Barry M Molten Metals Nail Paint in Holographic Nights – Review

Oh man I have fast turned into a holographic queen and years ago when I wanted holographic goodies they were never available, which sucked! It’s a nice change that now there’s a little more on the high street, both fashion and beauty.

Recently Barry M got onto the holographic nail craze that has been around forever in the Indie world. People have only just recently gotten into the craze…

Alongside the new shades they recently added to their Molten Metals collection, they included Holographic Nights, a silver holographic shade. People have gone crazy for it, including myself and I couldn’t wait to pick it up recently.

I heard of it coming out back in February but I completely forgot about it until last week when I was in Boots. I picked it up on their 2 for £7 offer with another Molten Metals polish. As soon as I got home I took off my previous nail polish and stuck this one on! I knew I had to review it a few days later, I haven’t fallen in love with a nail polish so much for quite a long time. I really hope you enjoy the review and find it helpful!

This isn’t the second holographic nail polish I have owned, the previous being by GOSH and is one that was limited edition at the time it was released. I’m going back years now and as bad as it sounds I still own it. It was a gorgeous polish and went on with one maybe two coats… But it peeled off hours later, which sucked! Since then I have wanted to get my hands on another holographic nail polish which wouldn’t do this. I haven’t 100% found it yet, but for a high street holographic polish this comes in pretty close.

First of all when I picked this up in Boots I thought I had picked up the silver shade in this collection. They look very alike and I’ve read on social media how loads of people have made this mistake and been disappointed. This was a surprise for me to be honest as you would think the rainbow of the holographic would be obvious, but alas it is not. It’s not very easy to see in the bottle unless in the right lighting. The same can also somewhat be said about when it’s on the nails too… But I’ll go into that in more detail.

One thing I love about the Molten Metals collection is how thick the brushes are for them all! It means you don’t need to keep applying loads of little coats with a thinner brush. Instead you only need one or two strokes of colour applied, which is great! I have small nails so this means I only need two or three max.

One coat

One coat

One coat

Two coats

One coat

Three coats

The pigmentation of the polish is amazing though to be honest and I found with 3 coats that I had a really good finish to my nails, which had that gorgeous holographic rainbow on show in the right light!

I found when applying this that you only need one generous dip into the bottle to get an even coverage on each nail. It’s not a thick formula and is pretty thin, but don’t let that fool you! This nail polish really does pack a punch. It also dries really quickly so applying those 3 coats went by really quickly!

I tried to apply it over a black nail polish at first to see if it showed off the rainbow colours better and if anything it made it worse, so applying straight to the nail was perfect.

I wore this for a week and during that week both me and Dane were working hard on the house and even went and visited some friends on their farm! Whilst I didn’t do any hard work the polish still lasted amazingly which I really happy about. This is without a base or a top coat by the way.

I also worried that this would be a bitch to remove due to the holographic side of it, but alas it was really easy to remove which I was really happy about!

I watch and read a lot of reviews on Indie brands and their holographic nail polishes and whilst Holographic Nights isn’t up to their standard it is absolutely amazing for a high street nail polish and it’s the first of it’s kind to do something so well! I know Boots Natural Collection used to have a holographic nail polish… (looks online to see if they still do…) I can’t actually work out if they do… Which is a shame!

Overall I love this nail polish so much and it’s definitely a shade people have been calling out for for quite some time now. It’s amazing that Barry M has opened the horizons for holographic shades. I really hope they see how much people want this and release more shades. I’d love to see a black holographic polish out next.

I just wish I could wear this for work now, it really sucks! I definitely already know I’ve found my nail polish for the whole year now, as well as for mine and Dane’s holiday. 😛

You can pick this up now in both Boots and Superdrug for £3.99 each, or 2 for £7 in Boots on the Molten Metals collection. If you’re really eager to get one do it quick as these sell out fast apparently.

Have you tried Holographic Nights yet? If so what did you think of it? Make sure to let me know in the comments!

Until next time take care all and I hope you’re all having a lovely weekend so far.

April Favourites ’17

Easter holidays are over, all the chocolate eggs have been sold or are still on sale in the shops, and Mini Eggs won’t be back until New Year… This is the saddest thing for me. I fucking love Mini Eggs! 😛

But we’re into May now and happy May Day! I’m off work for a change and I intend to spend the day doing sod all and chilling out with Dane. I might make us sausage and mash… Love it!

ANYWAY! With a new month of course comes my monthly posts, including my favourites. April was a funny month, but I discovered a lot of new items this month gone and luckily stuff I needed… Not just buying for the sake of it. 😛

  • Imperial Leather Marshmallow Shower Cream.

I’ve used this in the past and I’m pretty sure it has featured on my monthly favourites before. It being featured on here again just shows what an amazing product it is! I actually forgot how good it was until I recently started using it again. It smells beautiful and leaves your skin not only smelling yummy but feeling lovely and soft too. For only a £1 you cannot go wrong!

  • Vaseline Lip Therapy with Cocoa Butter.

It’s shit to admit but my lips are STILL bad. Well they appear to be on the mend now and better than before but still bad… Urgh. I finally got some decent answers from two doctors recently and was given the right treatments. Alongside using the treatment creams I’ve also been slathering on this Vaseline in between applications to keep my lips nice and moist… Ew I hate that word but it’s the only word I can use right now and it be accurate. This tub is for around the house, as I bought an aloe vera one for out on the go and for work. I don’t like that one as much as the cocoa butter though to be honest. I find the smell to be fresh, but that doesn’t apply when on the lips. I feel like the cocoa butter scent is lovely both in the jar and when applied to the lips. You can never go wrong with cocoa butter to be fair! I love this better than the original Vaseline though to be honest! 😀

  • Boots Essentials Cucumber Eye Gel.

I needed a new eye gel last month and wanted to make sure to get something that would cool my eyes whilst hydrating them throughout the day. I wouldn’t usually go for a low budget eye gel due to the whole, “It’s not going to do sod all…” but I thought for £1.50 it wouldn’t break the bank to give it a whirl! I hate eye creams and have always opted to buying gels if I can. This one is amazing and really does soothe and cool tired eyes either in the morning before work or after a long day in the evening. Either way I love this and I think I’ll end up buying another soon for mine and Dane’s holiday in September!

  • Barry M Molten Metal Nail Paint in shade Copper Mine.

When I was off work during April I decided to paint my nails as due to the job I do I’m not allowed to wear it whilst working. I have a couple of these Molten Metal polishes but this one is my favourite. I find the copper shade suits my yellow skin tone the best and it just looks gorgeous too. The formula is lovely and it lasts ages before chipping! Even whilst doing loads of work on the house last week it hardly chipped. This was without a top coat too! I’ll be reviewing these very soon as they deserve a review. I plan to get myself the new holographic shade that recently came out. These are on 2 for £7 at the moment so I’ll be getting that and another shade.

  • Radox Feel Heavenly Bath Soak with Coconut & Milk.

Finally we have a bubble bath on my monthly favourites. I still use my Lush products, don’t get me wrong but more often than not I find if I overuse them it actually causes more harm to my body than good. That and I try to make my money last at the moment. ANYWAY! This bath soak was bought on a whim that I wanted something nice and light to use on days off work and before bed. This is a gorgeous bubble bath where a little bit goes a long way, but I always add a generous amount to my bath to create LOADS of bubbles. I always find this leaves my skin lovely and soft after use. It’s amazing.

So now my beauty favourites are done, time to talk about the miscellaneous favourites of the month!

Favourite TV Show – Sirens (UK version).

This is a show I recently started to re-watch. It was out YEARS ago… (looks on Wikipedia) Holy shit 2011 was when this show first aired. I feel old. Very old. ANYWAY! As the title may give away this show is about 3 paramedics and it shows what they get up to during their shifts. It also shows a couple of members of the Police and Fire Service too. This is fiction I’ll have you know and is actually a comedy. I love it so much though, it just makes me laugh. There are some serious notes in it however and with that it does remind me of Only Fools and Horses. One moment it can be side splitting funny and the next bringing a tear to your eye. If you’ve never watched it and you fancy giving it a go then I think you’re only options now are going to be watching it online for free, or as a shitty YouTube upload. I’m being naughty and watching it online for free… Hey! I’d buy it if I could!

Favourite Film – Your Name (Kimi no Na wa).

Last month me and Dane went to go and watch this after he found out it was showing in the Mockingbird cinema in Birmingham’s Custard Factory. He booked it that day and that evening we were off to watch it. Oh my God it wasn’t even what I was expecting it to be to be honest. I knew what the basic plot was for the film but it has a lot of twists and such throughout the film. I don’t want to talk too in depth as I worry it could spoil the film for anyone who hasn’t seen it. You can watch a trailer here if you like the sound of it. BUT to be honest if you haven’t heard about it by now, whether you’re an anime fan or not then where have you been hiding? It keeps being spoken about how it’s the best anime film for quite some time. 😛

Favourite Book – K-ON!

As regular readers of my blog will know I have been reading nothing but manga since the start of the year and whilst it is an expensive thing to keep on top of, it is so damn worth it! I recently purchased all of the K-ON manga to read and whilst I am only somewhat through the series, I am in love with it. It’s just great to see some of my new favourite anime characters come to life on the pages of the manga as well as through the anime series. I’ll be reviewing in the future!

Favourite Songs – George Michael “Freedom! 90” and “Careless Whisper”.

This is kind of random I suppose but a few nights ago I just started listening to songs from the 00’s… Which led to songs from the 90’s and for some reason that then led me to listen to some of George Michael’s best singles. Of course he died at the end of last year which was a real shame. He was a talented guy in every way! I have always had a place for “Freedom! 90” and I don’t know why… I especially love the music video as I think it’s so clever, alongside the song as a dig at the music industry. 😛 Thanks to Deadpool now whenever I hear “Careless Whisper” I just think of Ryan Reynolds singing it at the end of the film. HA! 😛 BUT instead of popping either of the songs mentioned above I thought I would attach Seether’s cover of “Careless Whisper”. It’s amazing in my eyes and they did a really good job!

Favourite game – TsumTsum.

This is a game I have owned for as long as I’ve had my iPhone 6 to be honest… I remember when I went on holiday with my dad in November 2015 playing it whenever we were near a WiFi connection! ANYWAY… This is a game I have been playing nonstop this month and it’s one I always forget that I love to play. It’s a game that you can actually pay to play in Japan as an actual arcade game. I would love to play it like that! I’ve attached a video above of Sharla playing it! It’s just a great, free and relaxing game to play. It’s one of those where you need to match up 3 plus of the same Disney character to get rid of them, get a high score, coins etc. With those coins you can buy new characters etc. If you love Disney and love the Tsum Tsum’s then you’ll love this!

So those were my favourites from April! I can’t believe how quickly the year is going by though to be perfectly honest. Next month me and Dane will have been in our house for a year and I don’t know if I like that or if it scares me a little. Time is going wayyyyy too fast and I don’t think I like that. It also means next month marks our four year anniversary which IS exciting and I don’t mind that. 😛 It does feel like we’ve been together longer mind.

What products were you loving throughout April? Make sure to let me know in the comments down below.

Until next time take care all and I hope you have a lovely bank holiday Monday. I know I will be. 😛

Beauty Blogger Tag

some_text

Image taken from weheartit.com

Good morning, I hope you are all well! It is the start of a new week, and I can’t believe how quick May is going by already. Towards the end of April I was tagged by my wonderful friend and fellow blogger Kirsty over at Cosmetics Beauty Rainbow to take part in the beauty blogger tag. I felt loved, and it’s only now am I getting around to giving this tag a go myself!

1. What is your signature makeup style?
Well considering I only wear lipstick… A strong bold lip colour is always my signature look. Everyone always comments about how I wear dark shades like my reds, dark pinks, and purples. Can never say no to a Marilyn Monroe red shade, or a hot pink. My favourite lipstick brand to rock are Jeffree Star Cosmetics and MAC Cosmetics.

2. Have you ever made an embarrassing beauty blunder? And what was it?
Probably back in the day when I wore thick black eyeliner and eyeshadow! I was a total emo kid, and I thought it looked amazing. What annoys me is that I got bullied for my “panda eyes” and when I stopped wearing it, everyone started to rock it again! GRR! The same happened when I was in my early teens, I would wear blue lipstick and everyone picked on me. Now what is everyone wearing??? POINT PROVEN!

3. What is your favourite makeup brand?
MAC Cosmetics and Benefit for “high-end”.

Bourjois and NYX for “high street”.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics for “indie”.

4. When did you start wearing makeup?
When I was fourteen/fifteen I really started to experiment with make up. I rocked dark green, red, black, dark purple, and blue denim coloured eyeshadows with thick eyeliner. I didn’t wear much when it came to lip products… Probably a clear lip gloss.

5. Why did you start wearing makeup?
I think it was mostly based on what I would have seen in magazines, or on singers/celebrities. Avril Lavigne and Green Day were big inspirations on my make up when I was a teenager… Oh dear I was just an emo kid. 😛

6. Are you more high-end or high street (drugstore) when it comes to beauty products?
I’m a bit of both to be honest… I probably own more high-end than high street. A lot of my high street stuff I buy and then think, “meh I could have paid a little more for something better.” It depends though. I definitely prefer high end though to be honest.

7. Who’s your makeup icon?
I don’t have one to be honest. I am my own makeup icon. 😉

8. How do your prep beauty wise for a first date?
I used to just put on a bit of primer, translucent finishing powder, and usually Rebel lipstick by MAC as it was my favourite when it came to dating. However, on my second date with Dane I wore zero make up, because that is me. I don’t wear make up, so why do myself up all the time?

9. Is there a certain perfume you wear that brings back a memory?
Angel by Thierry Muglar. It reminds me of my childhood. I remember when my mom first bought this and I loved the smell of it. It reminded me of her and holidays. She bought me a bottle of my own when I was a teenager and since then I have bought my own bottle and had it refilled once. I don’t actually wear this as much as I used to, but I still adore it. It’s one of my favourite scents. The same can be said for Alien by Thierry Muglar too, which reminds me of Dane. I wore it on our first date together and he commented saying how lovely I smelt. I wear it for every anniversary we’ve had so far together too. He always says how it remembers it from our first date and that really makes me smile. 🙂

10. Whats the best bit of beauty advise you got and who gave you it?
Probably everything my mom has ever told me! Never to pluck my eyebrows is my main one. I have big, thick full eyebrows and everyone teased me for it when I was growing up. Now people are jealous because they don’t have any. 😛

Now here are the questions that Kirsty came up with for us to answer! 😀

1. If you had to choose one product you couldn’t live without for the rest of your life what would it be?

Definitely lip balm. I love having soft lips and even if I couldn’t have a lipstick to wear I would still want a nice tinted lip balm of course. My Korres Lip Butter to be precise.

2. What is your favourite “go to” blush product?

I don’t wear blush… :’)

3. Do you follow a specific skincare routine either day/ night or both and what products do you use?

I follow a really specific skincare routine most days. I wash my face, apply toner, eye gel, moisturiser, primer, translucent powder, clear brow gel, lip balm, and a lipstick or gloss. 🙂

4. What do you think of the current liquid lipstick trend?

I FUCKING LOVE IT! I am definitely a liquid lipstick addict. 😛

5. Have you discovered any new/ different beauty brands recently?

I’ve recently purchased my first NYX goodies! Two lip glosses to be exact and I love them so much. I want to buy more. WAH! 😛

6. How do you apply your base products, do you prefer to use your fingers, beauty blender, brush or another applicator?

I apply my primer with my fingers. I don’t see the point in using a brush. I do of course use a powder brush to apply my translucent powder.

7. What is your favourite eyeshadow palette, past or present?

I don’t use eyeshadow anymore sadly. I never owned one either when I did wear eye make up. My favourite eyeshadows were by MAC Cosmetics, and Barry M. One palette I wanted for years was the Aquataenia by Lime Crime… But let’s not discuss Lime Crime here… 😛

8. Do you have a nostalgic beauty product that you would always use in your younger years?

Miss Sporty clear mascara, which I still use to this day on my eyebrows!

9. Your favourite high-end product?

MAC Cosmetics lipstick, specifically the shade Rebel.

10. What is your favourite eyeliner product and do you have any tips to achieving the perfect winged liner?

I don’t wear eyeliner, but one of the best I tried was by Collection 2000. 🙂 I don’t have any tips either I’m afraid… Sorry.

So that was the beauty blogger tag! I’m so pleased that Kirsty tagged me into this as I haven’t been tagged for quite a long time, and due to that I feel loved. ^_^

I tag everyone who reads this to give it a go! I won’t make up any of my own questions as I’m crap at stuff like that. 😛

Make sure to let me know in the comments down below if you give it a go yourselves.

Until next time, take care all and have a lovely week.

Leighton Denny I Am Goddess High Performance Nail Colour Collection – Review

Although these are from Leighton Denny’s autumn/winter 2015 collection I recently picked them up from the M&S sale, as they were super cheap! I managed to pick up three, even though I only really wanted one or two. I will already state that online none of these shades are left to buy, but you may be in luck in store, like I was with two of these shades. You can still pick these up as well on the official Leighton Denny website (link here) but they’re still at the full retail price of £11.00.

So, on with the review!

Thanks to my mom, I discovered Leighton Denny a couple of years ago, but I haven’t as of yet owned any of his polishes until now, and boy was it worth the wait!

These are some of the nicest nail polishes I own, due to the quality of the nail polish, it’s lasting time, and of course the price! But I’ll go into detail about all those in this review.

 photo Photo 17-03-2016 10 45 42 am_zpstchtvytd.jpg

L-R : Aphrodite’s Love, Queen Hera, Athena Love

I picked up three of six shades from the collection:

Aphrodite’s Love – An olive cream with a metallic duo-chrome finish.

Queen Hera – A metallic gold with chrome finish.

Athena Divine – A deep, midnight blue with metallic shimmer.

For £11.00 you’re paying for 12ml bottle, with a high performance nail colour. I found with all of these I only needed two coats max to get a really good pay off. All the shades are really pigmented, which I was pleased about.

Lasting time on these was amazing too! Aphrodite’s Love is currently on my toes, and has been the past week. It’s not chipped at all, not even during my pole fitness classes! Which is great to be honest. When I wore Queen Hera all weekend it lasted throughout, and didn’t chip once. Again, I was really pleased about it. I haven’t had the chance to wear Athena Divine yet, but I’m going to wear it next weekend and see how the lasting time is, but if it’s anything like the other two shads, it’ll last ages.

So here are some swatches of the polishes themselves!

Aphrodite’s Love:

Queen Hera:

Two coats

Athena Divine:

One coat

Two coats

I have shown all the polishes with both one, and two coats, just so you can see the pigmentation!

My personal favourite has to be Athena Divine. Like the name, it is a divine colour and I’ve never seen anything like it. I can’t wait to rock this when I next have my holiday from work (FYI in a months time!) as well as when it’s mine and Dane’s anniversary in June, which will soon be here!

It’s a shame these are limited edition nail polishes, as they are truly stunning!

Will you be trying to pick these up in the M&S sale? Make sure to let me know in the comments!

Until next time, take care all and I hope you’re having a great weekend!

Spring Tag!

Image taken from weheartit.com

I love spring, it means the weather is beginning to get warmer and lighter nights are just around the corner. Since getting back from my holiday I’ve been lusting after warmer weather and not needing to layer up and wear my parka. I just want to wear my pleather jacket again, as well as my dresses and playsuits.

It’s officially spring today! So what better way to start off spring 2015 on my blog, than a spring tag!

1. Favorite spring nail polish?
I like my cream and pastel shades for spring, and I’ll definitely be wearing my Models Own Speckled polishes (post about them here). They remind me of Mini Eggs, which I love. As well as that I’ll probably be wearing my Illamasqua Raindrops (review here) polish as I love that shade for spring too.

2. What is your must-have lip color this spring?
I’m swaying towards pinks this spring, mostly nude pinks as I’ve recently got into wearing this shade and I really like it. As well as that I always like to rock a hot pink shade too. You can’t go wrong with pink! One I’ll probably wear a lot is Miley Cyrus’ Viva Glam lipstick (review here).

3. Show us your favorite spring dress!
I have so many favourites! I love my Dr. Martens dress (lookbook here), as well as my Miss Selfridge playsuit which I wore on holiday and will continue to wear in the spring and summer in the UK. Here are some pictures of both dresses…

4. What’s your favorite flower?
I don’t reallllly like flowers to be honest and I put this down to having hayfever… But if I had to choose one it would probably be sunflowers and lilies.

5. Favorite spring scarf/accessory?
Favourite spring scarf is definitely my white skull one that I bought three years ago (wow time flies!). It’s light and perfect to wear with dresses in the spring and summer.

6. What spring trend(s) are you most excited about this year? (Makeup, fashion or both!)
I am really liking the look of the 70’s trend, as I find the style that was out then was pretty nice and looked lovely. When it comes to make up and hair, I don’t really bother with those trends as I just wear my hair how I want to, and same with my lipstick too. Clothes wise, I am in desperate need of a make over! So I may go down the 70’s route!

Image taken from weheartit.com

7. Favorite spring candle?
I’ll burn anything throughout the year, but I think out of all my Yankee Candles the candles I’ll be burning most throughout spring will be Sweet Strawberry and Sweet Apple (post about them both here). They’re perfect for spring and smell delicious too. They’re simple too which is great for spring.

8. Favorite body spray/perfume for spring?
Ooo this is a tough one as I have so many I like to wear throughout the year. I think a few that I really like are Paul Smith Rose, DKNY MYNY, Marc Jacobs Oh Lola, Gucci Envy Me, and Lancome Miracle. They’re all light and floral and citrus scents which work lovely for spring.

9. What is spring like where you live?
Erm… It depends I suppose but usually wet! It rains a lot in the UK as it is, but it seems to rain more during spring than any other month. The thing I like about spring in the UK is how great it is to go into the countryside and awe over all the baby animals, as well as take in the sights. I especially love seeing cherry blossom trees.

Image taken from weheartit.com

10. What’s your favorite thing about spring?
Baby animals and cherry blossom trees for sure! They just both make me happy, especially when it comes to photography too. I also like how lighter nights come around and you can go out in the evenings with friends, family, partner, etc and just enjoy yourselves for longer. It’s also nice how it gets a little warmer out too.

11. Are you a spring cleaner?
Sometimes, not like hardcore but I would like to do a lot of spring cleaning this year. I’ve done a little already with my clothes, but I need to do some more. There’s probably loads of junk I could chuck away out of my room!

12. Any plans for spring break or an upcoming vacation?
We don’t have spring break in the UK, but we do get Easter break. I’m not at uni during this time for two weeks and throughout that time I’ll be working, as well as doing my uni work. I may also use it to do my spring cleaning and have a bit of me and blog time. I won’t have any holiday’s coming up, but I would love to go out for a day somewhere nice for my boyfriends birthday, which is just after the Easter holiday’s.

Image taken from weheartit.com

So that was the Spring Tag! I really enjoyed doing it, and I hope my readers have enjoyed reading it.

Who do I tag? EVERYONE! If you take part in this tag, please link me back to said post via a comment so I can come and read it.

Until next time, take care all and I hope you all have a good weekend.

January Favourites 2015

2015 and we’re already into February! I wasn’t expecting my holiday in January to go by so quickly either.

The majority of my favourites in January were products I used frequently whilst on holiday, or discovered whilst I was there.

I’ve decided to do something a little different this year, instead of talking about ten favourites each month, I’ll be talking about five instead. I just feel like it means I REALLY liked the items I talked about and therefore would have needed to think about hem more carefully.

So, here are my favourites!

Image taken from thebodyshop.co.uk

  • Diesel Loverdose EDP.

I had run out of this years ago and was gutted as it’s by far one of my favourite perfumes to wear. It’s a strong scent that lasts ages, and has a unique smell. So when my Dad offered to buy it me whilst on holiday as one of my birthday presents. He got me a massive 75ml bottle, so that’ll last me way longer than my 30ml bottle did. I wore this most of my holiday because of what a lovely summer scent it has, I only wore it in the evenings though but it sure did smell good and last ages. I’m so pleased to have this back in time for spring and summer.

  • The Body Shop Hand Cream in Coconut.

I just want to mention how I cannot find my hand cream anywhere in the house and this is why I’ve had to insert a picture here. I LOVE The Body Shop’s hand creams and alongside the Hemp hand cream this is one of my favourites. It has a gel like texture and isn’t as heavy as the Hemp one. Whilst I was on holiday my hands were the best they’ve been in a long time. I was using this hand cream throughout the holiday and it felt lovely on my skin. It’s one you can use in the warmer weather due to it not being heavy. It also had the lovely coconut smell, which is such a typical holiday scent! I’ve also tried the Strawberry hand cream but I didn’t like it as much as I like this one! I’ll definitely be repurchasing in the future.

  • Carmex Lip Balm in Strawberry.

I used this throughout my holiday and it kept my lips lovely and soft, as well as protected due to it containing SPF 15! I’d never liked this lip balm all that much before, but I really did enjoy using it whilst I was away. The precision on this is great and meant it was easy and quick to apply when on the go. I used this underneath my lip products too and it did a mighty good job of creating a moisturisng layer. I used up nearly all of the tube as well, I was really surprised! I’ll definitely be trying the Cherry flavour next!

  • OPI Nail Lacquer in Coca-Cola Red.

As I mentioned in my Holiday Haul my Mom picked me up a set of the Coca-Cola OPI polishes, and inside of course there was the classic Cocoa-Cola Red. I wore this on my toes for the entire two weeks of my holiday and it lasted so well! I didn’t wear a base coat (naughty!) and I didn’t wear a top coat (double naughty!) and it still lasted the whole time. It’s said to be the exact same shade as the Coca-Cola cans, which I think is pretty cool! This is a cream finish is gorgeous! I don’t think I’ll ever wear this on my nails as I don’t suit red really, but on my toes it made me feel lovely.

  • Revlon Just Bitten Balm Stain in Honey Douche

This was a balm stain I was given by my Mom as she didn’t like the shade that much and I didn’t think I would either, but it’s turned out that I love it! It’s a light pink shade and is a really nice nude shade at that. I’m not a fan of nude shades but this worked lovely as I built up my tan whilst I was on holiday and it also lasted ages on my lips. I never did try the Revlon lip crayons until I received this one, and it’s probably one of the best ones I’ve ever tried. I can see me picking up more in the future as they’re so great to quickly apply when on the move.

So those were my favourites for January! What did you use last month and enjoy? Let me know in the comments.

Until next time all, take care and I hope you had a good weekend.

Christmas Penguin Nail art Tutorial – Guest Post!

Christmas Penguin Nail Art Tutorial
Hi everyone! I’m Mali and I blog over at Maliberry Makeup.  Nat kindly invited me to write a few guest posts for her over the Christmas/Winter period and I’m kicking that off with a quick nail art tutorial!  I adore painting my nails and coming up with fun designs, and today I’ll be talking you through the steps to get fun little penguins on your nails.  I actually got the idea from these from some falsies I saw in Primark, although I tweaked the design slightly and added my own touches.  These are perfect for when you want festive nails!

You’ll need:
Black nail polish
White nail polish (the more coverage the better)
Gold nail polish (yellow/orange would also work)

I also used a plastic surface to blob nail polish onto – you can see some polish from a previous gradient manicure on mine!  You’ll also need a dotting tool which you can get quite cheaply on eBay or in places that sell nail supplies.  You don’t strictly need a dotting tool: you can use a toothpick, pinhead stuck in a pencil eraser or even a pencil lead to make dots!

Firstly, paint your nails black 🙂  Use a quick dry topcoat so you can move on to the next step sooner.  I actually laid down my black base the night before

Next, take your white polish and paint the belly of the penguin. Start the curve of the polish lower down than you normally would, making sure to leave a ring of black around.  I went a little too high with the white on my pinky finger but it’s okay!  Don’t worry if this isn’t perfect – it will give your penguins character

Next, blob out your white polish onto the plastic surface.  Use the dotting tool to create little white dots on the line of black above the white belly.  I always do some practice dots before attempting them on my nail!  Again, perfection really isn’t necessary here and your penguins will have their own personality if their eyes are a little wonky 😛

While you wait for the white dots to dry, go ahead and blob out some gold polish on the plastic surface.  Use the dotting tool to add feet at the base of the white belly.  Add a beak below the eyes – simply drag the dotting tool slightly to create a longer shape

The white dots should be dry enough to add pupils now!  As you might have guessed, you create these in exactly the same way: blob out black polish and grab your dotting tool!  My dotting tool is double ended and I used the smaller end to create these delicate black dots but using less pressure also gives a smaller dot if you don’t have different sized tools.  I tried to make the penguins’ pupils all look in different directions!
Now, you could absolutely stop here and seal your penguins in with topcoat.  However, I wanted to take it a step further.

You’ll need nail art lacquers in your choice of colours – I went for these red and green Color Club Nail Art Lacquers which come with an inbuilt striping brush.  You can also use normal polish and a separate striping brush!

I added a little scarf to the penguin on my ring finger by painting a base of green and then adding red stripes.  Very Christmassy!
Once your nails are completely dry, add a coat of topcoat for shine and to protect your hard work.  A matte topcoat would add a fun dimension too.  This entire manicure probably took me about 10 minutes and is very simple.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial 🙂 Thanks for having me Nat – be sure to let me know if any of you do try this for yourselves!
