8 Games I’m Excited To Play

This evenings post is something I have wanted to write about for a while. I’ve been a gamer since the age of 5 and proud of that! My first console was a Super Nintendo Electronic System (SNES for short), which I still own to this day! Soon after that I was gifted a Game Boy, with a Tetris cartridge in. I loved that game so much, I never got bored of the games music either. 😛

There’s quite a lot of games coming out this year and even next year that I’m already excited about, so I thought I would share those here with you all! I talk a lot about gaming to be honest with you… In the “real world” if you will, but I feel like I never talk about gaming on my blog as much as I would like to. I want this to change and in the future I would even love to film myself playing some games to pop up on YouTube!

I know not a lot of people can afford games, or are interested enough in them to play them themselves and just want to see the story. I’m like that myself to be honest with you. I’m really interested in Cyberpunk 2077 BUT the reason it didn’t make it onto this list is because I doubt I will play it and instead I would watch my boyfriend Dane play it instead. I’ve done this time and time again with games and I have zero regrets.

Let’s start talking about the games! This post will be a long one. 😛

  • Untitled Goose Game – Out 20th September 2019 Nintendo Switch (link)

This is a game that I’m gutted I never got to play at EGX… I’ve seen people playing it and watched videos of trailers etc but as of yet I have not had the chance to try. I’m not going to lie, I had forgotten all about this game to be honest with you! It’s only from looking at my EGX post last year that I discovered it again. This is a goose simulator game, where your task is to annoy humans as much as possible! You get tasks you have to do to complete the level. I cannot believe this is out next week! I hope it is in the UK anyway… If so I will be buying it and spending my weekend playing it with Dane. Apparently this is available on Steam too, but I’ll be getting it for the Switch.

  • I Love You, Colonel Sanders! A Finger Lickin’ Good Dating Simulator – Out 24th September 2019 on Steam (link)

This game was announced this morning. I read about it on Twitter and I am already smitten with the idea of this game. I’m not like a massive KFC fan or anything, but the fact this is a dating sim game AND it is made by KFC makes me fucking laugh. It’s out in a couple of weeks (again, hopefully in the UK again as well) and not only do I plan on getting it, but I also plan on filming myself playing this game. I’m so damn excited for it, that I need to share the shits and giggles of playing it with others.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 – Out 31st October 2019 on Nintendo Switch (link to Smyths)

I’ve never played the Luigi’s Mansion games, but I’ve always wanted to! I never played the first game as it was around when I didn’t own a GameCube and I never played the second one because I didn’t play the first one! I’m pretty sure you don’t need to know the story to play this game. You’re Luigi (the better of the two plumber brothers, in my opinion!) with a Ghostbusters style kit and you’re in a haunted mansion. What more is there to explain, really? This isn’t a game I plan to rush out and buy the date it comes out, but if I found it at a decent price I’d definitely pick it up to play with Dane, as this is a two player game! I love that this is out over Halloween! Perfect timing to be honest with you. If a demo comes out I’ll definitely give that a go.

Pokemon Sword & Shield – Out 15th November 2019 on Nintendo Switch (link to Smyths here, here and here)

This game is already on pre-order and I’ve even bought both of the games, one for me and one for Dane! Of course for the time being I’ll be sharing Dane’s Switch (which we have been doing since he bought it in 2018) alongside him to play this game! I still don’t know which game I want to play yet, but for me it will entirely depend on which game has the best exclusives. I’m very much excited for these games though, as I have a feeling Pokemon have learnt from how lame Sun and Moon were and worked really hard to bring us better game play. Gyms are back and we also have some new features in Sword and Shield! I’m definitely swaying towards Sword though. 🙂

Alchemic Cutie – Out 2019 on Steam (link to Steam)

At EGX last year I gave this game a go and I really enjoyed playing it! It reminds me of Animal Crossing with the game style and is a very relaxing game. You live on an island that is home of jellies, which you must go out and tame to make them your own. Then once you have these jellies you can participate in competitions with them and more! It was definitely a cool little game I played during EGX and one that stood out to me the most. There isn’t an official release date yet, but it just says 2019 at the moment. I’ll definitely be keeping my eyes peeled on this, I really like relaxing games, especially after a long day at work.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Out 20th March 2020 on Nintendo Switch (link to Smyths)

I don’t think I need to say a whole lot about this game. Everyone knows how much I love Animal Crossing and just how damn excited I am for New Horizons to come out on the Switch. As of yet I haven’t actually pre-ordered the game, as I’m praying that Nintendo will release a Switch console (normal or the Lite) to coincide with the new game. Even if it doesn’t, I’ll still be happy, but either way I would still pick myself up a Switch of my own as I would like one for playing games like this. I know Dane is planning on picking up New Horizons too so that we can play this together. This looks like there’s so much more to do now than ever before and alongside the old school Animal Crossing, it also reminds me of Minecraft too, where you need to craft and build things. Honestly, I can’t stop thinking about this game and for the time being I am trying to keep my Animal Crossing cravings at bay with Pocket Camp! 😛

Calico: Magical Girls Running Cat Cafés – Out April 2020 on Steam, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4 (link to Kickstarter)

Next we have Calico, a game that I backed over on Kickstarter quite a while ago now! I stumbled across this game and after keeping my eyes on it for a couple of days, I decided to back! Again, as the game’s name explains, Calico is a game about two magical girls who are running cat cafes. This game reminds me of Animal Crossing, where you need to look after your cafe, whilst gathering cats and other animals from the woods nearby to host in your cafe. You can also create massive animals too who you can ride, including a red panda! I am so excited for this to come out in April and I although it is available on all consoles, I decided to get it on the Switch, as this is a console I have really loved playing my games on of late. 🙂

To The Rescue! A Dog Shelter Simulator – Out August 2020 on Steam (link to Kickstarter and Steam)

Finally we have the last game on this post! I’ve actually backed this game on Kickstarter. It was one I wasn’t sure about and due to that ummed and ahhed for ages about it. I’m glad I backed it in the end however, as I think I would have regretted it. As the title of the game tells you, this is a dog shelter simulator game and as you would in a dog shelter, you look after any dogs that come in, try to get them adopted and more. There is even a point in the game where you may need to put a dog to sleep if it’s not adoptable, or been at the shelter too long. However, this is a an optional option for the game, so if you don’t want to do anything like this, you don’t have to. This game isn’t going to be out for just under a year now, which is crazy! It’ll be worth the wait though.

So those are all the games I am excited for for the remainder of 2019, as well as 2020! I didn’t quite realise how many games I’m hyped for until writing this post, as well as how many I have pre-ordered.

Which games are you excited for? Make sure to let me know in the comments.

Until next time, take care all and I hope you’ve had a great week so far!

Fan fiction: real or not real?

Hi everyone! I’m Kanra, taking over for Nat today since she’s on a vacation (and can’t answer the phone right now). I’m one of those odd bloggers who don’t really have a particular niche I stick to. Some days I’m posting about school (I’m a medical student), some days I’m posting about art (I really like painting) and some days I’m posting about random things that take up my interest. Today’s random topic of the day is fan fiction.

I’m not an avid reader of fan fiction and certainly not a writer either. In fact, I don’t think I would have been overly concerned about this topic at all if it hadn’t cropped up in a chat room I frequent. It was a writing group, where people who were either in the process of writing or editing would congregate to share their work and request for constructive criticism. It was a pretty nice group, until someone posted a fan fiction and asked if it could be reviewed.

Admittedly, it was a poorly written piece of work. I guessed the writer was maybe around 14-15 years old, merely writing out a rough draft of a fantasy or day dream they had. The writing was disjointed, meaningless details about the main character, unrealistic bullying and resultant save by ignoring the situation and focusing on the power of friendship or something along those lines. If someone asked me to constructively criticize that piece of work, I would have probably declined because there’s just so much wrong with it that needs to be fixed.

The moderator then decided to throw out the question: should fan fiction be banned from the group entirely?

I recently took an MBTI test which classed me as an INTJ, given the title of “The Architect” or “The Mastermind”. There are other characteristics of this personality type which include things like “avoiding eye contact while talking”. To be honest, I didn’t even realize I had some the characteristics I have until I read up on it, like arguing as soon as a person of power suggests something. So of course when the discussions started shifting towards a “yes, ban fan fiction”, I couldn’t help but argue against it. It’s like my inner rebel teenager came out.

The history of fan fiction is something long and messy, something we will not discuss at the moment (it involves lawsuits and copy rights). The only thing you need to know is that fan fiction is a gray domain. What fan fiction basically does is create a new story from an already published piece of work. There is almost nothing that you, as a fan fiction writer, can claim for yourself. Everything you build on, from the setting to the characters, is not yours. You can’t monetize your writing. I guess that’s why it explains why most fan fictions are poorly written wish fulfillment pieces.

Yes, I’m not going to lie. More often than not, fan fiction has disappointed me. The majority of these pieces of writing are poorly written, self insert fantasies. The occasional rare gem does show up and I couldn’t let a brash decision of “ban fan fiction” stamp these out. Not to mention the fact that most writers started out using fan fiction as a way to improve their writing before creating original content.

It’s okay to write bad fan fiction! You have to start somewhere and practicing it out with preexisting characters, universes and laws is better for hammering out the fluency of your words and polishing the entire process of writing before putting in effort to bring to life an original creation.

It’s really sad that there are amateur writers out there, who write as a hobby, dismiss fan fiction as legitimate literature. In my opinion, fan fiction involves just as much effort and skill as original content. It doesn’t matter what your idea is or how novel your plot is, if you don’t have the ability to convey ideas properly through good pacing, than what’s the point? It’s much more important for writers to focus on presentation and delivery rather than whether it’s original or not. To be very honest, the kind of attitude I see about fan fiction really makes me wonder why people focus on the wrong things. It’s just a harmless exercise that helps young writers develope their skills. If it’s not good fan fiction, then just leave it?

Personally, I like the idea of fan fiction. I watched Dexter a few months ago and in one of the seasons, Dexter is set up to almost turn himself in to the police, but of course, it doesn’t happen. When I finished that season, I wanted to know so bad what would have happened if Dexter had turned himself in. What would the other characters think? How would they react? I needed to know and I really wanted a fan fiction to answer these questions for me. Imagine how many other “could’ve been” scenarios there are out there that can be elaborated and explored through fan fiction! Isn’t that exciting? Of course, finding such literature is truly a challenge.

I normally don’t read fan fiction regularly, but there are some popular fan fictions that I’ve checked out and was blown away by and if you have zero exposure to fan fiction, then you should check it out! My absolute top favorite fan fiction ever is “Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality”. This is a full fledged Harry Potter book and it’s amazing, it condenses the plot of all seven books and years just into this fan fiction Harry’s first year at Hogwarts. It’s amazing and I can’t stress enough about how great this is. The writing style is great, the concept is great, it’s just amazing and deserves more attention!

The other fan fiction is something I came across while seeing art on Pinterest. This might sound really childish but it’s a PowerPuff Girls fan fiction called “More than Human”. Revolving around a high school (instead of preschool) where the PPGs go, it turns out the RowdyRuff Boys are there too. I actually haven’t read all of it (to be honest I kept getting the boys’ names mixed up) but it was really nice nevertheless (very slice of life, high school drama sort of thing) and there’s a lot of artwork out these from fans who loved the fan fiction, so hey! Check it out, might be your cup of tea!

What do you think about people who write fan fictions? Have you ever dabbled in this art? What’s your favourite fan fiction? Have a nice day!

I just want to say a MASSIVE thank you to Kanra for writing this post! As regular readers on my blog will know, I always love talking geeky on my blog whenever the chance arises! Although I’m not a fan fiction reader, Kanra’s post really opened up my eyes to it from both a reader and a writers point of view!

I hope you enjoyed reading her post just as much as I did! Until next time take care all and I hope you’re doing well!

Life Lately… A Roller Coaster!

Wow it has almost been a month since I wrote a life lately post! Just goes to show how busy I was with getting on with life that I haven’t really written a massive update.

I’ve just got back from a late shift at work and I’m sat in the living room, with Dane cooking me dinner as I binge watch YouTube videos. OH WHAT AN AMAZING LIFE I DO LEAD. END OF POST! 😛 Sadly due to being so busy the weekend and the late shift yesterday I am a day late posting this… It’s worth the wait though… I hope. xD

I joke of course, this is intended to be a long read so make sure you have a hot drink handy to cradle as you read. Or at least save this post for your work break or a long journey. I hope it is as long as I am anticipating… THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID.

The first thing I want to talk about is how I went to see cKy on Friday night and how fucking amazing they were! I’ve been listening to them since I was fourteen years old and have always wanted to see them live.

SO when I saw at the start of the year that they had announced a UK tour and a date in Birmingham, I KNEW I had to go! At first Dane wasn’t so sure as I think he imagined it would cost a fortune due to it being cKy. I knew it wouldn’t be too expensive due to the original venue so when we found out it would only cost us £15.00 each Dane was more into the idea. I was going to go all along anyway so yeah. 😛

So the morning the tickets went on sale I was at work so Dane booked them. It did sell out but the venue changed to a bigger one so that more tickets could go on sale… I assume anyway!

I swear the couple of months we waited to go to the gig really flew by and I was so excited and nervous the day of the gig. Of course I was excited to finally go and see a band I’ve been waiting to see live for over 10 years. But I was also really nervous because of various things. Due to wanting to see them play for so many years the anticipation of being able to make sure me and Dane got a good place to sit or stand was making me anxious. I also wanted to try and meet the band before or after too, which again was making me extremely nervous.

Well I needn’t have been nervous and anxious as the gig itself was amazing! Me and Dane decided to sit towards the back by the bars so that we could get a good view and sit down without being bashed around. I do regret not being near the front but at the same time I got the same sound and a great view of everything that was going on just as well.

Before the gig we picked up some merchandise from the stand. I picked up a baseball t-shirt which I cannot wait to wear! The material is lovely and soft and when I tried it on it looked awesome. Dane got himself a t-shirt too but he picked up the tour one which looks awesome! I can see me stealing it. 😛

After the gig we hung around for a bit inside the venue and picked up the support bands CD, they were amazing and the singer/bass player had a double bass AND is left handed! I’m a left handed guitar/bass player so whenever I see lefties like myself it makes me very happy. 😛

We went around the back of the O2 Academy to see if any of the band mates were around and low and behold there was Jess! My favourite member of cKy! I didn’t actually think I’d be able to meet any of the band, let alone my favourite. I went down and after allowing people before me to “have their turn” in talking to Jess, having pictures and things signed it was my turn and I was shaking with nerves. I’ve always been nervous when meeting celebrities like anyone is but I don’t ever remember feeling this nervous before. I was shaking all over and I didn’t know what to say!

Jess was lovely though and both me and Dane had a chat with him about when he last toured with cKy, how they played Download years before and even about what he was doing that night after the show. I even recommend some bars in town for him to go and drink at. It was awesome and he signed my ticket as well as having a picture with me.

I went home feeling on top of the world and the 14 year old Nat who was starting to come out of her shell was ecstatic and like nothing could get her down. That’s somewhat how I’ve felt in my 27 year old self since Saturday night… 😛

OH and you know what? The next day Chad liked a comment I left on one of the videos cKy put up on their Instagram from the gig. This just added to how happy I had felt the night before. Sorry about the obvious phone call that I print screened what Chad liked… I was on the phone to my dad at the time. 😛

That was the biggest thing I wanted to talk about in this post BUT I also want to talk about a couple of other things!

Friday I picked up a new PS4 game as I hadn’t bought myself one since Mafia 3 and Pokemon Moon. I picked up Persona 5 and it’s one I have quickly fallen in love with! I know I love Pokemon but I haven’t been able to get into Moon that much right now sadly… Persona 5 reminds me of Pokemon a little bit to be honest but with an anime element to it. I’ll be writing more about it in my monthly favourites at the start of June but I’ll pop a trailer above so you can see what it’s all about. It came out recently so it hasn’t been out that long, but it’s been out in Japan since September/October last year! :O This seemed to be sold out for a while in the UK as wherever I looked online it either wasn’t available or was only available in limited edition steel cases which cost a FORTUNE! :/

Some good news (not that there is really any bad news in this post… Well not yet anyway!) my lips are finally looking like they’re healed after 3 fucking months of hell, pain and torture! Basically I had angular cheilitis, this whole post here explains what was wrong. After that post however I had to go back to the doctors to get some more treatment as the one I was given worked, but only to fix my eczema. I was given an anti-biotic cream which has worked marvellously! Although this being said the infection did come back and I had to apply the cream again last night. So far it looks like it has healed. I’m hoping so for various reasons…

Due to how sore my lips have been I haven’t been able to wear ANY lip products bar lip balms… Yep no lipsticks at all. I have really missed not being able to wear any and to be honest due to how the infection can contaminate lip products I am now kinda too scared to wear any of my lipsticks in case the infection hasn’t gone or returns… I’m going to give it until June to wear anything else.

Image taken from weheartit.com

As many people will know lipstick is the only make up I really wear and due to this it’s my “thing” especially since I’ve dug deeper into it and experimented with it by wearing darker colours. If there’s a lipstick I really miss wearing it’s definitely got to be my MAC lipsticks, which I am craving to wear lately. I really fucking sucks.

You watch though, as soon as I start wearing my lip products again I’ll be writing ALL THE LIPSTICK POSTS! 😛

I don’t think I really made a post about this but me and Dane are going on holiday in September! YAY! We’re both super excited for it as we weren’t planning on going on holiday until we could afford to go to Japan. My parents were kind enough to offer to pay for us to go and have it as an early Christmas present. Of course we need to get our own spending money but that isn’t a problem! We have already started saving and we’re doing really well so far. EEEP SO EXCITED! By the way, we’re going to Fuerteventura again. 😛

Speaking of “holidays” me and Dane were going to book ourselves a short couple of day trip to London for our anniversary but sadly we aren’t going to now… We got super excited about all the places we would go and visit, as well as places to go shopping and have food at. The reasons for not going ahead with it are money, money and money.

Not only do we have our holiday to think about and save up for but we also have bills to think of. I have my car insurance to renew again soon and of course having our own house isn’t cheap… So yeah.

We can always go to London at the end of the year around Christmas time, or in the New Year for my birthday. 🙂

This is another bit of good news! I’ve started to be more active on my Twitter and Instagram pages which of course is good news! I was really anxious with using Instagram for my blog to be honest due to all the hashtags and well dickheads on there. 😛 Sadly due to this I won’t be putting any pictures of myself on there. The only place I do that is on my personal Instagram page, which is private. 😛

Don’t forget if you want to give me a follow on either of those accounts it’s @maybeecoffee for Twitter and @theremightbecoffeeblog for Instagram.

Finally I want to talk about what makes this life lately post a roller coaster… My mental health isn’t good right now. It’s actually gotten bad enough that I am seeking getting counselling… Again. Urgh. Also that picture by The Latest Kate is so accurate for how I feel in life right now… I just wish I could think that way when I have bad days.

Image taken from The Latest Kate

This isn’t something I was expecting to have to do ever again and whilst my mental health isn’t bad in suicidal sense (although I DO feel suicidal from time to time… Yuck.) but bad in the sense my anxiety is just awful right now. I’m constantly overthinking things from work, home, friends, everything to be honest. I’ve been worse to be honest but it’s bad this time in the sense it is affecting my health. Even my doctor has told  me due to stress and anxiety my bodies immune system is down. Not good.

So yeah. The few people I have spoken to about this has all said how proud they are of me for accepting that I need to do this for myself right now. I just hope it helps to be able to talk to someone. I feel like I bug my best friend Gab (hey! *waves*) and Dane with my problems… Even though deep down I know I don’t.

I’ll be keeping you guys updated with that stuff anyway to be honest. 🙂

Other than that everything is… Weird. It’s a mixture of good and shit right now. I’m living for the good though! I’m trying to just live for the moment and have the best time I can with Dane. We both have a week off together soon so we can celebrate our anniversary. I don’t think we’ll be doing all that much other than going out for a couple of adventures, see some friends and chill out at home. 🙂

Well my coffee is now bone cold and although I like cold coffee I think that means this post is over. 😛

How have my lovely readers lives been lately? Drop me a tweet about how you’re doing, or comment down below. Either way I’m happy with! I love getting comments and tweets. They make me happy. ^_^

I hope you all enjoyed today’s read and I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Until next time take care all!

Beauty Blogger Tag

some_text

Image taken from weheartit.com

Good morning, I hope you are all well! It is the start of a new week, and I can’t believe how quick May is going by already. Towards the end of April I was tagged by my wonderful friend and fellow blogger Kirsty over at Cosmetics Beauty Rainbow to take part in the beauty blogger tag. I felt loved, and it’s only now am I getting around to giving this tag a go myself!

1. What is your signature makeup style?
Well considering I only wear lipstick… A strong bold lip colour is always my signature look. Everyone always comments about how I wear dark shades like my reds, dark pinks, and purples. Can never say no to a Marilyn Monroe red shade, or a hot pink. My favourite lipstick brand to rock are Jeffree Star Cosmetics and MAC Cosmetics.

2. Have you ever made an embarrassing beauty blunder? And what was it?
Probably back in the day when I wore thick black eyeliner and eyeshadow! I was a total emo kid, and I thought it looked amazing. What annoys me is that I got bullied for my “panda eyes” and when I stopped wearing it, everyone started to rock it again! GRR! The same happened when I was in my early teens, I would wear blue lipstick and everyone picked on me. Now what is everyone wearing??? POINT PROVEN!

3. What is your favourite makeup brand?
MAC Cosmetics and Benefit for “high-end”.

Bourjois and NYX for “high street”.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics for “indie”.

4. When did you start wearing makeup?
When I was fourteen/fifteen I really started to experiment with make up. I rocked dark green, red, black, dark purple, and blue denim coloured eyeshadows with thick eyeliner. I didn’t wear much when it came to lip products… Probably a clear lip gloss.

5. Why did you start wearing makeup?
I think it was mostly based on what I would have seen in magazines, or on singers/celebrities. Avril Lavigne and Green Day were big inspirations on my make up when I was a teenager… Oh dear I was just an emo kid. 😛

6. Are you more high-end or high street (drugstore) when it comes to beauty products?
I’m a bit of both to be honest… I probably own more high-end than high street. A lot of my high street stuff I buy and then think, “meh I could have paid a little more for something better.” It depends though. I definitely prefer high end though to be honest.

7. Who’s your makeup icon?
I don’t have one to be honest. I am my own makeup icon. 😉

8. How do your prep beauty wise for a first date?
I used to just put on a bit of primer, translucent finishing powder, and usually Rebel lipstick by MAC as it was my favourite when it came to dating. However, on my second date with Dane I wore zero make up, because that is me. I don’t wear make up, so why do myself up all the time?

9. Is there a certain perfume you wear that brings back a memory?
Angel by Thierry Muglar. It reminds me of my childhood. I remember when my mom first bought this and I loved the smell of it. It reminded me of her and holidays. She bought me a bottle of my own when I was a teenager and since then I have bought my own bottle and had it refilled once. I don’t actually wear this as much as I used to, but I still adore it. It’s one of my favourite scents. The same can be said for Alien by Thierry Muglar too, which reminds me of Dane. I wore it on our first date together and he commented saying how lovely I smelt. I wear it for every anniversary we’ve had so far together too. He always says how it remembers it from our first date and that really makes me smile. 🙂

10. Whats the best bit of beauty advise you got and who gave you it?
Probably everything my mom has ever told me! Never to pluck my eyebrows is my main one. I have big, thick full eyebrows and everyone teased me for it when I was growing up. Now people are jealous because they don’t have any. 😛

Now here are the questions that Kirsty came up with for us to answer! 😀

1. If you had to choose one product you couldn’t live without for the rest of your life what would it be?

Definitely lip balm. I love having soft lips and even if I couldn’t have a lipstick to wear I would still want a nice tinted lip balm of course. My Korres Lip Butter to be precise.

2. What is your favourite “go to” blush product?

I don’t wear blush… :’)

3. Do you follow a specific skincare routine either day/ night or both and what products do you use?

I follow a really specific skincare routine most days. I wash my face, apply toner, eye gel, moisturiser, primer, translucent powder, clear brow gel, lip balm, and a lipstick or gloss. 🙂

4. What do you think of the current liquid lipstick trend?

I FUCKING LOVE IT! I am definitely a liquid lipstick addict. 😛

5. Have you discovered any new/ different beauty brands recently?

I’ve recently purchased my first NYX goodies! Two lip glosses to be exact and I love them so much. I want to buy more. WAH! 😛

6. How do you apply your base products, do you prefer to use your fingers, beauty blender, brush or another applicator?

I apply my primer with my fingers. I don’t see the point in using a brush. I do of course use a powder brush to apply my translucent powder.

7. What is your favourite eyeshadow palette, past or present?

I don’t use eyeshadow anymore sadly. I never owned one either when I did wear eye make up. My favourite eyeshadows were by MAC Cosmetics, and Barry M. One palette I wanted for years was the Aquataenia by Lime Crime… But let’s not discuss Lime Crime here… 😛

8. Do you have a nostalgic beauty product that you would always use in your younger years?

Miss Sporty clear mascara, which I still use to this day on my eyebrows!

9. Your favourite high-end product?

MAC Cosmetics lipstick, specifically the shade Rebel.

10. What is your favourite eyeliner product and do you have any tips to achieving the perfect winged liner?

I don’t wear eyeliner, but one of the best I tried was by Collection 2000. 🙂 I don’t have any tips either I’m afraid… Sorry.

So that was the beauty blogger tag! I’m so pleased that Kirsty tagged me into this as I haven’t been tagged for quite a long time, and due to that I feel loved. ^_^

I tag everyone who reads this to give it a go! I won’t make up any of my own questions as I’m crap at stuff like that. 😛

Make sure to let me know in the comments down below if you give it a go yourselves.

Until next time, take care all and have a lovely week.

May ’16 Wish List

Hello May, we’re nearly halfway through the year! Surely you aren’t due yet? Oh, what? You are? Oh right. I’m hoping that May will bring plenty of awesome things, as well as some better weather considering there has been some snow!

I am going to try to continue with a spending ban, only buying things I actually need, and every two months I’ll treat myself to some Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks. Woop woop!

There are more clothes on here than I imagined there would be, and there would be even more if I had included the Star Wars clothing Hot Topic have just come out with! I’ll save that for another day.

  • L’Occitane Almond Velvet Hands SPF15 – £18.00 (link)

I mentioned a few days ago on my April favourites how I love L’Occitane’s hand creams, and when I found out they were bringing a new version out of the Almond one, I was even more excited. This one is a little different as it includes SPF15, and it’s said to leave your hands looking smooth, and basically not old. 😛 My hands look haggard lately due to my eczema flaring up, so I imagine this hand cream would help them look a little more youthful. I would love it for the summer. Plus who can say no to the lovely light pink tube!?

  • M&S Denim Playsuit – was £ 39.50 now £19.75 (link)

I wouldn’t really describe this as a playsuit, more of a pair of short dungarees… I love them! I’ve seen them when popping through my local M&S and they do look really good quality. They’re currently in their sale, which is how I discovered that their price had gone down. I think I might try to pick these up soon as I would wear them to death in the summer. I’d team them up with a geeky t-shirt, tights, and my Jake Dr Martens. I’d look proper geeky and everything! 😛

  • Fujifilm Instax Share Printer – £129.00 (link)

I have a cool and funky DIY idea in mind which I want to do soon, and I need this awesome printer to do it with! I want to make a photo frame where there is string inside, with pegs attached onto it, and on the pegs I would attach pictures of me and Dane, but Polaroid  ones of course! This isn’t cheap, but considering you can print any pictures you want, it’s pretty nifty. I don’t know when I’ll get this, as it’s pretty expensive. But nonetheless I would love it at some point in the future.

  • PuppyCat Wallet – £34.99 (link)

I love Bee and PuppyCat, both the show, as well as the comic book! So when I found this wallet on Amazon a couple of months ago I instantly fell in love with it. I don’t need a new wallet, and to be honest I don’t wish to replace mine anytime soon but this one is just too cute not have in the future. I’ll be keeping my eye on it as a treat, or a gift idea. I like when people buy me wallets… I don’t know why.

  • MAC Cosmetics Versicolour Stain in shade Resilient Rose – £20.00 (link)

I have been pretty excited for these coming out since they were announced, and when I recently popped to my local MAC counter I decided to swatch a couple of the shades, including this one. I loved the other shades I checked out, but this cherry red won me over! I won’t be buying this anytime soon due to how expensive this is, but fingers crossed in the future that I can pick it up as a treat. I’d apply it over a lip liner or on its own. This isn’t as long-lasting as a liquid lipstick, but the stain it left behind on the back of my hand didn’t wash off properly for a few days, which was a good sign for me!

  • Hot Topic Studio Ghibli Spirited Away No-Face Girls Sweater – was $44.50 now $33.37 (link)

I have been in love with this jumper for a long time, since seeing someone on my Instagram wearing it! I nearly ordered it at the start of my holiday last month when I felt like crap, but left it due to wanting to save money. I love Spirited Away, it’s definitely my favourite Studio Ghibli movie, so what better than a jumper with No Face on, eh? I’ll definitely buy this in the future, and team it up with leggings, and my Jake Dr Martens to really geek it up.

  • Pokemon TCG Mythical Pokemon Collection: Mew – £29.94 (link)

I used to play the Pokemon trading card game when I was growing up, and I loved it! I soon stopped mind the older I got. Over the past couple of years I’ve wanted to take it back up again and play with people, but alas as of yet I haven’t… Although now that Pokemon have brought out the mythical collection’s, I want to start the old hobby up more than ever! These aren’t cheap though, and considering there’s 12 to come out in total this year… I could be pretty poor if I do take the plunge and get them. Oh woe.

  • Killstar Bad Habits Dress – £34.99 (link)

I’ve always lusted after clothing by Killstar. They’re very gothic looking, and beautiful, so right up my street pretty much! I have a dress similar to this that I’ve owned since I was 20 but that’s starting to see its last days now, and I’d love an upgrade! I’ll be keeping my eye on it in the future for a naughty purchase.

  • BB-8 Droid by Sphero – £129.99 (link)

I’ve wanted this adorable BB-8 since it was announced before Christmas, but alas I don’t own it yet. I can get this £100 brand new which is awesome, but even so if I was to buy this for myself, it would be a very expensive and luxurious gift to myself. I know Dane wants this too, so at some point soon we could buy it and split it. Maybe as a treat to ourselves in June for our third anniversary together? We shall see!

Those are some of the items I am lusting after for May. I am pretty sure I have missed things, but as I cannot think of them right now they’ll have to be missing until June now, which I’m sure will be here before I know it!

What do you have on your wish lists for May? Make sure to let me know in the comments down below!

Until next time all, take care and I hope everyone is having a great week.

Perfect Berry Shades For Winter – Guest Post

When Natalee said she was looking for some guest writers for her blog while she was on holiday, I jumped at the chance. Not only because she’s wonderful, but because it’s nice to write about something not related to my mental health! I write about my life with borderline personality disorder, you see – and it can get heavy at times with such a serious topic at hand. So it’s a nice change to write about something fun! Plus, I LOVE MAKE-UP. I really do. So I wanted to take this opportunity to write about it!

But first, a little story. I got married a few weeks ago, and my colour scheme involved rich berry tones along with purples and ivory. November is a month of change with autumn going into winter, the crisp colours of browns and golds going into plums and silvery whites, and being the totally non-traditional woman that I am, I was never going to be a traditional bride. I wanted colour to be a part of my look, I didn’t want to be all dressed in white. So, I took a part of my colour scheme and brought it into my look for the day… which brings me to this post!

As well as berry coloured shoes and sash on my dress to go with the berry coloured buttons in my handmade bouquet, I decided to be bold and wear a berry-toned lipstick. It wasn’t an easy decision. Here, I’m going to give you a rundown of my top five berry-toned lipsticks for winter, ending with the one I ended up wearing for my big day! So, without further ado…

Image taken from MAC Cosmetics website

  1. MAC lipstick in Rebel – £15.50 from maccosmetics.co.uk

I have Natalee to thank for this classic making its way into my lipstick collection. On the site, it’s described as a ‘midtonal cream plum’ and it is seriously flattering on any skin tone. It does look more purple-toned on me, which wasn’t quite right for the wedding, but it did end up being worn by my bridesmaid! The Husband calls it my ‘going to war’ lipstick, as I always seem to wear it when I need that bit of confidence to get me through anything – and it seriously works. It is gorgeous, it feels amazing on the lips, and it smells heavenly and lasts for ages even without primer or liner. I usually have to remove it with baby oil as it always leaves a stain! Really worth the money and definitely a staple for the make-up bag.

Image taken from Rimmel London Cosmetics website

  1. Rimmel The Only 1 lipstick in One of a Kind – £6.99 from Boots

The first ever lipstick I bought back in college was Rimmel Lasting Finish in Amethyst Shimmer. It probably would’ve looked fine on me, had I not insisted on the dark eye make-up along with it. Rimmel are touting this as a ‘lipstick revolution’ and while I usually guffaw at such statements, they have a right to brag. The quality is astounding, especially given the low cost and brand. It felt amazing on the lips, really creamy and soft, but it lasted a lot longer than expected from such a comfortable lipstick. The colour is a much more red-toned berry than Rebel, and I definitely will be rocking it over the winter months!

Image taken from Max Factor website

  1. Max Factor Colour Elixir lipstick in Mulberry – £7.99 from Boots

I’m a huge fan of Max Factor. I swear by their mascara and foundation primer, and when I discovered their Colour Elixir lipsticks, I fell in love. Another creamy lipstick with added benefits – ‘A blend of 60% emollients, conditioners and antioxidants including vitamin E’ according to the Boots website. Mulberry is a vampy, dark shimmery shade that says “I’m here to party, and I will get off with that bloke I’ve fancied for ages because I am a goddess of the night.”

…or something like that, anyway.

With the added pampering benefits for your lips, I would definitely recommend it for the winter months when we could all do with a little help against the elements. And Christmas parties. Go get ‘em, tiger.

Image taken from Clinique website

  1. Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer in Love Pop – £16 from Boots

There is a shade of this called Berry Pop which is very dark, which I imagine will be stunning for the season, but looked far too dark on me. The selling point of this lipstick is that you don’t need to wear primer underneath for it to stay on. A nice idea… but I didn’t think it worked out too well. However, with primer and liner, it upped the game. Love Pop is a soft, pink-toned berry which gives a very romantic look and is extremely wearable. It also feels amazing. I am a fan of this product, so much so that I have since purchased two more shades!

And in the number one spot, which made it to my face on my wedding day…

Image taken from Feel Unique website

  1. Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon in Napa Vineyard – £8.99 from feelunique.com

PERFECT. WEDDING. COLOUR. I have seen people raving about these little crayons on reddit, and I can see why! The colour payoff is phenomenal, it feels just like a lip balm, and the finish is a very fashionable matte. It went perfectly with the colours we had, and it made me feel so glamourous and just finished the look in the way I wanted it to. The only downside is that it wasn’t very long lasting, even with primer and liner, but you know what? It looked perfect and I hope in the final photos you’ll be able to see just how much it made my final look.

So, there you have it! Thanks Nat for letting me write this for you, and I hope your readers go out and get their berry on – seriously, it’s a colour that looks good on everyone, and will never let you down.

If you’re interested in my blog about life with borderline personality disorder (BPD), visit me at http://allmouthnospoons.wordpress.com. I can also be found tweeting nonsense at http://twitter.com/MouthAndSpoons.

A huge thanks to Claire for writing this post up for me on such short notice! It’s the first of many guest posts that will be on my blog over the next month, which is pretty damn exciting! I love all the lipsticks she spoke about, especially Rebel which is by far my favourite lipstick. Which shades did you love? Make sure to leave Claire some love in the comments down below!

Until next time all, take care and see you when I’m back from holiday (I’ve officially been here a day now!)

July Favourites 2015

Wow hello August, where did you come from? July went by super quick and I was sad about it passing by so quickly, what with London and everything. It’s also been a stressful month money wise. It’s been a real mix match of good and bad, and I can safely say I’m happy to have August upon us. I really want this month to be the start of a new start for me.

Throughout July I’ve loved loads of products, but I can only really talk about five… So it was tough to only pick this many!

  • Aussie Shower Gel in Shower Smoothie.

I bought this shower gel whilst it was on offer, and I also wanted to pick it up for when I went to London. It smells so yummy, just like the shampoo, a very unique scent, and a gorgeous one at that! I haven’t used this loads, but for how much I did use it, I know I’ve loved using it the times I did last month. It’s creamy, lathers up beautifully, and just smells gorgeous. It also leaves me feeling soft and smooth after use too, which is always a bonus. From memory this is the only shower gel that smells like the shampoo… But don’t quote me! I picked up the big bottle on offer for £2, so I recommend stocking up on these whilst they’re on offer, as whilst they’re amazing shower gels and worth every penny, nearly £5.00 for a shower gel that isn’t a high brand is a bit cheeky…

  • Tarte Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder.

I stopped using this a couple of months back as for some reason the screw on the pot went funny, and so did the filter area too so I grew too paranoid to use it. As my MAC finishing powder is coming to an end, I decided I would start using this again, and I’m so glad I did because I forgot how damn amazing it is! This is a light finishing powder that really does go a long way, and leaves my skin looking matte and oil free. I don’t even need to top this up either throughout the day, which is great of course. The only problem with it is the packaging, but I think I just got a dodgy pot, sad to say.

  • EOS Lip Balm in Blueberry Acai.

I’ve owned this lip balm well over a year (which I doubt is a good thing!) and I loved it when I first picked it up… But I soon began to fall out of love with it and the hype behind EOS soon disappeared. However I’ve started using it again recently during pole dancing classes, whenever I just need to pop out the house quickly to run some errands, and especially before bed. This stuff alongside The Body Shop’s Lip Butter in Coconut has really helped my lips recently. I seem to be getting a lot of cold sores, which sucks but these have both really helped. I especially love the scent and taste of this lip balm. EOS really aren’t worth all the hype, nor the price but they do the job and are cute to pull out of your handbag when out on the go.

  • Marc Jacobs EDP in Oh, Lola!.

I bought this perfume a year ago in Bristol and whenever I use it, it always reminds me of there. This is also a must have scent for summer as it’s fruity, yet a warming scent. It’s definitely one I would have lived in during my teen years. It’s a light scent too, which makes it perfect for evenings out with friends. I took it to London with me and wore it loads when out and about, especially in the evening when we went to see The Book of Mormon. It’s just been a handbag staple whilst the weather has been nice. I think this was a limited edition perfume too, as I was having a look for it recently online and hardly any retailers sell it now, which makes me sad.

  • MAC Lipstick in Pink Pearl Pop.

A new MAC lipstick, yes and it was a bargain at £5.50! I bought this from a blog sale recently and it’s been one of my wish list MAC items for a couple of years now. I was worried when I first applied it to my lips that it was too bright for my skin tone, but since the first wear I have delightfully discovered it’s the perfect shade for me and a staple for summer! I’m hoping to go away on holiday again in November/December so this will probably be my go to shade when I go!

So those were my favourites for July! What products did you love using last month? Make sure to let me know in the comments below.

Until next time all, take care and here’s to another month!

MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus Lipstick – Review

I haven’t written a review for a while and I especially haven’t written a MAC review. However today I have a special new MAC lipstick to talk about. Yes, as the title reads it is infact the newest addition to the Viva Glam family, Miley Cyrus.

I knew as soon as this was announced in October, I would want it in my life. I can’t say I am the biggest fan of Miley Cyrus (even though I do have two of her songs on my iPod…) but I think her first shade out of two has been one of the best Viva Glam celebrity shades for a long time.

I should be saving money but I thought I would treat myself to this after discovering I have passed my first semester of my MA, which I was anxious as hell about! Besides, I recently sold my Viva Glam Nicki lipstick so the money I got for that went towards this. 😛

Due to this being a Viva Glam product it’s a part of the MAC Aids Fund and the full price paid for all the Viva Glam lipsticks is donated to this charity, which goes towards helping women, men and children everywhere affected by HIV and AIDS.

Viva Glam Miley Cyrus is also limited edition, but I’m sure it’ll be around for a year yet when a new celebrity will be getting ready to release their first collaboration with MAC. Of course there will be another shade out by Miley Cyrus yet, which I’m excited about but I’m pretty sure it’ll be a red shade.

Now all that information is out there, I’m going to get down to the finer details of this gorgeous lipstick.

MAC describes Viva Glam Miley Cyrus as:

Miley Cyrus’s shade of VIVA GLAM Lipstick. Her super-sexy hot pink hue in M∙A∙C’s iconic Lipstick formula. Limited-edition packaging features Miley’s signature.

The finish is an amplified creme, which I’ve never owned before until now and I can say it is a gorgeous finish that I want to experience again in the future.

As the description for this lipstick states, it comes in the classic black bullet but instead of silver, its red, which is for MAC’s Aids Fund. As well as that, like all Viva Glam celebrity lipsticks, inside Miley Cyrus’s signature can be found across the red of the bullet. As I did with my Viva Glam Nicki lipstick, I really love the look of the red and black as a change to the classic silver and black.

As for the colour of this lipstick the bullet does look really bright and it might be a tad frightening to someone who doesn’t have much confidence when wearing bright shades, but seriously, it isn’t that bright.

I’ve only owned this since Valentine’s Day, but the day before I tested it out from MAC and it lasted AGES! But since buying this I’ve worn it loads and even have it on today. Due to this being an amplified finish it might not last as long as a satin or a matte finish, but if you use a lip liner, blot and reapply this it’ll last ages, which is exactly what I’ve been doing when wearing it.

For a first time user of amplified finish I’ve not had a problem at all! The lipstick feels creamy and glides onto the lips with ease. I found that you can apply this as lightly or heavily as you wish to and due to this the colour payoff can either be light, or when applied heavy it can build up the colour and be a really shocking, hot pink.

The lipstick leaves behind a light pink stain, which looks perfect.

I’ve done both and loved it, it means you can rock a mild pink stain shade in the daytime and a strong, bold, hot pink in the evenings! Or vice versa of course.

If I want to keep the colour going whilst out and about but don’t wish to reapply it, I found a dab of lip balm does do the trick, especially if it’s got a hint of pink as it helps keep the pink colour of the lipstick bright and strong.

I think this shade will work for everyone as it’s a perfect go to hot pink! Whether you’re pale, mid tone, or dark toned, it’ll look gorgeous on you! I’m yellow toned and I find that this suits me really nicely, and especially as I like my dark and bold shades this is definitely going to be a go to shade for me. It really does remind me of the lip colour that Barbie would go for and I have a feeling this is what Miley Cyrus was aiming for.

Like all the MAC lipsticks this has its standard vanilla scent, and smells just like sugary doughnuts. When I wore this to pop out and run some errands, it actually reminded me of marshmallows and every time I’ve worn it since I have thought about marshmallows and how much I crave them! Thanks MAC!

L-R: Lickable, Speak Louder and Viva Glam Miley Cyrus Flash used.

L-R: Lickable, Speak Louder and Viva Glam Miley Cyrus. No flash, natural light (which was crap due to it being late at night!)

For comparison to some other pink MAC lipsticks I’ve swatched Viva Glam Miley Cyrus next to MAC Lickable (review) and MAC Speak Louder (review).

I already love this lipstick and think before it is taken off of the shelves, I’ll possibly re purchase so I make sure to have a back up for the future. This is just a perfect go to pink lipstick.

This retails for £15.50 from MAC and whilst I usually try and pick up my MAC lipsticks for cheap, I didn’t get this one at a bargain.

You can also pick up the matching lip glass, which I intend to do in the future as when I swatched it it was so beautiful! Very pigmented and would work lovely not just over the top of the lipstick, but on its own during hot summer days too.

I think this will be perfect to wear all year around, especially in the summer in the evenings when going out with friends. I intend to wear this to uni a lot as well, as it’s just so nice to apply.

For some reason recently I’ve really neglected wearing my MAC lipsticks and I have honestly missed wearing them. I think March will be the start of me wearing them more, as they are such amazing lipsticks and by far some of the best ones out there.

I’m hoping to try and get some more MAC reviews on my blog soon, as I know I have a couple of lipstick shades left to review.

What do you think of Viva Glam Miley Cyrus? Have you picked it up yet? Do you intend to? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time, take care and I hope you all had a lovely Valentine’s Day.

February Wish List

I’m going to be honest and say that I’m trying to save money at the moment as my holiday wasn’t the cheapest in the world and I want to try and get my savings back as soon as I can! This being said I’m probably going to buy crap I don’t need now I’ve been paid… In fact it’s the weekend now so as this is live on my blog, I’ve probably already spent some of my money. Oh dear.

So this is basically a list of things I want and will possibly buy if I want a treat.

  • Lush Prince Charming Shower Gel.

The new Valentine’s Day range is now out at Lush and sadly it’s only there now until Saturday and then it’ll be gone for another year. I’ve already picked this shower gel up but it was definitely on my wish list before I did. This is a gorgeous pink shower gel that smells of fresh pomegranate and grapefruit and of warm vanilla and marshmallow. What more do you want from a shower gel, eh? This also keeps the skin lovely and clean, as well as smelling sweet and feeling soft. Perfect for Valentine’s Day as a treat for yourself, or for someone else. I never liked the smell of this shower gel last year and I thought the hype for it was daft. Personally I still don’t see why it’s so hyped but it does smell nice. I’m going to see if I’ll pick up another bottle, or even a larger bottle as whilst it is nice, it isn’t THAT nice and Lush have brought out better smelling shower gels. Even so if you want to try this, pick up on of their smaller bottles. It’s well worth the money!

  • Pokemon Center Eevee Mobile Phone Ear Jack Strap.

As regular readers will know, I love Pokemon and I especially love Eevee and the Eeveelutions. I would love a cute dangly accessory for my phone as if you know me, I’m always on my phone. Whether I’m texting, doing stuff relating to my blog, Twitter, etc. I’ll be on my phone! So why not having something cute dangling from it eh? You can get these sent to the UK pretty cheap, as Pokemon Center’s are mainly located in Japan. If I buy this it’ll only be as a cheer me up treat as it won’t be cheap to get this over to me (over £10) and I’m trying to watch my money at the moment. Definitely worth the splurge though, I love Pokemon!

  • Logitech Bluetooth Multi-Device Keyboard K480.

I noticed this whilst I was away on holiday in an electrical shop and briefly had a look at it. Since then I’ve read a couple of reviews on blogs about it and I REALLY want it for my iPad. It would mean no more needing my laptop all the time, I could actually use this keyboard to do my uni work, blog posts, whatever I wanted! It isn’t cheap at £50, but it would be totally worth it! You can also use this with your phone too, which I think is pretty good. You can get this in black or white, I rather like the black with the yellow on it. The keyboard does remind me of a typewriters keyboard which I think is pretty nifty!

  • Eeveelutions Charm Bracelet.

I’ve only recently started to look on Etsy as my friend Gabriella uses it and I really have found some lovely little bits and pieces on there that I want. It’s mostly Eeveelution items but that’s because it can be hard to pick things up like this over in the UK. Unless you ship them in any way. I don’t really need a new bracelet as I have my two Pandora ones, but I think that this looks too cute to resist! I probably wouldn’t even use the bracelet that much, I guess I would want the charms to pop on a keyring and keep that on my keys. I just think these look incredibly cute and who could resist?

  • Pokemon Alpha Sapphire for 3DS.

Since this came out before Christmas, I’ve been lusting after it and I nearly bought the Spanish version whilst I was on holiday, but ending up leaving it. Alas I’ve now started to play Pokemon X again and getting ready to try and complete the Pokedex on it. As soon as I do that, I’ll be treating myself to this version. I never played the original Ruby and Sapphire, so it would be nice to play and see what the story is all about.

  • Lush Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar.

Another Lush product I’ve actually bought since putting this wish list together, but I haven’t yet used it. It looks so beautiful and it’s definitely one of my favourite Valentine’s Day products to come out from Lush since the Ex Factor Bath Bomb (back from 2010!) so in five years I’ve been waiting for something good to come out, and finally I have it! Unicorn Horn looks so pretty, various different colours, a bit of shimmer and some candy stars. Can’t go wrong with that, eh? As well as that it also smells faintly of lavender, which I really like. It’ll be nice to use in the evenings to wind down before bed. I’m going to try and pick some more of these up before they go away after Saturday as I can see me loving these for after university.

  • MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus Lipstick and Lipglass.

In October MAC and Miley Cyrus announced their collaboration and the beauty world went mental! Including myself, and as soon as swatches came out of the new lipstick and glass, I knew I wanted to be one of the first to see. Both the lipstick and the glass are hot pink and gorgeous for when summer comes around. I love hot pink shades and own a couple already, but as these would be going to a good cause, I wouldn’t mind getting some “dupes”. The swatches of these are amazing and I can’t wait for them to come out in store so I can swatch it for myself. I don’t know if I’ll buy the lipstick, the gloss, or even both! The gloss would make a nice change, but I couldn’t see myself using it all that much. I will have to wait and see what I think. But with the collaboration I think it’ll work out really nicely! I can imagine Miley’s second shade being red.

So that was my wish list for this month! What’s on your wish list for February? Let me know in the comments down below.

Sorry for this post being late, but better late than never eh?

Until next time, take care all!

2014’s Top 10 Favourites

Image taken from weheartit.com

This is a post that is long overdue, and I’m finally getting the time to write it! As regular readers will know I’ve been away on holiday the past two weeks so any posts I usually have up on my blog at the start of each month, haven’t really been there this month. Great start to the year eh?

But better late than never eh?

I’m going to show my top ten favourites from the year and there might be a few from 2013, but I don’t care. If it’s a good product, I’m mentioning it!

  • Garnier Pure Active Wasabi Fresh Face Scrub.

I’ve mentioned this on my favourites in the past and it has definitely been a great scrub to add to my bathroom in 2014! It’s actually for men, but this works perfectly on my female, sensitive skin so I’m not complaining. My boyfriend uses this too and I noticed a dramatic change in his skin, so it isn’t just me who noticed how good it is. This isn’t the cheapest scrub but I’ve owned this for months now, I use it twice a week and it’s still lasting me ages. There is also a face wash to go with the scrub but I won’t be trying it, maybe my boyfriend will in the future. Since using this scrub I’ve noticed any dry patches on my face have vanished and any signs of blackheads have dramatically evaporated. I highly recommend this scrub, even if you have sensitive skin like I do.

  • Lush Comforter Bubble Bar.

I love Lush, regular readers will know this. I bought this bubble bar for the first time months ago when I went to Bristol for mine and my boyfriends first anniversary and it’s safe to say I have fallen in love with it. I’d always smelt it in the shop and loved it’s replica smell of Ribena but as soon as I eyed the price I left it. I regret never buying it until 2014 as this bubble bar lasts ages! The scent is so strong that you only need a little chunk and it’ll go a long way. I’ve found myself getting a good six baths out of one bar, some may prefer to use the whole bar in one bath or two halves to make two baths but I’m quite stingy with my Lush products and I like to make them last. This is really good for the skin and not only does it leave me feeling nice and soft, but it leaves me smelling gorgeous too! I love using this on days where I’m having a lazy day in the house and want a pick me up. It’s also nice to use before you go to sleep as when you get under the covers you can smell it for ages. This is definitely going to be a bath staple for me now.

  • Easy Nails Fast & Fruity Nail Polish Remover.

This is by far one of the best nail polish remover pots I have ever used and that includes Bourjois too. Bourjois nail polish remover pot was the first one I tried and for how much it cost, I was incredibly disappointed. I’ve recently got it back out of my nail polish drawer to try and use up as I’m sick of the sight of it now. For less than a £1 you can pick up the Easy Nails pot and it does a hell of a lot more than the Bourjois one has ever done. I pop my finger in, twist it back and forth ten times and I’ll pull it out as clean as the nail was before I applied the polish on the nail. I stock up on these as soon as my current one feels dry. With glitter nail polish I don’t find it works as well as the aluminum foil technique does (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, Google it. But I will write about this technique very soon) but I don’t want it to get rid of glitter polish. It’s just so great to use and quick too. I wish I had taken one on holiday with me as it would have come in handy when I painted my nails there.

  • The Body Shop Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet.

I’ve written a review for this before and whilst I’ve now replaced this with Clinique, I still loved it in 2014 and would be lying if I said otherwise. This was perfect during the summer and my prayers were answered when it came out as it was boiling outside and this really did cool me down. As well as that it left my skin feeling super moisturised and feeling soft. This was rumoured to have some sort of matte texture to it, but I didn’t really notice that myself. I took this on holiday with me and it really did keep my skin feeling cool, soft as well as feeling good in the evenings. This is great to use both in summer and winter but I do find the benefits of the cooling sensation work a hell of a lot better when the weather is warmer. If you want to read more about this, definitely check out the review for it!

  • Carmex Moisturising Lip Balm.

Another product I’ve reviewed  and used time and time again. I’m currently using it as it’s my go to lip balm whilst I’m in the house. I first tried this after attending VintSetFest and this was in my goodie bag. I’d heard nothing but good things about Carmex but never really thought to use them before but now I love them! I even bought the strawberry flavour not long after getting the original one, which I haven’t loved as much but it’s still good and what I used whilst I was on holiday. I probably won’t buy another one of these for a while just because I want to use my current lip balms up, but I think the next one I will try out will either be cherry or mint.

  • The Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector.

I’ve mentioned this hand cream many times and a year later I’m still using the same tube! This tube really is huge and a little bit of this hand cream does go a long way. As this one is for dry to very dry skin it’s perfect for when my hands begin to show signs of eczema and so far my hands haven’t had any issues… Well apart from when I landed in the UK from my holiday, my one knuckle split. Hello cold weather, much? I use this before I head out and whilst I’m out and about, as I often use other hand creams in the house. I definitely recommend this hand cream to anyone who suffers with eczema like myself.

  • MAC Lipstick in Goddess of the Sea.

This is the last MAC lipstick I bought and it’s definitely one of my favourites. It’s a gorgeous purple shade and is cremesheen so it not only lasts ages but looks slightly glossy too. I can’t wait to try this underneath my new Estee Lauder lip liner as I’m sure it’ll look beautiful. I have used it with a dark purple lip liner and it looks really dark and gothic, which I rather like. I especially love the packaging for this due to the water effect, something I am a huge nerd of (I love water!) so this appealed a lot when I went to buy it. I don’t wear this shade as much as I do with some of my MAC lipsticks because it’s limited edition. I think if I find it somewhere cheap I’ll definitely buy myself a back up.

  • Viktor & Rolf BonBon EDP.

Since the start of 2014 when bloggers started to announce the release of these and tell us all the notes and how yummy it smelt I was excited. So when it finally came out in the UK and on the shelves to test out and buy, I gave it a sniff as soon as I could. I fell in love with it, but however I didn’t fall in love with the price and for ages I put off buying it. However before I went to uni I decided it was time to use the points I earn at work to use to buy this, so this cost me NOTHING, not a single penny! I took this on holiday with me and was lovely to wear on days when I wanted something light, but powerful enough to last all evening. If you haven’t smelt this yet, please make sure to as it’s not like anything that is out there at the moment, plus the bottle is adorable.

  • Macadamia No Tangle Brush.

I’ve owned this brush over a year now and it’s by far the best brush I have ever owned. I got it for £10 at VintSetFest and since then I’ve not replaced it, although I do need to buy another one asap as this one is getting a little battered now. It’s a no tangle brush, as the title states so it helps me to brush my long hair without ripping, causing damage, or causing any pain to myself. It also feels really nice to use due to the soft bristles. I especially like that this has a handle as it’s easier to hold and means I can have control whilst brushing my hair, unlike brushes like Tangle Teezer’s. I definitely recommend this brush over the Tangle Teezer.

  • OPI Nail Lacquer in How Is Your Dane?

This is by far my favourite nail polish by OPI that I own and there’s a couple of reasons why. First of all the name, which is shared by my boyfriend, who is called Dane. I of course love the shade too, which is a beautiful chocolate-brown shade with a gel like finish. I was going to wear this on holiday but decided against it incase it got ruined due to the heat, or any other reasons. This is definitely the perfect polish to wear throughout autumn and winter, but will be nice to wear throughout all of the year. I like to wear it with glitter nail polish, as well as with a matte top coat to give it a different finish.

So those are my top ten favourite products from 2014! There are already so many more things I’ve found for my top ten for 2015 already.

Until next time, take care all.
