May ’16 Favourites

It’s June and it’s also a hella exciting month! Oh God… Did I really just say hella?! Anyway! More to come as to why it is exciting in a couple of days time. 😛 It’s also mine and Dane’s three year anniversary on the 8th, yay! Of course, more into that next week.

However, it is once again time to share my favourites from the previous month, and boy was it hard to narrow it down to five! For once I actually struggled to decide, but eventually I found my favourites, which I’m sharing with you today.

  • Johnson’s Bedtime Baby Bath (link)

Okay I know this is meant to be for babies, but there is something to me that is really comforting about Johnson’s original baby bath, as well as the bedtime one. Every time I have used the bedtime one before bed I have slept really early, and had a great nights sleep! So it doesn’t just work for babies, obviously. It’s just going to a real treat to keep using, as whilst I love using Twilight bath bomb by Lush before bed, I find this is a nice cheaper version that won’t break the bank.

  • Bourjois Paris Happy Light Luminous Serum Primer (link)

I am loving the Bourjois primers at the moment, the luminous one being the one out of the two (the other is the matte one) that I’ve been using pretty much everyday throughout May. Sadly it’s not pretty much run out, which is the only thing I am disappointed about, because at £10.99 a pop it’s a lot to fork out every month. I did however get this and the matte one on the 2 for £14 offer in May. Well I wish I had bought more as these are amazing primers, dare I say better than Benefit POREfessional? They really do matte my skin and this one leaves me with a nice healthy looking glow. You don’t need a lot either to get a matte affect. I just love it, but I think I’ll be waiting until another offer comes up where I can feel okay with splashing out £11… Still, it’s cheaper than Benefit! 😛

  • Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick in shade Redrum (link) (review can be read here)

I love my Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks, that is a fact and everyone I know, knows this! I wear them quite often and every time I do I always get compliments. This was one of my recent purchases and oh my, do I love it. It might be my favourite shade to date and out of this and Scorpio, I find myself wearing this one more. It’s a gorgeous Marilyn Monroe red shade, perfect for any time of year. I get nothing but compliments on it, and since recently buying Jeffree Star’s white liquid lipstick shade Drug Lord, I’ve been mixing it with all my liquid lipstick to create my own shades! I recently tried it with Redrum and it looks just like Doll Parts! So pleased!

  • Lush Love and Light Hand Cream (link) (review can be read here)

Now this is a hand cream I have come to love when I first bought it, and then when the winter months came in and my hands were really bad, I grew to dislike it due to the fact it wasn’t nourishing my hands as much as I wanted and hoped that it would. However, I began using this again at the start of May and my hands looked beautiful and soft. I was so damn happy! I popped some in a little pot and started taking it with me to work to use after washing my hands. Towards the end of May though my hands have started to look rough again… I don’t know if it’s due to the hand cream not working as well as it did at first, or due to something else. Either way I am disappointed… I love what this hand cream did for my hands again, but I won’t be buying a pot ever again.

  • DKNY MY NY Eau de Parfum (link)

I can’t even remember how long I’ve owned this for now… Must be three or so years now, gosh I feel old! I remember to this day my mom buying me the huge 100ml bottle as it was on an offer, and I’m probably only just halfway through it now. This is a strong scent and one you don’t need a lot of. It isn’t the nicest DKNY scent I have had, but it isn’t awful either. I just use it for work these days, and I get NOTHING but compliments on it! Which is always a good thing. The only thing I dislike about it is how huge the bottle is. It JUST about fits in my handbag, which isn’t exactly huge. It’s a lovely scent though, and perfect for the summer months that are looming.

So those were my five favourite beauty products this month!

What did you enjoy using throughout May? Make sure to let me know in the comments.

Until next time take care all, and I hope everyone is having a good week so far.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick in Redrum – Review

If I wasn’t bad enough last week buying Scorpio, I bought Redrum too! But after pining and lusting after it for so long, how could I not finally pick it up?! This is one of the first shades Jeffree Star brought out, and one I wanted from the very start. I won’t lie, I was too anxious to order from the official website at the time of these coming out, otherwise I would have ordered the three part bundle with Redrum, Prom Night, and I’m Royalty. Alas, no time like the present as I finally own Redrum, and boy was I excited to write this review for you all today!

These are fast becoming my favourite beauty brand at the moment, yes they’re even shoving MAC Cosmetics away. They’re just the best liquid lipsticks I have tried, and I want to own them all.

Instead of ordering from Cocktail Cosmetics like I usually do, I bought these from the official Jeffree Star Cosmetics website. My reasons being that I didn’t want to worry I would miss out on Scorpio and Redrum is I waited and went through Cocktail Cosmetics. I’ve already reviewed Scorpio which you can read here.

Redrum is a gorgeous glam red colour, and very vintage looking. It’s described as, “The perfect red: this matte cool toned red looks amazing on any skin tone.” I love wearing the colour red, it’s just a perfect colour that suits anyone!

First thing I want to talk about is how long delivery took from America, and oh boy did it take a while! I ordered the two shades the day that Scorpio came out, and it took three weeks for them to arrive to me! What was more annoying was I had to pay £13.00 import fees as well. That’s the price of one from Cocktail Cosmetics! Which was really annoying… I understand that I think a week was held up due to the Jeffree Star Cosmetics factory getting broken into. My friend Claire and a few other UK bloggers received their purchases nearly a week before I got mine, which really sucked! Me and Claire ordered minutes apart from one another, which is what was the most annoying part. I was devastated as I wanted to try my products on my day off work. So you can only imagine how on the edge of my seat I was to try these bad boys out?! I got them on my weekend off mind, which wasn’t so bad. It just made me incredibly anxious that my items were lost.

Finally they arrived, and were totally worth the wait! The first one I had a play with was Scorpio, chanting “be still my beating heart!” as I tried it on, which was slowly followed by Redrum. For nearly two years I have wanted this gorgeous red in my collection, and now I finally have it!

Like the majority of Jeffree Star Comestics, Redrum comes in the signature pink box and of course is in the same tube as all the liquid lipsticks come in. The applicator is a doe foot and is really fluffy, which means it picks up more product, and therefore leaves more product behind on the lips. I did find however that this doe foot was a bit different than usual and had a distinctive scoop type shape to it. I imagine this is for grabbing more product, and also because the shape of the applicator fits snug onto the lips when applying the product. The product itself doesn’t have a scent to it, which is still a shame. Even though Jeffree Star is bringing some of his newer shades out with scents! WOOP! I like having a light scent to my lip products, but at the same time due to what kind of lip product this is, I’m still pretty pleased this is scentless.

Like the other velour liquid lipsticks I own, Redrum is beautifully pigmented, which by now is no surprise to me, due to the high quality of these liquid lipsticks. This was one of the first shades that Jeffree Star came out with, and I’ve seen it all over Instagram, and on beauty bloggers websites and YouTube channel for ages, so I KNEW I wanted it. I know what I was in store for when I swatched this, a red lipstick, so perfect that Marilyn Monroe herself would have worn this. Like all the liquid lipsticks this is really pigmented and therefore a little bit goes a long way. This isn’t do bad to apply without a lip liner, but I definitely prefer to use one to make sure I get a perfect cupid’s bow!

From L-R: Masochist, Hoe Hoe Hoe, Unicorn Blood, Scorpio, and Redrum.

From Top to bottom: Masochist, Hoe Hoe Hoe, Unicorn Blood, Scorpio, and Redrum.

I did wonder if the formula of this one would be different from Masochist (you can read my review of that here), and Hoe Hoe Hoe (you can read my review of that here) and to be honest it is extremely different! I found the formula was more watery/liquidy than the ones mentioned, but I actually liked this as it meant I didn’t need to use as much as I find I sometimes have to with Masochist due to it being a little thicker. I recently found out that Hoe Hoe Hoe has a thick formula due to the ingredients used to give it that shimmer/glitter affect inside. I also discovered that pretty much all the liquid lipstick shades are like this, so I’m no longer going to be surprised by the consistency of the formula.

Since Masochist was my first Jeffree Star shade and it stains your lips, I also worry that any shade I buy now will do the same thing. Alas though Redrum doesn’t stain, which I was really happy about. I don’t think I’ll be worrying about staining occurring anymore in the future… Yay!

As I mentioned before the first time I wore this was the day after I got it when I had to pop to the shops for a few things. I have since then worn it for work and everyone has complimented it, and said how pretty it looked. I know a couple of the girls I work with love and want Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks, so I’m forever talking to them about the shades. You can’t go wrong with a red shade, especially for work.

Like all liquid lipsticks this will get worn away if you are in contact with any food (or possibly drinks) that contain oil. This lasts throughout my shift at work too, only budging on my lunch break when I grab something to eat, which of course is perfect! Re-applying this is really easy as well. You can just apply it to the parts of your  lips where needed, or even all over.

I of course used the “kiss” and “finger” test to show off that this product doesn’t come off when in contact with anything, and everyone I have shown it to has been impressed, especially my boyfriend who hates being covered in lip shapes kisses.

I have in the past found these hard to remove and have had to scrub away at my lips to remove the shade, only Masochist to be honest. I apply an oil based remover to a cotton pad and then apply it to the lips and wipe away when I feel the oil has soaked up the lipstick. Even for such a dark shade it comes off really easily, which I really do love.

As I always do, I show off my mug wearing said lip colour… By the way I attempted a jokey Marilyn Monroe look. 😛

Overall what do I think about Redrum? It was so worth the wait! I couldn’t wait to get this after wanting it for so long, but I did worry it would look different on me than it does online in pictures, and on other people. There’s not really anything unique about this shade as it is your classic red shade, which you can never go wrong with! I love wearing a red lip, and whilst I do have some staples and favourites in my make up collection, I can see this one becoming a fast favourite to reach for. I’ll wear this all year around, especially over the summer in the evenings for nights out.

This shade sold out surprisingly quickly considering it’s one of the first shades that Jeffree Star brought out. At the time of writing this post (12th May) it is currently sold out, both from the Jeffree Star website, however it is still available on Cocktail Cosmetics website.

When in stock you can buy this from Jeffree Star Cosmetics for $18.00, or Cocktail Cosmetics for £14.00.

I usually write on every Jeffree Star review I write three shades that I am lusting after, however this time I’m going to mention something else I’m after. A Jeffree Star Velour Lip Scrub in Strawberry Gum. “Use our delicious sugar based lip scrub to prep your lips before applying any liquid lipstick. Take a scoop out and rub your mouth in circular motions. Lick away excess (yes, it’s edible!) or wipe off with a tissue.” I got to give this a sniff when I recently visited the Cocktail Cosmetics store and I fell in love. I would have bought one there and then, but I’ll save it for next time. 😛

What shades are you after, or what shades do you own? Any you recommend? Make sure to let me know in the comments!

Until next time, take care all and have a great week!

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick in Masochist – Review

I have never been so excited to get my hands on a lipstick since… Well… Since never I don’t think! As my regular readers will know, I love lipstick. It is the only form of make up I wear so it’s pretty important to me for my lips to look good, as well as the colour to stay in place as long as possible.

Jeffree Star has been around for years, and emerged back way before Facebook when MySpace was the number one social media website. I’ve been a fan of him for as long as I can remember, so when I heard about him working on his own liquid lipstick range, I got excited. Too excited.

His liquid lipsticks first came out nearly a year ago now (if I remember right they came out on Black Friday..?) and I’ve been lusting after them ever since, but never picking one up until recently. I was torn between which shade(s) to buy, and I said to myself that I wouldn’t buy one until my heart was set on a certain shade, which happened recently when Masochist was announced.

Masochist is a gorgeous dark raspberry pink shade, described as “The color of crushed berries on ice. This dark pink matte lipstick is cool toned and extremely addictive.” which was right up my street. I love dark shades, especially dark pink and with autumn now here, and winter just around the corner this is my ideal shade for those seasons.

So with much debate and my bank account screaming at me to leave it alone, I caved in and ordered. However, I didn’t order directly from Jeffree Star Cosmetics, but through a UK seller called Cocktail Cosmetics. They’re based in the midlands (which of course is where I’m from) which is handy for if I ever want to pop into their store for a look at the shades.

Masochist sold out really quickly so I had to wait until they got some more stock in for me to order it, which I ordered a few weeks ago and have had the same amount of time. I wanted to ensure I tried and tested this out as much as possible so I could give you guys an honest and thorough review.

I know so many people who are pining after the liquid lipsticks and I can safely tell you, they are worth every penny and more!

Masochist comes in the signature pink box and of course is in the same tube as all the liquid lipsticks come in. The applicator is a doe foot and I expected it to be like the usual soft and bog standard ones you get in most lip glosses, however this doe foot is really fluffy! Which means it picks up more product, and therefore leaves more product behind on the lips. The product itself doesn’t have a scent to it, which I am a mixture of sad and happy about. I like having a light scent to my lip products, but at the same time due to what kind of lip product this is, I’m pretty pleased it is scentless.

This is super pigmented. I knew it would be, but it’s different seeing it be pigmented in videos and pictures than it is in the actual flesh. I swatched this on the back of my hand and was gobsmacked by how gorgeous it was, and how little I needed to achieve such a bold shade. I couldn’t wait to try this on my lips so I ran to my bathroom mirror and applied. The doe foot applicator worked well to line my lips, but I find a lip liner is better (I’ll go into more detail about this in a moment) as it means you gain a more precise line and edge. You don’t need a lot of this to achieve a gorgeous finish.

I wore this around the house and I found I encountered a few issues with it, which I thought was just because I wasn’t used to the product, but since then I had the same issue again whilst out. I found when I was eating a sandwich whilst wearing this product, where I had bitten into the sandwich there was a round circle of pink left behind on it… Which was a little off putting. As I said this happened again when I was out with my boyfriend for lunch. I guess there is nothing that can be done with that. This being said, it didn’t move from my lips or appear like it had come off which is good!

I’ve also worn this throughout a six hour shift at work, and from the time I applied, to the moment I came home it didn’t budge. My mom was amazed by this, and asked me to apply some on her. Her lips are a lot thinner than mine and I didn’t have a lip liner to hand to line her lips before applying the product, so I just had to wing it. It turned out great and she loved how her lips looked. She now wants one herself!

Re-applying this really easy too. You can just apply it to the parts of your  lips where needed, or even all over. I found a second coat caused the shade to look darker, which is good to know as I wasn’t sure if you could use more than one coat for this product.

I of course used the “kiss” and “finger” test to show off that this product doesn’t come off when in contact with anything, and everyone I have shown it to has been impressed, especially my boyfriend who hates being covered in lip shapes kisses.

Another problem (I say problem but it isn’t) I found with this was how awkward, painful, and hard it can be to remove. As soon as I get home I like to take off my lipstick so I can just slather lip balm all over my lips, but with this I find it is a little more challenging. At first I tried everything from Simple make up remover, baby wipes, lip balm (I found a tutorial on YouTube about this), and even a cleansing balm, but none of them worked! I asked my mom for suggestions, but even she was stumped on ideas.

Then I remembered that the product itself states, “avoid food with oil” so I thought, “Hey I wonder if an oil based make up remover would work?” so I turned to my mom again and asked her if she had any of these that I could try. So I did, and guess what? It worked!

Overall I am so impressed with this and I knew that everyone was raving about it, and there was a good reason why. I’ve tried liquid lipsticks in the past and not one of them compared to this bad boy. What I love the most about these is how many different shades you can pick up, and I’m already eyeing up another one I can get for when I go on holiday. I’ve also converted my mom, who also has her eye on some more shades that she would like to own and try.

I paid £13.00 for Masochist, with £3.50 postage, which I didn’t mind as it arrived super quick. I definitely recommend Cocktail Cosmetics for Jeffree Star Cosmetics, and so does the man himself, who loves them and has said it on Twitter. The price has since gone up since then by a £1, so now they retail for £14.00.

My current 3 shades I am lusting after now are Abused (This purpled toned navy blue is one of a kind. Matte. Bold. Sultry. We ALL abuse something. Whether it’s power, love, money or beauty… Just don’t let it control you.), Redrum (The perfect red: this matte cool toned red looks amazing on any skin tone.), and Hoe Hoe Hoe (The fierce red is gorgeous, deep toned and has hints of metallic red and purple through out.) which is out for Christmas this year and I already own it!

What shades are you after, or what shades do you own? Any you recommend? Make sure to let me know in the comments!

Until next time all, take care and I hope all of my readers are well.
