some negatives that I know other beauty bloggers have mentioned in their reviews of the Power Pout’s too.

If left in a warm room or taken out when hot, they WILL melt. This happened to mine the last time I saw my friend Poppy and the crayon itself has moved so it’s ended up mushing against the inside of the crayon tube, which is really annoying! Due to this it’s hard to wind up to reveal more product and when applying the lip product you can see it hitting against the sides of the crayon tube, which just makes me cringe.

As well as this due to it melted a little once in my room one night when it was really humid, the lip crayons tip has gone a bit mushed, but personally this doesn’t bother me, as it’s molded in a shape that makes the product easier to apply on my lips than it was before.

I guess it isn’t so bad that this lip crayon didn’t break the bank at £3.00, I’d be really annoyed if it was one of the Clinique Chubby Sticks!

I really like this lip crayon though and so far it’s the only one I own, thus the first one I’ve owned so I don’t have much to compare it to. I’m hoping to pick up a Bourjois and Clinique one in the future, but we’ll see.

For £3.00 each, the Power Pout’s are worth picking up and the choice of shades is incredible too!

Will you be picking up one of these to try?

If you already have one, which shade do you own? Let me know in the comments below.

Until next time, take care all and I hope your week is going well so far!
